RE: What do you believe in ?

Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) is considered by many to be the "Prince of Preachers" during the time when the entire world was making a drift away from God in favor of science. Many Christians vehemently opposed science. Spurgeon wrote in his book Lectures To My Students that everything in creation is from God, and in knowing it, we can learn more of him. Spurgeon made it a point to read 6 books every week in addition to his regular readings of the Bible. He did not limit his knowledege to what he thought other Christians would approve, he wanted to learn about everything. This policy has always impressed me, and I have tried to apply it in my own life.

I do believe that humans are made in God form. Furthermore, I do not think that is limited to what we are shaped like. Later in the book of Genesis 11:6 God says of mankind "...and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them." We have innate abilities as Godlike animals that many of us are unconscious to. I don't believe that our maker is "beyond our imaginations or the concepts of mind", but rather these imaginations, and concepts already exist within us, and we don't even realize it.

RE: What do you believe in ?

I believe in God, and/or a singular source energy. In religious expression that seeks to define the nature of God I have found no other that I favor more than the Judeo/Christian concept I have been taught from a young age. Although, there is no particular denomination that I strongly adhere to. I think that the name for God that is given by Moses, and is translated in English as I Am, is very suitible description.

In the book of Genisis it is said that humans were created in the image of God. I believe that this concept, by some convulvous twist of nature has somehow been reversed to where our minds concieve God in our image. I believe that this misunderstanding, is the core of what is often referred to as sin. I believe that God breathed life into dust to form us, but that "breath" as a word or concept is used for lack of a better term, and might limit the truth of how this actually takes place. I believe that as God is a creative force, that we being in the image of God are co-creators with Him in all things that are experienced in the physical world.

I'll sum up before I get to far down the rabbit hole. There are some that believe that nothing that man does makes a difference, and that everything is completely according to the will of God. Others think that the fate of the world is completely in the hands of Humanity.

I agree with both sides of the debate. I love the confounding paradox of the truth. It is the God part of the universe that is the ultimate power, yet God acts through the mind and actions of every human in his creation. When we as humans become aware of the spiritual basis of the mind, we become even more creative in our ability to help ourselves, each other, and God to make life on Earth as it is in Heaven.

The way we see the world affects the way we respond to it. The way we respond to it affects the world itself. God wants us to become more conscious and aware of this fact so that we can asume more responsibility in our role as co-creators with Him. We are given the freedom, and responsibility to create our lives as we choose.

It's a huge Cosmic Burger King, and we can have it our way. What do you choose? Drink that in, and let it mix with everything you already know and believe about prayer, life, will, etc.

RE: No need to explain. However,

You should probably sort the cans by type e.g. vegatables, soups...then aggange them according to brands, then alphabetize the individual subsets.

That's the best way to do it IMO

Don't forget to face them up to the front of the shelves, and try to align any focal point on the labels...this will give your cupboards a very full and symmetrical look.

RE: charlie

How do you know it's someone's name?

Perhaps it is an acronym that she has devised as a mnemonic device to help remember her shopping list.

Then she just coincidentally said hello to somone named Charlie, sort of like a side effect of the fluid thinking minds, the one thing reminded her of the other in addition to what to buy at the store.

RE: SO, ANY CRUSHES LATELY, PEOPLE?

I was driving, and I hit a huge bump on the Interstate. I bounced up and hit my head on the ceiling of the truck, and when I landed back in the seat it crushed my balls.

OWIE!

RE: IS THIS A DISEASE OR IS IT GENETIC?

It certainly sheds some light on the issues, but the question arises....Where is the mind? Is it located inside the brain? Quantum Theorists would have us believe, rather convincingly I might add, that the brain, along with the rest of our physical make up is a projection of our mind which actually exists in another dimensionconfused

Yeah, I know! I said your mind exists in another dimension, and your brain, along with the rest of your body is a physical image of the spiritual you.confused Your body, including the brain, is a bio-suit controlled remotely by your mind from another dimension. Weird huh?

danceYou & Me Baby ain't nothing but Mammals, so let's do it like they do on The Discovery Channeldance

RE: On the problem of freewill.

