By funding the Greenpeace campaign against nuclear power, the Rockefeller family increases the value of its near total control of the global trade in fossil fuels. I am actually fairly close (just west of Beenleigh) and when I worked at Molendinar for nine years I went jogging on the Southport Spit almost every day after work. These days it provides a wonderful urban habitat for brown snakes, the presence of which make the path along the Spit somewhat more interesting. Even if the Spit was natural, look at it. There is the Sheraton, Marina Mirage, Sea World, the Nara Hotel/Resort, a few trees and then a massive parking lot on the edge of which is the coast guard tower and the ripoff kiosk. Environmental significance? Please.
The beaches north of the Tweed River would not have a problem if the Tweed breakwater was removed. It stops the natural migration of sand. Re the Southport Spit: I stand by what I wrote. Keith Williams used a sand dredge to create it. Some of it may have already been there, but what we know as the Southport Spit today is an artificial creation.

You are correct in your proposition that people who have poor literacy were probably not educated properly. This is not their fault. What is their fault, however, is a failure to do something about it when they recognise that they have a problem. There are books on the subject and even adult literacy classes. I have spent most of the past 37 years correcting the work of university journalism graduates who could not write a sentence in correct English. The education system has become more about social engineering through psychological conditioning and propaganda than about actual education. For decades it has produced people who could write or speak the language correctly; could not do even basic mathematics; were ignorant of history, politics and economics; and who had been taught to not think. Of the graduates whose work I had to correct, I can recall only one who had a grasp of the language and anything that approached a broad general knowledge. Most of them I would classify as morons, who did not demonstrate a capacity for critical thought. This is one of the reasons that the media is of such a poor standard.

Most nights I do not bother to turn on the television before 9.30, because before then we have 16 channels of ghastly local soap operas, or even worse reality crap, or bland intellectually-insulting American 'family' situation comedies. How is it that a resident of a Muslim country (which presumably does not allow any form of alcohol) likes to drink and knows what Fosters tastes like? On the subject of beer, I think that Fosters is crap. All the mass-produced beers are crap, because the big brewing companies add a rather nasty cocktail of chemicals (which includes arsenic) to the mix to hasten the brewing process. This is the reason why it would be a criminal offence to try to sell most Australian beers in Germany, which has a purity law to maintain the quality of beer. There are some natural beers, such as Coopers (made in Adelaide). I think that it tastes much better than Fosters. The most vile beer in Australia, in my opinion, is Victoria Bitter.
