RE: what was your first concert?

Well, I am from Miami, Florida, but Oklahoma is home now!grin

RE: what was your first concert?

I saw "Spirit" at Pirates World (sorta like Six Flags) in 1967, I was 12.

But my first REAL Concert was in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1970
JOE COCKER And The GUESS WHO!!!!!banana

Been to hundreds of concerts since then. My boyfriend was a Disc Jockey in Jacksonville Florida. He MC'd all of the concerts. We were at all of the Homecomming Concerts for Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker and Charlie Daniels! Ahhhhhhh... yes, those were the days.

Some days I do not have much recollection of at all...
Like the Bad Company Aerosmith concert. My friends carried me out by my arms and legs, I was passed out!laugh I drove, so they layed me on the ground by my van till the parking lot at the Colliseum emptied, then woke me up to drive us all home!

RE: John F. Kennedy

I do not believe I have ever posted this opinion previously.
I know I have never seen a detailed refutation. Fact are facts.
Kennedy had the U.S. Treasury print up Silver Certificates with our bullion to back it up. I used to have some of them. Remember the SILVER Kennedy half dollars? Yep, he surely did it! After he died, they immediately stopped coining the silver and made them with copper in them.

RE: John F. Kennedy

I have not heard that this information was in the time capsule.
I do not believe the real killers would expose themselves. I believe the CIA and the Federal Reserve were envolved, actually, an organization which includes them and many many more.
I have watched the videos of the assination repeatedly, closeups of them in the car. A flash is seen from the front seat. Either the driver or the agent in the passenger seat. He turned around and looked to the rear of the car as the shot was fired. They are not allowed to turn around. Also, why was Jackie so intent on getting out of the car??? She frantically climbed out onto the trunk and agents made her get back in the car. If the shot came from the grassy knoll, I believe I would have ducked down into the floorboard!

For those who do not know, Kenedy had stated that he would abolish the Federal Reserve. He cut them off and printed up Silver Certificates. I believe it was 2 weeks later... he was murdered!

RE: YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2009 when...

laugh Yes Sparky, it is True! I can really relate to all of them except #1... I do not have or use the microwave, and #11...
I do not, nor have I ever thought of tilting my head sideways to smile. It was only recently that I figured out what those punctuation marks ment... I never thought of looking at them sideways and people kept including them in emails and stuff... I mean like for 6 years...dunno confused

RE: Telepathy

hug wave Very well expressed Dusty!
Yes, I believe the thought process between the created and the Creator, as it is developed in us, expands our ability to develope that same thought process with others.
It seems to occur without our conscious thought of it, ie without our thinking about bringing it into being. Yet, it can be developed into quite a useful too as we gain understanding into the ability we have attained. It is a true gift. Ask for more understanding when these premenitions occur and you will be given it. Ask for instruction of what to do in each situation. Many who have developed their gift are considered to be clairvoiant or telepathic.

Yes, CS rules state there are to be NO PERSONAL ATTACKS!!!

Yet people continue to bite visciously!!!

I agree with you 100%. People here need to work on their behavior patterns in the forums. It's a real shame that we can not post our political views without being ramrodded. The same goes for the religious threads. They come out is swarms to eat you alive. People, this should not be. Just like the rules state... If you don't like the thread, stay OFF the thread.
Try a little maturity and less bickering! You wonder why new people don't post in the forums? This man gives you a perfect example of why not! You treat him less than human!

I apologise to you for their behavior. They should hang their heads in shame. People are precious beings and should all be given respect, even those we disagree with.

Please people, stop the bashing!

Survivor... Texas Style

Due to the popularity of the "Survivor" shows, Texas is planning to do one entitled, "Survivor, Texas-Style."

The contestants will all start in Dallas, then drive to Waco, Austin, San Antonio, over to Houston and down
to Brownsville. They will then proceed up to Del Rio, El Paso, Midland, Odessa, Lubbock and Amarillo . From there they will go on to Abilene, Fort Worth and finally back to Dallas.

Each will be driving a pink Volvo with bumper stickers that read: "I'm Gay", "I Love the Dixie Chicks",
"Boycott Beef", "I Voted for Obama", "George Strait Sucks", "Hillary in 2012", and "I'm here to
confiscate your guns."

The first one to make it back to Dallas alive wins.

Why People Find the Bible Difficult

WOAH!!! You need to back up a bit and read the bottom of the 2nd post on page 1, which is where the OP ends. This was a chapter from a book written by A.W.Tozer. I never said anything because I did NOT write it, HE did. You could have asked him to choose his words better if he were still alive, but he is dead now.

