ladichatterlee: those are cute, silly pictures and all, but seriously....as if it's not bad enough that you can actually kill a beautiful wild animal, but actually laugh about it? I guess that's the kind of mind it takes to be able to do that in the first place. I guess you'd have to laugh about it because, if you faced the reality of the situation, it might not be quite as funny to you anymore. I don't know.

ladichatterlee: Zimperlich? LOL..whatever.

My attitude is that I think it's cruel to kill animals. And even more cruel to laugh and joke and make fun of people about it. It's got to be some kind of mental disorder that allows people to be that cruel and to make such inappropriate "jokes" out of it. I think it's done more so to appease one's sense of guilt, to brush it off, as though it's no big deal.

ladichatterlee: And I'll share something with you: if you can raise a gun and blast a hole in an animal and watch it lay there and bleed to death and gasp for its last breath, you have anything BUT love for animals.

Too bad for that one deer you think is deserving of the death penalty, huh? Geez. What luck.

Still doesn't answer my question, nor does it justify, not only why those of you who hunt do so, but especially why, judging from some of the comments and pictures shown here, that you all think it's funny to kill animals.

Just looked at this thread as I do not hunt & doubt I ever could, however I think it is wrong to assume that because one hunts one cannot also show a love of animals. In fact one may even build up a rapore with their prey over the years, (Deer Hunter, great film).

In the UK there is regular culling of deers in national parks as well as private game keepers. This is mainly due to there being no large natural predators here and I believe it is the lame, sick or old that are killed to keep numbers in check.

Another major factor is with re-newable energy, and no doubt farmers are utilising manure in larger numbers than they once did and is certainly far better than all the pestacides used over the decades. It also makes good business for both supplier & distributer.

I do prefer that people hunt for survival than sport, but they may have problems of controlling numbers also, and it makes logical sense to get people willing to pay to hunt them rather than becoming another tax burden.

As for humour, everyone is different and people will both like/dislike what is here but the same can be said of any other subject discussed. It depends on a persons morals & the society they are used to being in, though always good to use one's common sense..
beer
Also, for those in UK Ray Mears has a new series on BBC2, Northern Wilderness - Canada:
