RE: ~~What is wrong with you Americans?~~

The issue of Obama being a Muslim or not has been discussed countless times yet it continues in this endless cycle. I have yet to see a shred of proof to these assertions. Perhaps you can give me some sort of proof. Hopefully something concrete.

RE: Saudi Arabia to execute woman for 'witchcraft'

I can think up an explanation, it's their law, their country and their way of doing things. I'm sure the Saudis don't appreciate us looking into their internal affairs any more than we like others commenting on ours.

Don't get me wrong. I believe it's terrible this woman is going to be executed for a crime she may not be guilty of and even if she is guilty, I don't believe the punishment fits the crime.

I don't have a solution to this but I do know Saudi Arabiia and other countries with similar laws will have to change from within (if they choose) and us referring to them using terms like "moranically ignorant" isn't helpful.

RE: Super Delegates and the Electoral College

This is a good, informative post. I have heard the term super delegate for the last few weeks and was curious as to how these delegates became so super. Sounds like a really crappy way to do business.

If I read this correctly, this only takes place on the Democratic side of the house (Am I correct?) If so, I wonder if the Republicans have a similar fail safe on thier side.

Regardless, seems like a clear signal being sent to us dumb voters. "Yes you can vote but we have smart people who can correct your stupid mistakes"

Political Joke

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, while visiting a high school class, found themselves in the middle of a class discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asked them both if they would like to lead the discussion of the word 'tragedy'. So, the articulate Barack Obama asks the class for an example of a 'tragedy'. One teenage boy stood up and offered: 'If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing in the cotton field and a runaway tractor comes along and runs him over, killing him, that would be a tragedy. 'No,' says Barack Obama, 'That would be an accident.' A teenage girl then raises her hand: 'If a school bus carrying 50 children drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would surely be a tragedy.' 'I'm afraid not,' explains the boisterous Hillary Clinton. 'That's what we would call a great loss.' The room goes silent. No other students volunteered. Barack Obama searches the room. 'Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?' Finally at the back of the room, Johnny raises his hand. In a stern voice he says: 'If a plane carrying Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were struck by a missile and blown to smithereens that would be a tragedy.' 'Fantastic!' exclaims Clinton and Obama, 'That's right. And can you tell us why that would be a tragedy?' 'Well,' says Johnny, 'Because it sure as hell wouldn't be a great loss, and it probably wouldn't be an accident either.'

RE: What do men really want in a woman?

I want one as smart or smarter than I am. I like them independent too. Helps me to know they are with me because they want to be versus have to be.

I suppose I am intimidated by women I'm attracted to but that's more because I want to make a good impression and get to know them vice beng worried about how smart they are. That of course ebbs over time.

RE: WAR...huh..good god y'all...what is it good for?

I'm not sure if we have BBC or not. It's been a long time since I spent any real time at home. My rich uncle Sam keeps me on the road quite a bit. Even so, I'm sure it's available out in cyber space too. Thanks again

RE: WAR...huh..good god y'all...what is it good for?

Sorry, I should have made that clearer.

I was referring to the economics of war. If you wanted to get a real good but basic view of how this has developed since the 50s you could google the term "Military industrial Complex". It's basically centered around President Eisenhower's warning of how America was growing it's military capabilities for the purpose of economy and industry rather than necessity. Much of what we see today in terms of military are the result of the military driving the economy at such a high rate.

Anyway, just submitted in case you were interested

RE: WAR...huh..good god y'all...what is it good for?

I had not heard that. Thanks...

RE: WAR...huh..good god y'all...what is it good for?

If you ever want to see more on this just google (Military Industrial Complex) I believe it was Ike you coined this phrase when he noticed America pouring more and more of itself into military spending. His warning fell on deaf ears and here we are.

RE: WAR...huh..good god y'all...what is it good for?

So is #2 (Dynacorp) but we try to be politically correct and call them contractors.

In fairness, they are supposed to be used for security and not as a military force. There are not enough soldies to protect NGOs, diplomats, etc...

RE: Who Is Barack Obama?

Yes Marina I used the word "believed" because it was never determined where the whole thing started (Reporters have to protect their sources) In using that word I was trying not to unfairly place blame for the origins of the rumor on the Clintons.

You are very pointed with your critique of people not using common sense or their brains and are basing their choices for their candidate on feelings and emotions. This statement has some merit because there are some people who operate on that level. However, I would submit to you that you are doing the same thing or worse when you base your opinions on Obama, his supporters and the average American voter based on your feelings and emotions. Afterall, can you prove Obama is a Muslim? Or did you arrive to your conclusion by other means? If you could show me some kind of proof as to his association it would be different but the fact is, you haven't thus far.

As you may have noticed from my earlier posts throughout the CS threads, I think Obama is the best candidate on the Dem side but I do not support him to become president and really hope he's not elected. I only want to see him lose based on his political beliefs rather than false allegations. Who knows, if he is elected, he may do a lell of a job and we would have run the risk of missing out on it because of a lie.

RE: Who Is Barack Obama?

The Clintons or "friends" of the Clinton campaign are believed to have started the Muslim rumor. Excellent strategy (if you're crooked and don't care by what means you win) They tried to plant a seed of doubt to an already Muslim fearing American public in an attempt to destroy their opponent and it damn near worked.

Most of this died down after people started looking into it and discovered there was nothing to it. If there were any truth to the whole mess it would have been pounced on openly by the Clintons, the media and the folks from the other side of the aisle. The Republicans certainly would if they could because Obama, (IMO) will be really tough to beat when compared to Clinton.

Bottm line is, no one will come out and try to make this case openly and would be foolish to try to make it through a 3rd party. They know it's BS and any attempt to discredit Obama on this level will be seen for what it is and result in political suicide.

RE: Who Is Barack Obama?

Nowhat,

Nice post. Even though I would not vote for Obama becuase of political differnces, I don't want him to lose over a bunch of half baked lies. The guy has been pretty clean thus far and doesn't deserve this kind of crap.

RE: ~~What is wrong with you Americans?~~

Does it really matter who or what we elect? I don't think so because regardless of who it is we'll put up with abuses from in and out of the US. This thread is less than three pages long and it's already full of people calling others idiots, stupid, etc... Same is true with most of the political threads.

Let the fun begin or shall I say continue

RE: remove the religious thread category?

I think we should keep it. I see removing it as being a form of censorship or a limitation being placed on freedom of speech and expression. The MODS have already provided a set of rules to follow and as long as people are compliant, we should leave them alone.

Ship was right in his earlier post about religeon being emotional but so are the political and some of the other threads. I don't think we're prepared to discuss getting rid of any of those from this site yet there are some who are pretty vocal and prepared to be rid of the religeous category. confused

We can't or at least should not impose our likes and dislikes on others thru censorship