I know it's God talking to and with me, because I know Him and I know His voice. I have for over 20 years. Jesus said, My sheep know my voice and they answer to no other. I live in constant fellowship and communion with God and we share everything. The Bible says, He shares His secrets with those who spend time with Him. And He does!

Yes, I would like to chat about some things with you, no problem at all. Spare time is scarce with me at this time of year. Preparing for planting. I work at an Organic Farm and a Health Food Store, and oversee ex-addicted people who live in my home.
Now and then, I get to slip away to CS where all my friends live in this box!laugh

Great idea!!!!!lightbulb

Why People Find the Bible Difficult

It's much better to know and follow Christ, He was our example to learn from.grin

Why People Find the Bible Difficult

dunno

1. I am not a cultperson. I have a personal relationship with God, Jesus, Holy Spirit.

2. God speaks to me and He sometimes has me write things to share with others, inspired writings, if you will. I know it to be true.

3. The Book does not tell me what is right or wrong. I do not live by a Book. I live and receive instructions throughout the day, from the Spirit of God who lives IN me.

4. Jesus said he was the son of God, he did not need a council to decide this for him.laugh

Now, I would like to know what brought you to your decision that I am a prejudiced christian? I simply shared a chapter from a mans book. dunno

Why People Find the Bible Difficult

I spelled Mr. Tozer's name wrong and realized it after I posted it. Sorry for that.

He was a preacher in the U.S.
Perhaps he formed his belief in this because Jesus said it?
And Jesus DID say it.
One can not understand the scriptures without the interpretation given by the Holy Spirit. Only those who believe will receive the Holy Spirit. It was said clearly.

laugh You just gave a perfect example of the authors explaination of what he meant when he wrote, "The saving power of the Word is reserved for those for whom it is intended. The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him. The impenitent heart will find the Bible but a skeleton of facts without flesh or life or breath. Shakespeare may be enjoyed without penitence; we may understand Plato without believing a word he says; but penitence and humility along with faith and obedience are necessary to a right understanding of the Scriptures."

Thank YOU!hug

Why People Find the Bible Difficult

Continued...

Not only does God address His words of truth to those who are able to receive them, He actually conceals their meaning from those who are not. The preacher uses stories to make truth clear; our Lord often used them to obscure it. The parables of Christ were the exact opposite of the modern "illustration," which is meant to give light; the parables were "dark sayings" and Christ asserted that He sometimes used them so that His disciples could understand and His enemies could not. (See Matthew 13:10-17.) As the pillar of fire gave light to Israel but was cloud and darkness to the Egyptians, so our Lord's words shine in the hearts of His people but leave the self-confident unbeliever in the obscurity of moral night.

The saving power of the Word is reserved for those for whom it is intended. The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him. The impenitent heart will find the Bible but a skeleton of facts without flesh or life or breath. Shakespeare may be enjoyed without penitence; we may understand Plato without believing a word he says; but penitence and humility along with faith and obedience are necessary to a right understanding of the Scriptures.

In natural matters faith follows evidence and is impossible without it, but in the realm of the spirit faith precedes understanding; it does not follow it. The natural man must know in order to believe; the spiritual man must believe in order to know. The faith that saves is not a conclusion drawn from evidence; it is a moral thing, a thing of the spirit, a supernatural infusion of confidence in Jesus Christ, a very gift of God.

The faith that saves reposes in the Person of Christ; it leads at once to a committal of the total being to Christ, an act impossible to the natural man. To believe rightly is as much a miracle as was the coming forth of dead Lazarus at the command of Christ.

The Bible is a supernatural book and can be understood only by supernatural aid.

Man - The Dwelling Place Of God
Chapter 6

Why People Find the Bible Difficult

THAT MANY PERSONS FIND THE BIBLE HARD to understand will not be denied by those acquainted with the facts. Testimony to the difficulties encountered in Bible reading is too full and too widespread to be dismissed lightly.

In human experience there is usually a complex of causes rather than but one cause for everything, and so it is with the difficulty we run into with the Bible. To the question, Why is the Bible hard to understand? no snap answer can be given; the pert answer is sure to be the wrong one. The problem is multiple instead of singular, and for this reason the effort to find a single solution to it will be disappointing.

In spite of this I venture to give a short answer to the question, and while it is not the whole answer it is a major one and probably contains within itself most of the answers to what must be an involved and highly complex question. 1 believe that we find the Bible difficult because we try to read it as we would read any other book, and it is not the same as any other book.

