RE: Forum for Seriously Looking to date or serious relationship

I get the impression that perhaps he is talking about a separate Forum Topic/ category only for those who are truly serious about finding someone else as seriously looking to form a relationship..with those who are not, they stay out of it...many would make it their business not to leave them alone but be constantly interjecting their snide remarks and ridiculing them. Far too many here have the mentality that would make them a big hit on a website like that POF or Book of Matches which really, is where they belong in fact. JMO

yes...that is very true....but then the point of the post is that maybe there could be one topic for threads which are intended solely for seriously looking people and not merely for chit chat of those who are ONLY for the forums. Actually, most of the people I IM with and exchange emails with are ladies who are married and in a serious relationship already... we are only friends and quite open and helpful with each other in our discussions and have absolutely no intention of meeting.

Post: Why Are We ?

What's the purpose in our being. What's the point of living life?
Surely there is some masterplan?
If there is a supreme being surely he or she or it would know how things turn out n the end, so what's the reason for Us going through this master plan. Amusement of some Master Being?
What do you think?

Most human beings are simple creatures. Virtually everything we see is first designed to elicit one of three mental responses:

1.) Can I kill it?

2.) Can I eat it?

3.) Can I copulate with it? (perhaps more of man, only)

Provided you know these three things are what motivates everything a man thinks, says or does - you have our psyche cracked and then we can possibly figure out the why's....

RE: Is banishment still used as a form of punishment anywhere?

Agree totally, however it would turn ugly real fast with all sorts of "rights" and issues over State and Federal jurisdictions/ "States Rights etc.
"In the Public Interests..." "Community Standards" could begin to open pathways as in the end, it is all a matter of language; words which allow laws and legalities to work for the people or against the people. (Personally, while I lived in the US, I always advocated State Rights over Federal...) The wording of all property seizure and of confiscation, even to condemnation of... be it a State or Federal Statute, has always been interesting as a pathway to other possible laws including banishment of certain individuals in the guise of not only public interests but also as a public service! A playground for legalese! %D

RE: Is banishment still used as a form of punishment anywhere?

Banishment is still widely used in various forms and names by Countries, , towns, provinces, and villages, especially in the "Third World".
Banishment per se is now usually reserved in what are called "Executive Privileges" whereby the leader of a country or it's legislature can order one of its citizens or a particular individual out of the country with no right to return or to appeal the ban. Some occupations are easily used and are notorious as targets: journalysts, writers, mercenaries, artists, photojournalists, even bankers in some cases...etc. etc. Lists grow and sometimes shrink, depending on the country's leader(s) and their Judicial systems. Tribal councils are infamous for banishments in many countries all over the Third World Local or State governments won't touch cases seeking re-dress by those under bans. In some cases of dual-nationals, their passports are confiscated upon exit and others are given jail sentences in absentia if they try and return.Otherwise they can only hope for a total change in the Government. Many die in exile. It's hard.
I'd personally love to use this against politicians proved to be corrupt even if a prison sentence was unobtainable for legal reasons; ban them and their whole families from the State . Deport them to another willing to take on another crook into their community...maybe it would make some politicians think twice before they rip-off their peoples moneys...if their whole families had to also pay for their criminal behavior...just an idea...

RE: Why do so many people fall for goodbye threads?

I've seen the same people do this several times and I'm as mystified as ever...you have made the same basic observations as others and I think it is a form of attention pandering from when a bout of the blues hits a person; straight forward honesty would be a nice change to simply say they need the consolation, the empathy, the affirmation; hell we all do at times but we all don't seek consolation by announcing our leaving the site on a rising numerical count...

Thread: Why do so many people fall for goodbye threads?

Post: I don’t get the good-bye threads. I’m not referring to any one in particular, because I see about 3 of these pop up every day. Not just here, but other internet message boards also. They usually go like this:
“I have to say goodbye to all my friends. It’s been a great journey and learning experience, but my heart just can’t take the ache it feels when I’m here. Thank you all so much for all you’ve done and been to me when I needed it most. Farewell.”
And then a litany of responses follow that all pretty much say “You’ll be missed. Please don’t go” yadda, yadda…

RE: Has anyone been watching the news?

Several years ago, various Ministries of Defence across Europe from Belgium to Russia have released their record of cases, and films by gun-cameras on fighter jets of "UFO"'s. Since the majority of this information is available online either through specialized websites or from the Govt. Defence Ministries, the number of people who have ridiculed and joked about the topic or others who were witnesses to some incredible cases have fallen to virtually zero. The only problematic mystery remaining is how do they(UFOs) affect our lives, our countries, etc. if at all. Talk shows involving military and civilian experts take place on TV and numerous cases dealing with UFOs over military bases that store nuclear bombs, both during daylight and at night, seen by dozens of personnel have been accessed through the US Freedom Of Information act, that still most Americans remain totally ignorant of...like the incidents over Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico between 1960 to 1968, with a very notable incident of 3 large disc shaped objects hovered directly over the B-52's carrying the nuclear bomb loads. 24 witnesses plus the elite Air Force corps which guarded the Bombers all testified to this. All bases with Nuclear Arms depots have reported hundreds of fly0overs and hovering, especially at the facilities at Savannah River and the various Weapon Labs in California. The listing are extremely long. Countless cases over airports, near collisions in day and night conditions with both saucer shaped and the long cylindrical ones. The viewing of these craft are certainly more in certain areas than others but from world wide stats daytime sightings are again on the increase as are the sizes of the crafts as they were seen all through the 80's in upstate New York in the Hudson Valley; craft 3-4 times the size of football fields seen by hundreds of motorists along the highways. Still so much censorship and media ridicule in the US. No one else is laughing anymore.... Grow up; mature .

