You made the point that the states were as different as the countries in Europe, I beg to differ, I have given various examples each of which you have twisted back to your argument, so fine we will agree to disagree. I bow to your extensive and superior knowledge.
That would never have worked with me, if I felt you could not trust me to be introduced to your child then bye bye, a relationship gets to a point where there has to be shown commitment, FROM BOTH SIDES.
No man want to come second, so you need to balance love for him as well as love for your children, men coming into a relationship where there are children are not doing so to become a substitute father, there are there because of the woman, both partners deserve and need quality time just as in a marriage that has never broken up, treat a guy in the same way and you can't go far wrong, in my view. Remember your love for your children is unconditional, your love for a husband is conditional
And are you saying you never found a difference in the way people spoke between Dublin and Cork, be reasonable, if you go to Leicester you would be hard pushed to hear English spoken due to the large population of Asians. That has nothing to do with the actual difference between states. The point I am making is that which ever state you are in if you go to Wall Mart you will understand and be understood, hardly the same as being in Romania or Denmark
I repeat, I have travelled extensively in Canada and America, and can assure you that while there is a difference between states it does not come even close to the differences between European states, When you have lived there for a couple of years and toured around a bit, come back and then tell me, I guarantee you will come to agree with me.
But those languages are not the first language of that state, that is American English, the same goes for the Amish regions, they speak a form of German/Dutch but English is still the primary language.
Okay, but I am confused, I have visited 34 states and worked in 8 in my life, and although each one had it's individuality, the basic premise by which the residents lived was the same, they all have a common language, thats a fact, they all follow the constitution thats also a fact, their culture may differ slightly state to state but nothing like the difference between say the UK and Greece or Belgium and Poland, if you take a photo of a small town in Ohio and another in say Oregon, you would be hard pressed to say which came from which, drive down any interstate and you could be in any one of 20 states, that is simply not true in Europe, each country has different houses, villages and towns, each country has different roads built in very different ways, motorways in Greece have bougainvillea planted in the central area on dual carriageways, but you don't see that in the UK.
The Spanish are a welcoming people, as long as they can see you are genuine. Be yourself, no airs and graces, show you have an understanding of the local culture and don't mention Franco
There is certainly a difference between states, Oregon is very different to say Texas, but nothing like the difference between neighboughing countries let alone those further away in Europe, For a start there is each countries very different language, with languages within those countries, Spain has five different languages all different, the Uk has English, welsh, Gaelic, Cornish, then you have political stance from far left to far right, there are historical differences the west being predominantly Roman influenced, the south by Turkish/Greek, the East by a mixture form all over, China being the exception.
I have travelled through America from the north to south alone the east coast then back up through the central states, and believe me, the differences are minimal compared with a similar trip in Europe
Now there is a country with a lack of freedom, terrorists have spoiled a wonderful country, this is where greed and corruption have really made a mess of things
You are not wrong there my friend, Greed together with corruption is the cause of most countries downfall, Just take a look at history, Roman and British empires fo example.
Here in Italy, the few people I have spoken to have also said much the same as Summer, they admire the way America has grown, and they have more faith in Obama than maybe your countrymen, He does appear to have the countries best interests at heart and he is trying to make good a bloody awful situation, that he was voted in just by colour is, I would have thought debatable, but bow to your greater knowledge as we can only read what the press wants us to read.
Absolutely , when I worked in the states I was truly amazed at the pride, the flag flying everywhere, at race meetings when the anthem was played, they was a real reverence shown, and I really admired it. It is just that now, with the world becoming so much smaller, we all need to step back and come to terms with the fact that no one country is better than another, different, yes, but not better.
I think this needs to come from leaders/politicians, and sadly there are not many in the world that also hold those views, the vast majority appear to be more interested in the power rather than their country.
It is really down to the closed eye view that some in America have, they really have no idea about the rest of the world or care, whereas, Europeans, in my opinion, are more worldly wise, we take an interest in countries other than our own, and we listen to them.
I believe that national pride is still very apparent all across Europe, especially in Russia, Ukraine, Italy, Greece and Spain, countries I have visited and/or worked in, I was born in Kenya and am immensely proud of that and share my loyalty between Kenya and the UK where I was educated.
Freedom is not just about speaking your mind, it is also about having and giving tolerance, support and knowledge.
One thing that ma have an effect on how your country is viewed, is for example, how many europeans travel to Bulgaria and then ask for financial/housing/medical help, without even trying to find work or learn the language. On the other hand, how many people from the new eastern European countries travel to the UK and do exctlt that, receiving a house, money and various other aids, all without a days work.
That could well do with why some look at your country as a second class one.
When you think about it it's actually a very clever idea, cool in the heat of summer and insulated when cold at night with an average temp all year round of about 20 degrees, plenty of cave houses around the Med area especially in Spain.
