Aa - Volvo are definitely the luxury option, I've been looking at Ford and Fiat coachbuilds and conversions, and one difference between us and the US, they're all manual, although I know automatics are often available. Once I have safely reached Spain I will be looking to sell the motorhome to free up capital again so I'm going with the makes that are more popular there.
Although I say I'm going to sell it - I've been looking at campsites en route. They are - incredible. Rolling acres of grassland, or overlooking the sea or lakes or stuff. They have bakeries, for fresh morning rolls, and takeaways (take outs, I think you'd call that) and restaurants - pools. All the obvious services.
The photographs would make you feel woozy I may never live in a house again!
KN I suspect I may be roaring into my second childhood but I spent my entire life being conventional, doing what parents and family and friends and those around me expected me to do.
And now I can see a time will come when I will have to slow down, sit down, watch the world going past instead of being part of the parade. It could be a year. It could be another 20 years. Some people are 20 going on 50 and some young souls are 70 going on 30. I suspect I will be 80 going on 10
To use this blog as an example - if I was a commercial vehicle I'd be taking myself off regular service and becoming a motorhome.
A good motorhome? Who the hell knows? But the best I can be.
KN I would be GREEN with envy if not for those 3 kids
Nope, I'm green full stop. but happy for you. And Mimi. And anyone else who has their life ticking over like a well-tuned engine and doesn't hide the fact
Aa, is turbo bad? the one I've got my eye on is 2.2 turbo diesel. High mileage but yup, cambelt recently replaced, new tyres, and (again thanks to that vehicle website) I can see exactly what work was done to get it through the annual roadworthy cerficate, and it looks like brakes and other twiddly bits have been brought up to speed.
What I really need is a fundi on hand for this trip. I'm a top-up-the-oil-and-water, check-the-tyres, leave everything else to the experts, kinda driver.
Prof - another one who absolutely sees the similarities may our futures provide beautifully maintained classic automobiles rather than leaky old skedonks on bent axles.
Hmm, skedonks is a Saffer word - what's the equivalent in other cultures? Jalopies, I think, is American - rattletraps is fairly general -
Cgot, and the DVLA can fine you bigly if you have lied on any of your particulars
It's a new option on their website and some sellers haven't noticed got up to speed yet - declaring the wrong mileage, the wrong year, and even saying their vehicles are in daily use when they are in fact registered as being up on bricks, to escape paying annual road tax!
Would earn CS a fortune if they set up a registration website which HAD to be accurate
Mimi there's a lot to be said for both points of view but there's no denying automatic shift, if you have a long run ahead, is easier. No constant adjustments and attention needed. Just relax, sit back and enjoy the drive.
Hey, Back, I think I might have found The One, we have a meet on Monday and this little cutie is one I could drive myself. Co-drivers could still apply and hey, maybe time tp plan a meet with a difference - all the bikers arriving on their mighty machines (Kal on that scary high perch ) and the truckers led by Nam and then a beach party on the Costa Tropica
Are you bantering, interacting and backstabbing (merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream) on other blogs? Or just waiting to be entertained ....
Comments beget comments. Simple CS fact. The more you talk, the more you shall be talked with.
And yes some will ignore, some will lash out, some will be defensive and some, there's no point going on their blogs because of all of the above, but - some will chat
Tru, looking for a mini motorhome that can manage a 2000 mile drive, that's pretty much it. Does he ever get motorhomes? Would be FAB if you'd ask, if he does!
Budget scary low but I'm not expecting miracles. MoT and reliable for up to 2000 miles, no matter how much it snorts and struggles on the hills, and I would be a very happy bunny indeed.
Yup I'd have a vehicle that's a little too big than a little too small. Although talk to me again when I have to push it two miles to the nearest garage
Age and mileage, please
Free - oh aye, the capacity of the average single for storing baggage is stupendousI'll listen for those weird noises and my computer is making some now, time to log out
