That people disdain the color of their own skin is sad and is undeniably a result of societal bias. Skin color is nature's way of enabling people to survive in the climate from which they (or their families or even their distant relatives) originate.
Skin color is just skin color. Nothing more; nothing less.
True. Not so simple to keep those who we know do not wish to harm us from...harming us. That is because there are those who we know instinctively do not wish to harm us even though eventually they may. Or do. How do we guard against those who unintentionally harm us?
It's true; our thinking can become a trap of our own making. We probably don't even realize we are doing it. Also, it's like a bad habit that is hard to break.
It's natural to compare ourselves to others; especially without realizing we are doing it. So this is an excellent reminder that we all have our own gifts, some of which others do not have. If we concentrate on strengthening our weak areas (easier said than done!) and appreciating our own God given strengths, then we can become our best selves.
It looks like you are ready for love, but are you ready to love? Sounds like you may need to do some healing first. I say that because you seem to be blaming the x's girlfriend for the failed relationship between you and the x. I know it's hard to face up, but she's not the problem.
In any case, he is your x...your past; not your present. Let him go. Focus on how you can best heal from the past and move ahead with your life. I recommend you read a book called "Boundaries in Dating". It's excellent and may help you in your journey to heal and to move on to better things.
A great relationship is like a safe haven, where you are able to be yourself while at the same time striving to be the best you that you can be. You want to be better because you want that for the other person...and they want to be better for you.
