RE: Bogus Tax Company

So, first point out the errors, give them a chance to rectify, if that fails, then take it to a higher authority, all Tax/accountancy companies (In the UK and I think also in Canada) have to abide by set in stone rules.

RE: In defence of religion

I have yet to see a school run by Catholics that doesn't promote their own religion, in a hospital, I have no experience, but doubt they are doing it out of kindness, every religion uses whatever means to convert those around them to their faith, by allowing other faiths to work with them it just makes them look better, but the underlying trend is still there. IMO

RE: Bogus Tax Company

If you believe they may made a mistake in your tax details, I guess you should allow them to make any corrections needed, but, if they refuse or say the forms are correct, then take to another accountancy firm, if it is proved they have "cocked them up" (Tech term), then refer the original "Franchise" to the ombudsman, ombudsman have saved me a fortune in poor accountancy in the past.wine

RE: In defence of religion

The only real faith (IMO) is in oneself, I have total belief in me, I know that wherever I am ant any time of my life, the only person I can truly depend on is me, maybe that is a form of faith, not sure, but hey it works for megrin

RE: In defence of religion

I am, believe me, only thing that comes close, is that for some, who have a deep faith, it can sometimes help them overcome their problems, but, then again, I have no faith and have always overcome my lifes problems one way or anothercheers

RE: Bogus Tax Company

Take all the documents to an ombudsman, then claim for any mistakes that have cost you more than due, if you have been taxed more than is actually required, there are procedure to follow to reclaim that extra amount paid.

RE: Towel Day

There is no doubt in my mind that this book will become a classic, with the same status afforded to Adams as Hemingway, Twain, et al. Such a huge loss when he passed awaysad flower

RE: Homeland

Because Being a Jew is not being a religion but a race of people rather like germans are a race, Jews follow the religion of Judaism which is similar to the majority of germans following christianity.

RE: do you think we should respect older people just because they're older?

I was brought up to show respect to everyone and everything, but, that respect can be easily lost, by disrespectful actions or words, and not so easily regained.wine

RE: Russian brides

Best advice so farthumbs up

First treat this as a holiday, and have a very open mind as to what happens.
Second, Read up about visa entry to the UK, I had a wonderful relationship with a Ukrainian lady, visited many times, even shared a holiday together in Turkey, but after 3 attempts and hundreds of pounds wasted the UK immigration refused her entry to the UK.

Russia is a great country, with a fascinating history, but they is a huge disparity between the haves and have nots, just be aware that while she may not be a scammer, there could be a hidden agenda. You live in London, hundreds of Russians live there, go to the Russian embassy and ask them to check out this woman, and at the same time you may get lucky with someone already living nearby. My youngest son has just been informed his fee per year at Loughborough University will be £9000 plus books, food and accommodation, which is a further 2-3 thousand, and he is doing a fairly basic degree course to become a PE teacher.

RE: Where is the capital of Japan?

I am not sure I understand what you mean by "Lots of people have a misunderstanding about Japan's research Whaling" who misunderstands what?? Japan have found a lucrative loophole in the fishing quotas by issuing research licenses for hunting and killing whales, yet none of the data collected is of any use worldwide, but the meat and oil is sold at a handsome profit. Where is the confusion??dunno
Less than 4% of Japanese eat whale meat, but does not mean that the Japanese have stopped hunting them.

RE: Israeli Heroes

Out of the thousands of yearly graduating students, maybe the 100 students you mention are Arab rather than Jewish, as the military service applies to them as well, in fact they have to sign an agreement to this fact before entering university, so actually they have broken their contract yet benefited from superior education.dunno

RE: BREAKING NEWS: Israel's Attack on Humanitarian Ship to Gaza.

From the Canadian the Western Standard,

Quote "Chossudovsky was listed as one of Canada's nuttiest professors "whose absurdity stands head and shoulders above their colleagues."
Specifically, the op-ed criticized GlobalResearch.ca as "anti-U.S. and anti-globalization" and Chussodovsky's "wild-eyed conspiracy theories." An article in Jewish Tribune has also criticized GlobalResearch.ca as "rife with anti-Jewish conspiracy theory and Holocaust denial." The same article also reported that B'nai Brith Canada wrote a letter to the University of Ottawa asking for the university "to conduct its own investigation of this propagandist site."

Also "Chossudovsky claims that the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is actually an operational weapon of mass destruction, with the power to alter the weather, disrupt regional electrical power systems, and modify the Earth's magnetic field, as well as potentially trigger earthquakes and affect people's health. He has also claimed that the invasion of Afghanistan had long been planned by the United States and NATO, with the 9/11 attacks an excuse to justify the war.

So better believe what he says or the bogey man will get you

RE: The English Language According to Gallagher

I bow to your superior experiencetip hat I can only go by my own experience, based on teaching in Russia, Ukraine, Italy and China, and my working in several other continents around the world, I happen to agree with my English professor in the UK, who has shown, that by and large, the greatest pieces of literature have been written in English, in his and my view, because of the rich tapestry embroidered by the English language. I am not saying great literature is only written in English, just the majority.
I guess we must agree to disagreewine