RE: Pre-arranged marriages

Many cultures still have them with minor variations, even here in Europe among the old, aristocracy whose families go back several centuries as opposed to the money power based of the "nouveau-riche" bourgeoisie. The customs are not what the morons of Hollywood like to portray them.
The old ways are based primarily on alliances and blood lines; the "others" simply for accumulating wealth...mergers in the clear business sense; signed and sealed agreements, codicils, pre and post nuptials, etc, You name it. It is as cold as one can get.
While "agreements" and "arrangements" can be by the parents or the highest ranking of a family, they are not binding; there are no blood oaths, so "marriage ceremonies" of children who are betrothed. The customs usually are held in honour; if there is no love between the 2 parties at an age of legal consent, the "pact", etc. is canceled and they are free to find on their own, but their relatives will also keep looking for a suitable match nevertheless...Over the thousands of years this has been going on, it is fairly safe to say that all the old aristocracy are somehow, related by someone, somewhere, somewhen...as is said..."our cousins".
Other countries, especially in the far east have very strict taboos, penalties for either man or woman, usually the poor woman gets all the crap in the more primitive societies or extremists of any religion etc.
African tribes have their customary rites of arrangements, dowries of animals, who builds the wedding hut, etc. etc. It all comes down to maintaining stability for the tribe, be the marriage for / out of love if lucky or out of alliances. It still stops internal wars between related clans...gee...just like in our old days all over Europe, be we Scot, Welsh. Saxon, Latin or Teutonic...however, that being said, the proverbial "monkey wrench" into all this is the absolute power of the Kings who could ignore any and all customs...setting off a multitude of negative reactions...ie. wars just to satisfy his own selfish lusts..., now there no more Kings , Emperors etc. at least for now...well, no system is perfect but with a bit of fine tuning it works just fine. Divorce is virtually non-existent and dysfunctional families are not the norm, but as with any people, there always those who go to excess with any of the many harmful modes of living available today. The old custom of introducing young marriageable couples to each other still takes place at various "social clubs", "salons" for the socially and intellectually sought after, etc. etc. All very low key, very civilized...whereas it seems to be the norm with the "Stocks and Bonds" crowds to be excessive and always in bad taste...JMO %D
Met lots of "isolated" European farming communities in Soth America of Mennonites, even Amish in Maryland , Pennsylvania to Mexico and all had their own versions of it ...even Hutterites. It works fine....jmo.
Apologies for the lenth....

RE: U.S. deserters lose bid for Canada refugee status

As I've spent many years in several armies around the world, the more I became absolutely opposed to any form of drafting recruits for any combat roles; to paraphrase French General Latterguy, there should be 2 armies; one to wipe the behinds of the politicians and march like toys at all the proper events. The other one, hidden, in camo, is the real army who do the real killing by the dirtiest tricks imaginable. They win the wars and they die for our country... I'm more for saying the hell with any draft, if the country can't attract enough volunteers ,maybe it's time to let it go...or simply change the emblem on the flag to that of a money dollar sign; ( a good stable currency, that is and pay as you go)

Speaking of soldiers in the US armed forces, I just read an article on the foreign citizens now serving , mostly in Iraq in the various branches of up to 30 thousand...all eligable for citizenship if they survive their enlistment...

Not bad...the Graphics were good to excellent.
The quotes used are historically correct, but the depictions of Cyrus was just bad; horrible; no justification for that schlock. The truth is enough. The original Hollywood version, The 300 Spartans had some good moments in it; also more accurate...ie. the Persians had no elephants there!! sounds like my grounds for annulment long ago...

1. the act or practice of deceiving; concealment or distortion of the truth for the purpose of misleading; duplicity; fraud; cheating: Once she exposed their deceit, no one ever trusted them again.
2. an act or device intended to deceive; trick; stratagem.
3. the quality of being deceitful; duplicity; falseness: a man full of deceit.

Giving out our private e-mail addresses is not always an option or a good idea....
I really do not like this new quote feature....

RE: Old Ways or New Ways please vote

I keep expecting pre recorded answers, comebacks, attempted sarcastic wit and canned comments to be appearing for the Forums; all we would have to do is choose the number of the response and not type a thing...
As volatile and heated as some forum posts get, they are at least human responses, not images, sounds or something "pre-recorded". People need to be in touch with people...you know the type...REAL people with real words.

RE: When you were a kid.

All the time, right from the first schools because of our name , and who we were. Living in the world of exiles in any country be it your own or within an exiles community in another country because of politics or even ethnic backgrounds can be a world of problems that have very long lasting effects; even seeing others who must endure all manner of the daily non-stop taunts, belligerence and other forms of hostilities. It is not pleasant to see nor be on the receiving end.
The world has at long last changed for the better in most cases as our sets of values.

Hope you find a way out of your dilemmas! Stand fast!

RE: Regrets

So far it seems to be a neck-to neck race between the two...
From all that I've ever read or inquired about on the subjects of "the after life" and reincarnation, it seems that if we are re-born for another go-around in Life, we do so with the inability to take our lessons learned from this one. This I find truly vexing. And I have asked many "teachers" etc. from the many religions that do seriously believe in our after-life and a later chance to be re-incarnated, ostensibly to "get it right" the next time around. Even the ancient(pre 7th cent.) Christian doctrines that spoke of it before being dropped have been of no help; learned Church members from different orders seem to be equally mystified by this exclusion as well, of past experiences being lessons to our future actions for the next incarnation...it comes down to :if we are reborn and have no memories of what we did wrong; or even did right, how do we make use of those lessons...
