RE: Have you ever,...

Perhaps a form of jealousy, by that I mean, after any breakup there will be sadness, at least for one of the partners. If one then enters a new relationship, the other could be wondering why he/she should be happy when they are still sad.

RE: Whats The Meaning Of Life ?

Fantastic books, use them with my students all the time, such a sad loss when Adams died

RE: No soul, no love? I am in trouble

Maybe it's just an excuse they use because they don't like your character?dunno hmmm giggle

RE: Another Beheading

Didn't know that, but the confusion at that time would have allowed his strongest supporters to say pretty much anything and get away with it.

Isee his shrine has now been dismantled, and the "remains" put in an unmarked grave, all a bit late really.

RE: Do you think we all have a fascination with the dark side of life.

Take a village, any village, then lets say the village vicar has invented a new and fast way to learn a new language, now lets say the same vicar was caught in a compromising position with the wife of the butcher, which news will be headlines in the local paper?

There is the answer to your question

Bad news travels faster than light, good news is like snail mail in comparison.

And as the media gets stronger, so this idea becomes a part of normal life

RE: Who do you think was the most inspirational parson of the 20 th centruaty.

Nit picking, but he made the greatest contribution in the 21st century in reality.
In the 20th Century I would put forward Martin Luther King, closely followed by Einstein and Mr W Churchill, but think everyone would have their own specific choices, I'm sure many would look favourably on Mother Teresa and Gandhi but....................

RE: Relocating to Bulgaria?

As I keep telling my students, learn from your mistakes, don't cry over them, use them to make a better plan for the next attempt.cheers

RE: Relocating to Bulgaria?

I travelled extensively in europe including the eastern countries, I found them fascinating, and really not as expected, especially Poland and Hungary, Bulgaria was beautiful, and Sofia very very interesting with lovely people, they seemed so happy to chat with a foreigner and very proud of their history. But guess we all see things differently!!

RE: Relocating to Bulgaria?

I learnt the hard way, at the tender age of 21 in my gap year, when stranded in Egypt, going hat in hand to my father to get home humiliated me completely,
Now I have a carry bag with change of clothes and wash kit, certified copies of all important documents, and my emergency account.

Even after nearly 6 years in China, I still keep everything in place, just in case. No one can tell what's round the corner, but at least I can return to Blighty and start over.

I will do the same when I retire to my home in the Philippines,, just in case!!!!!!!

RE: Relocating to Bulgaria?

There are still places in the UK where they don't lock the doors, but agree not as much as 50 years ago, but don't be fooled into thinking it will be a bed of roses in Bulgaria, so many people go to european places for a holiday, think this is a perfect place lets move here, only to find they have swapped typical UK problems for typical (insert country name) problems, only now, they have the added problem of a language barrier, they don't understand the bureaucracy, they don't have a clue how to get around local hiccups.
Take Spain, thousands of Brits emigrated there, but how many stayed?? Majority found the "Holiday" soon became monotony, those who researched, and made sure they had a "life" remain.

Move with your eyes wide open

RE: Relocating to Bulgaria?

Not sure if this is a wind up but on the off chance its genuine.....

First Jim is correct, you need to have an escape plan, anyone who moves to a strange new country, needs to have in place a secure way to be able to return to their homeland, just in case.
You should have a sum of money lodged with an international bank, that only you have access to, and never touch unless for emergency.
Second, you say you can read understand their cyrillic language, but not sure if thats correct, this seems to me you have not fully researched the destination, moving to another country is NOT the same as moving to another town in the same country, you must research deeply, you need to familiarise yourself with local customs, language and money.

I adore travelling, I have spent most of my working life living in different countries around the world, and would never go anywhere without my escape bag/account and researching as much as I can before arriving.

So, if you are serious, then wish you great luck and success, living in a new country is exciting and can be exhilarating, but do it right, if it all implodes 12 months down the road, and you are stuck there with no job, no home and no money, no one will help you, certainly not the British Embassy, they will just tell you to get a job and pay your own way home.

RE: Outrageous double standard in US owned fast food companies

I agree, but America has the same chance to change, however, they seem to prefer the big and bigger, so no point in complaining when that is what the company sells.
KFC is far more popular in China than McD, Chinese like chicken, but their "Bucket" is a trough already, sadly pizza hut is going the same way, the salad bars now removed as they were being used like a trough, and then customers wasting most of the food. Progress is a fickle thing.

RE: ANTALYA

So now everyone can see why I prefer Greece to Turkey, thanks for the confirmation of my opinion.

RE: ANTALYA

Possibly they are camouflaged??

Most likely that at this time they are nearer to the borders where you are having a bit of a problem right now.