It is a mystery, wrapped up in a riddle, rolled up in a conundrum, dipped in embalming fluid, then puffed and passed by a bunch of enigma junkies.

There is always going to be a grey area, yet we seem determined to see everything as either black or white. Freedom and Social Order exist on a continuum. We all want to be free, yet at the same time almost no one truly condones absolute freedom. The freedom for my fist to go where I choose ends at the tip of your nose I'm sure. We cannot have people free to do whatever they wish, given the depravity of our nature that is absurd. Yet, neither do we truly desire restraint. What we desire is balance, and that is why we write laws.

It is an attempt to define the balance in writing. Your freedom goes this far, my restraint will go this far. And still the problem remains unresolved. Someone will find a way to manipulate, or legislate for personal gain. The balance that we seek to find becomes lost in the distorted muddles of the law.

This balance can only be found within. We are only free to do as nature dictates. Some refuse to accept it, but the natural state of humans in the physical world is perverse. We seek only to serve our own self interests. Therefore, religion enters to further muddle the quagmire. Religion, seeks to define the balance in spiritual terms.

Sadly, religion fails. This is because it too has been infiltrated by the depravity of man. Someone inevitably seeks personal gain through the exclusion of all spiritual definitions that differ from their own. In the end even our most pious acts of charity, and goodwill are tainted by a self serving desire for recognition. See how good I am? See how spiritual I am? You should all try to be more like me. The next step is to hide the desire for recognition. No, no, please I cannot accept your praise, because I am too humble No one is fooled by humility that recognizes itself.

Furthermore, despite my babblings, and supposed insights, I have brought us no further to the truth. The truth is, I really care more for my freedom than yours. Until I learn to see past what separates us, and recognize that we are not separate, I will continue in this pattern. I am only free to do as my nature dictates. I do believe in freedom of the will, I have no other choice.

RE: IS THIS A DISEASE OR IS IT GENETIC?

It is pretty darn interesting. Another book I was reading on the subject, mentioned an experiment that was done using dogs. They wired a dog up somehow, to electronically stimulate the brain to release a certain neuropeptide. The dog was taught that a certain pedal in its kennel would trigger the release of the neuropeptide. Eventually the dog chose the neuropeptide over chew toys, food, and even sleep, and would continuously trigger its release until the animal finally collapsed from exhaustion.

Often we humans become so caught up in repetetive emotional patterns, like that we hate our jobs, but won't quit even though the job doesn't serve us. We keep entering the same types of relationships over and over again, even though they don't serve us. We become trapped in a cycle of stimulus reaction, we are addicted to drama, and have little more ability to make a choice than the dog did, despite our larger frontal lobe.

RE: This made me smile the other day....

It makes me smile too, but probably for a different reason.

I believe in Free Will.....I have no choice.

RE: Pre-arranged marriages

I heard my Dad say that he thinks we should return to the practice, he didn't really elaborate.

I haven't put much thought into it, I don't know any couples, and their children that well I suppose. Now you've got me curious.

I did make the decision to settle in Texas. my Dad was Air Force, and we moved alot. I never really had any life-long freindships. I have met married couples that have known each other since kindergarden, and was always secretly jealous of that. I want my daughter to have that opportunity, to develop those kinds of relationships. I guess that's as close as I've come so far to arranging anything for her. I suppose when she is a teen I might have to arrange some break-ups for her. dunno

RE: if we are supposed to be all equal as humans

One of my brothers dated a gorgeous black girl for about three month. It's not a popular decision from either perspective, particularly in the Southern U.S. Although admittedly, I feel like it is slowly becoming more acceptable compared to past times.

I met, and almost had a long term relationship with a nice black girl when I was about 19. She asked me what my parents would think about me dating a black girl, I was honest, I told her they probably wouldn't be thrilled about it. She dumped me.

RE: if we are supposed to be all equal as humans

Lucky you live in Finland.
