RE: BERLUSCONI

Yes there are jobs, but I was there for 8 months, living in a small town in the foothills of the mountains outside of Pisa, there many were losing their jobs, bars were closing due to lack of trade, one of my best friends family business folded leaving 10 out of work four from his own family including his aged father, the school I worked for closed as it only had private students and lost them due to their parents not being able to afford to keep them there.
Italy is weathering the economic crisis well but it is due to one fact alone, and that is the Italians don't believe in banks, so they keep their money as cash, and in Italy CASH is God. Also the black Economy is growing, which means people can still afford to eat etc.
I would also point out that Italy has one of the highest cost of living now in Europe, almost identical to the UK in most instances yet with considerably less earnings in salaries and wages in comparable jobs.

RE: Name a car that starts with P!!!

Wrong it starts with Petrolrolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

RE: What's this job??

When I buy mine I will come up to your province and take you for a ride, in exchange for some home cooking, the canteen here on campus is not the best of Chinese food laugh

RE: Go Veg, Go Green, Save The Planet

They do this a lot in the region of Italy I lived in, even using Veg etc as a form of local currency, so Mr x would share his greens and carrots with Mr Y who was an electrician and would fix up their electric problems, worked really well except the local supermarket used to get annoyed as they would often overstock with produce that never soldgrin

RE: Go Veg, Go Green, Save The Planet

Also what would become of the humble cow if we stopped eating beef and dairy products?

RE: What's this job??

Doing great but very very cold, but I love the Chinese people, so kind and generous, and such hard working students, hope all is going well for you also Amendahug cheers

RE: What has happened to you since you've been on Connecting Singles?

I have been here a longish time, meet in real life some wonderful people, one of whom changed my life entirely and introduced me to teaching English, I will never forget her support and help and she will always be a good friend.
I have gained many friends, some have left CS some remain, each day new people arrive and so new friendships can begin.
Just as in real life there are good and bad people nice and not so nice, but on the whole the community of CS is one that I personally and genuinely enjoy.

PS Robert you have yet to piss me off, but there is time yet

RE: The Global Warmingmantra

Maybe there really is a God, and this is his way of cleansing the earth and restoring a balance of nature, by getting rid of the human populationblushing grin

RE: The Global Warmingmantra

There was a report produced by scientists who were researching the polar ice cap which said they found debris in the ice that dates back to around the time of the dinosaurs, proving that the ice cap had melted before, they stated that the global warming was a cycle that occurred naturally.
This report has now been blocked by the joint Governments of Europe and the USA.

RE: Umm how do you respond to too much info too soon?

Thank you, yes I am loving every moment, beautiful country and wonderfully kind and generous peoplewave

RE: Umm how do you respond to too much info too soon?

No I accept that no names have been mentioned, my point is how will this guy feel when he reads this thread.

Some said he was thoughtless to dump his baggage on another, I think it is even more thoughtless to air this kind of problem in public. At least his dumping was done in private and supposedly in confidence, the fact his name is not mentioned will not stop him really bad.

RE: Umm how do you respond to too much info too soon?

Yep must be great to come home from work and find you have been publicly dumped and half of CS have described you as a loser.
My opinion is that if you don't know how to end a relationship then don't enter it, asking for help shows a lack of maturity to my mind.

RE: Leonardo da Vinci versus Michelangelo

I totally agree, when I had the chance I visited the town of Vinci and was enthralled by his works, I had no idea he had done such diverse and inventive stuff, plus is artwork is fascinating.
Michelangelo has without doubt painted some of the best work in the world, but for me when you have seen 10 cherubs you have seen them all laugh

RE: Leonardo da Vinci versus Michelangelo

No contest, Leonardo wins hands down applause

RE: Worse Ratio of Women to Men in the world

Move to China, 10,000 students, 8,000 are femalerolling on the floor laughing

RE: can bad smell really destroy the perfectness of a gorgeous looking person?

