I bought a new one 3 1/2 years ago for 169K. Up until a month ago it was valued at about 190K. Looks like I'll be renting it out vice selling it when I head for Afghanistan this winter.
I have my own thoughts on this. There are a lot of possibilities but given some of the comments made, "it's not gonna be apparent that we're right" and "Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy" along with some of Obama's past and present ties I think it's going to be pretty devisive. It seems the are simply preping the field for their game. I may be wrong but time will tell.
It's just too bad Powell isn't running. Powell was ineffective because of the way he was used in the Bush Administration and Bush was listening to the wrong people. Who's to say it wouldn't happen with Obama?
As an update, after Biden had realized there were reporters in the room he stated he should not have mentioned that. Ooooooops... I wonder what they're up too. There's more spin on the news now than there was after the last debate. I hope Obama takes Biden back to the woodshed for another adjustment.
Denmark wont be a target since some of Obama's greatest allies come from there.
Seriously, if he has any idea about such a thing in reality it would be better served to be talked about at the NSC, Executive and Legislative levels. Then again, Biden's not really known for his speaking prowess. He may turn out to be a good replacement for the current admin...
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe Reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., on Sunday guaranteed that if elected, Sen. Barack Obama., D-Ill., will be tested by an international crisis within his first six months in power and he will need supporters to stand by him as he makes tough, and possibly unpopular, decisions.
"Mark my words," the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."
"I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate," Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities. "And he's gonna need help. And the kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you - not financially to help him - we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right." Not only will the next administration have to deal with foreign affairs issues, Biden warned, but also with the current economic crisis.
"Gird your loins," Biden told the crowd. "We're gonna win with your help, God willing, we're gonna win, but this is not gonna be an easy ride. This president, the next president, is gonna be left with the most significant task. It's like cleaning the Augean stables, man. This is more than just, this is more than β think about it, literally, think about it β this is more than just a capital crisis, this is more than just markets. This is a systemic problem we have with this economy."
"I've forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know, so I'm not being falsely humble with you. I think I can be value added, but this guy has it," the Senate Foreign Relations chairman said of Obama. "This guy has it. But he's gonna need your help. Because I promise you, you all are gonna be sitting here a year from now going, 'Oh my God, why are they there in the polls? Why is the polling so down? Why is this thing so tough?' We're gonna have to make some incredibly tough decisions in the first two years. So I'm asking you now, I'm asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point because you're going to have to reinforce us."
"There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, 'Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don't know about that decision'," Biden continued. "Because if you think the decision is sound when they're made, which I believe you will when they're made, they're not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they're popular, they're probably not sound."
Biden emphasized that the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border is of particular concern, with Osama bin Laden "alive and well" and Pakistan "bristling with nuclear weapons."
"You literally can see what these kids are up against, our kids in that region," Biden said in recalling when his helicopter was forced down due to a snowstorm there. "The place is crawling with al Qaeda. And it's real."
Fear mongering... At least Bush was in office for 9 months before the Rep fear machine stepped in. I wonder what Obama/Biden have in mind. Perhaps this is just Biden stating Obama's going to make some stupid decisions and he just wants the masses to go along with them. What do you thinl?
Given his popularity, ability to heal the sick, ability to make the blind see, ability to feed 5000 with a couple loafs of bread and a few fish and the ability to walk on water I think we all know who the most important hamn being is.
That's right, Barak Obama. Just ask Dude, he'll tell ya.
That's true, it does get rather nasty at times. Sometimes i think about giving it up but I do enjoy the research this kind of thing demands. Enjoy the night, time for me to take a break.
Thanks for your comment. If all of us could discuss things in this way we would all learn a little more. I also find your posts to be very fair and well thought out.
Desmond, I really don't know how much control they have over the intro people. The last one was a local Florida sheriff. He does howver control his campaign staff and there's nothing like that coming from the staff. I thank it says something about him that he recently shut down that person making derrogatory statements about Obama during one of his rallies. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.
To be honest, I didn't recall a specific event but given the number of times I've seen it here in the forums I attributed it to the McCain campaign. Anyway, I went to Google and attempted to find such an event.
To make a long story short, I did not find a single event in which Palin or McCain referred to Obama by using his middle name. The only thing I found even close was an event in which Obama was referred to as Barak Hussein Obama by an announcer at a McCain event. McCain apologized for it and stated he knew nothing about it in advance.
The way the news media is biased for Obama I would imagine anything like this uttered by either McCain or Palin would be easy to find. Since it's not I would have to conclude they never have. I got that other post wrong. I guess there's a first time for everything.
No problem HL, glad to clarify. I agree completely with the bailout comment. I recall one of those same elected officials clearly state that he had been advised by the people who elected him to not vote for the bailout bill but he felt he had to do it anyway. In plain folk speak I think that means something like "The people who elected me to represent them are stupid and I'm doing this for their own good" People like him need to go.
