Candy! That's exactly what happened to me!!! It lasted for quite awhile until the day he ate something that didn't agree with him,became very bloated and eventually blew up!
I wouldn't feel comfortable sitting in a bar or pub all night even if I was with someone. Too boring! But I have been in many pubs in Europe by myself and on a few occasions have had to tell someone to take a flying leap, but I usually leave before things start to get raucous.