Some people have a medical condition that makes them smell, no amount of washing and using deodorant can hide it after an hour or so, I went out with such a girl when about 18 years old, lovely though she was I did find it hard to cope with, and felt so sorry for her, mainly for the nasty remarks she got from unthinking co workers at the hospital, yet they all knew she had a problem.

RE: Betty crocker rip off!

Oh forgot makes approx 24 biscuits depending on how much you eat during the mixingblushing

RE: Betty crocker rip off!

Here you go, far easier than using some cr*p pre mix with god knows what chemicals

Cornish Fairy Biscuits

3/4 cup (100 g) 4 oz flour
pinch of salt
1 level tsp (5 ml) baking powder
1 level tsp (5 ml) Bicarbonate of soda (Baking soda)
1 level tsp (5 ml) ground ginger
1/2 level tsp (2.5 ml) Mixed Spice (All Spice / Pumpkin pie spice)
1/2 stick (4 Tbsp) 2 oz (50 g) butter
1/4 cup (50 g) 2 oz sugar
3 tbsp (60 ml) golden syrup (substitute light corn syrup)
method
1. Sift the flour with the salt, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda, ginger and mixed spice. Rub in the butter and add the sugar.

2. Warm the syrup and add it to the other ingredients; mix well to a fairly stiff consistency.

3. Roll into small balls and place them 10 cm (4 inch) apart on two buttered baking sheets.

4. Bake in the oven at 200°C (400f) mark 6 for about 8 minutes.

RE: which is ur preffered method for transportation??

I would quite like to experience a flying carpet, one that can tale me to venus to see if there are any women left therelaugh

RE: WHATEVER HAPPENRD TO FOREVERYOUNG

I think the sentence was meant to suggest the the OP could be either a he or she.
This would seem logical to my mind as the OP has never posted before other than in this thread, and has not returned.
Everything about the profile makes one think that someone has created it specifically to do one thing, IE find Foreveryoung, which in itself is rather dubious to my mind, if there had been such a friendship as suggested, I am sure her email would have been in his/her possession, therefore it was wrong to bandy screen names about that can or could cause problems. IMO

RE: Scarey Saturday

Tonight I had dinner in the company of 4 rather pretty Chinese girls, I was fussed over and made to feel like a Lord laugh sadly they are only 20 and have adopted me as their new "Campus" Fatherlaugh But I enjoyed their company and it was fun trying new food that they ordered, I just wish they could understand when I say less chilli rolling on the floor laughing My Chinese is improving and I can now say, hello, goodbye, mines a beer or one beer please, can order fried rice with mushrooms and eggs and fried noodles, coffee and tea, so feeling quite chuffed really.
Snow forecast soon which will make life interesting as there is no heating in the classroomsmumbling

RE: Amada Knox.........guilty or innocent?

It is pointless my arguing with a closed mind such as yours, I will remain open minded until I can see actual facts before condemning someone, and in this particular case there seem to be many areas that just don't add up, I hope it gets resolved soon, I try to view people as innocent until proven guilty with real facts and evidence, shame more people can't do the same

RE: Amada Knox.........guilty or innocent?

No. I am saying that it is closer to the norm in Italy whereas somewhat rarer in other countries.

RE: Amada Knox.........guilty or innocent?

You just don't know Italy my friend, I will give you an example of their Justice system.
My Business partner applied to the court for building permission on land she owned it was refused on the grounds it was in an area reserved as a green belt.
She sold the land, the new owner applied for building permission, same court same judge, it was granted, when the building was finished, guess what, the Judge moved in, this is very very common, money in Italy is cash and cash gets whatever you want, Italy is a beautiful and wonderful country, but the corruption is rife throughout politicians and the justice system, the highest court in Italy even gave way to not prosecuting the PM because they were afraid of repercussions, yet the case against the PM was absolute.

RE: Amada Knox.........guilty or innocent?

Well I was living there until recently so have many Italian friends who I keep in touch with. Remember that the owner of most of Italian media is Berlusconi, so it is up to the few remaining papers to try their best to give accurate stories.