RE: ANTALYA

Yes this is often commented on by teachers who found jobs there, they first found everything rosy and wonderful, then as they started to explore further, so they found themselves more and more restricted, few of the teachers I have spoken with stayed for more than a year. Military presence like this is not really a part of our western culture. Shame as I had hoped to work for a while in Jakarta, but how looking west rather than East. But now Thailand is not so safe, nor Cambodia, so looking like Laos or Philippines will be my next home, possibly Vietnam, just biding my time for now.

RE: Outrageous double standard in US owned fast food companies

Its a myth
Quote"Detailed Analysis

According to a report that is currently circulating via social media and blog posts, investigators have discovered human meat in McDonald's 'meat factories' across the United States. And, claims the report, the meat comes from children. The report includes a video suggesting that the grizzly discovery may explain where many missing children end up.

A number of people have contacted Hoax-Slayer to ask if the claims were true. And apparently, at least a few people actually believe the claims.

But, of course, the claims are utter nonsense. No such discovery has been made. Although it may look like a news article in its original context, the report is pure fiction. It originates from the fake news website Huzlers.com. Huzlers fancies itself as satirical and nothing published on the site is true. It includes the following disclaimer at the bottom of its articles:
Huzlers.com is a combination of real shocking news and satire news to keep its visitors in a state of disbelief.
And, as you would expect, there are no credible news stories that back up the McDonald's human meat claims. Of course, if such a discovery were true, the story would be a huge news event all over the world. And all McDonald's stores would have been closed down by now.

Huzlers is responsible for several other viral 'satirical' reports that have circulated online. In a previous report, it falsely claimed that the creator of the game Flappy Bird had committed suicide. In another offering, it wrongly stated that the NFL was investigating the 2014 Super Bowl game because it was thought to be rigged.
While good satire can be entertaining and can play a valuable role, this sort of nonsense just adds to the dross that is already cluttering the interwebs. The 'human meat story' is in especially poor taste in that the attached video actually contains news footage discussing real missing children. The video implies that these missing children may have been killed and eaten. It is amazingly callous and self-serving to make such implication simply to promote a ridiculous 'humor' piece." RE: ANTALYA

It was the Army presence that I found off putting, everywhere you went you came across them, either hidden away barracks, with unsmiling guards that motioned you away by pointing rifles at you, or just around everyday streets, N.Cypress was even worse. By comparison, in Greece, going down an unmarked road and ending up at an army camp, the soldiers smiled, posed for pictures and pointed the right direction to take, different culture entirely.

RE: ANTALYA

Historically Turkey is really interesting, and there is a lot t see, during my short time working in Istanbul, I got the chance to visit some amazing areas, especially the Goreme national park, which is a stone village or township, quite unique I believe, but I never really took to the food other than the coffee and certain wines lol, Turkey is one of the few countries allowed to import genuine Georgia wine, thought to be the best wine in the world, such as Mukazani, as made with the original grapes dating back to pre-roman time.
If you like sweet food then the Baklava is to die for, but god so more-ish and so fattening lol But Greek fish and meat dishes are, in my opinion, far better, and their desserts are healthier too.

RE: ANTALYA

The majority of Turks are muslim, so logically we think of it a a muslim country.
For me Greece is somewhat nicer, more friendly people, less soldiers everywhere, better food and generally more relaxing, especially on the islands, but that is just my opinion.

RE: Outrageous double standard in US owned fast food companies

So whats your point?

McDonalds is doing what any switched on company would do, when selling into a different market place, they sell what the customer wants, in America you want big and bigger, in the UK they want small and healthier, in China they want hot and spicy, MCD's burger here are very spicy and and very hot, they are selling what the customer wants.

Instead of wasting so much energy on seeking negativity all the time, why not look for some positive things in life, smiling for example is so much better than frowning

RE: Should schools teach Creationism along with Evolution ?

Not sure what my age has to do with the topic, unless you are alluding that I was around 65 million years ago.
However, no I have never seen any proof that man lived alongside dinosaurs, I have seen proof that they didn't!!! Therefore I do not believe your stated "Fact", having cast a doubt on this and other theories you post, leads me to believe nothing you post is relevant!!
Ever thought about the environment where various dinosaurs lived? that may give you a clue as to whey some became extinct and others didn't.

RE: Quarantine and Martial Law Operational Details... dont want to post this guy;s news but its true

Scaremongering and misinformation at its worst

RE: Should schools teach Creationism along with Evolution ?

I guess you skipped the class where they explained that dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago, but mankind is only around 6 million year old, maybe you can show some proof of humans existing with dinosaurs? but seems no one else can, other than uninformed religious figureheads.

RE: Flying With Enemy?

According to a famous British airline, the stopping of smoking on long haul flights is a major reason why more disease's are spread, it appears that the tobacco smoke that stayed in the air-conditioning filters, killed the harmful bacteria and thus made the passengers safer!!!