The Bible is not addressed to just anybody. Its message is directed to a chosen few. Whether these few are chosen by God in a sovereign act of election or are chosen because they meet certain qualifying conditions I leave to each one to decide as he may, knowing full well that his decision will be determined by his basic beliefs about such matters as predestination, free will, the eternal decrees and other related doctrines. But whatever may have taken place in eternity, it is obvious what happens in time: Some believe and some do not; some are morally receptive and some are not; some have spiritual capacity and some have not. It is to those who do and are and have that the Bible is addressed. Those who do not and are not and have not will read it in vain.

Right here I expect some readers to enter strenuous objections, and for reasons not hard to find. Chrisianity today is man-centered, not God-centered. God is made to wait patiently, even respectfully, on the whims of men. The image of God currently popular is that of a distracted Father, struggling in heartbroken desperation to get people to accept a Saviour of whom they feel no need and in whom they have very little interest. To persuade these self-sufficient souls to respond to His generous offers God will do almost anything, even using salesmanship methods and talking down to them in the chummiest way imaginable. This view of things is, of course, a kind of religious romanticism which, while it often uses flattering and sometimes embarassing terms in praise of God, manages nevertheless to make man the star of the show.

The notion that the Bible is addressed to everybody has wrought confusion within and without the church. The effort to apply the teaching of the Sermon on the Mount to the unregenerate nations of the world is one example of this. Courts of law and the military powers of the earth are urged to follow the teachings of Christ, an obviously impossible thing for them to do. To quote the words of Christ as guides for policemen, judges and generals is to misunderstand those words completely and to reveal a total lack of understanding of the purposes of divine revelation. The gracious words of Christ are for the sons and daughters of grace, not for the Gentile nations whose chosen symbols are the lion, the eagle, the dragon and the bear.

Holy Spirit Empowering

Holy Spirit Empowering: Three Terms, One Reality
You shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now . . . you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you . . . And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:5, Acts 1:8; and Acts 2:4)
When the book of Acts addresses Holy Spirit empowerment for ministry, three different terms are used to describe the same reality. When Jesus promised this power, He used the term "baptized with." "You shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." When He indicated that this power would result in a worldwide witness, the term "come upon you" was used." You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you." Then, when these promises of the Spirit were fulfilled, the term employed was "filled with." "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit."
It is clear that these three sets of terms in Acts 1 and 2 are all referring to the same spiritual phenomenon, the Holy Spirit empowering Jesus' followers for witness. Each terminology may carry its own descriptive implications. To be "baptized with" the Spirit is like being inundated by Him. To have the Spirit "come upon you" is like being "impacted from above" by Him. To be "filled with" the Spirit is like overflowing with Him. Nevertheless, although the words each bring their own picture, they all are describing the same reality. All three terms are biblically accurate, although "filled with the Holy Spirit" is used most frequently throughout Acts.
These promises of Holy Spirit's empowering cannot be monopolized by any denominational group or theological heritage. Nor can they be ignored by any individual or segment within the body of Christ. These truths are for all of God's children. Every disciple of the Lord Jesus must continue to learn and to grow in this essential spiritual empowerment.
Perhaps a word of clarification is in order. These promises are not about the Spirit indwelling the people of God. The Holy Spirit definitely lives within every born again believer in Jesus Christ. "Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?" (1Cor 3:16). The Spirit already lived within the apostles when they were given these promises. "And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit'" (John 20:22). These promises are about the indwelling Spirit flooding and overflowing our lives with the empowering reality of His presence.

Dear Lord Jesus, You came to give us life abundant. Please fill my life to overflowing with the empowering work of Your Spirit. Lord, I am not seeking personal benefits. I am asking to become a more effective witness. I need the Holy Spirit's power that I might reflect the reality of the risen Christ, in Your mighty name, Amen.

Wanted for war crimes in Darfur: Sudan's president

By MIKE CORDER, Associated Press Writer Mike Corder, Associated Press Writer – Wed Mar 4, 10:08 pm ET

THE HAGUE, Netherlands – The president of Sudan became a wanted man Wednesday when the International Criminal Court charged him with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur — its first action against a sitting head of state and one that could set the stage for more world leaders to be indicted.

President Omar al-Bashir's government retaliated by expelling 10 humanitarian groups from Darfur and seizing their assets, threatening lifesaving operations, a U.N. spokeswoman said.

Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said the United States supported the court's action "to hold accountable those who are responsible for the heinous crimes in Darfur." Up to 300,000 people have died and 2.7 million have fled their homes in the region.

U.N. officials in Sudan will continue to deal with al-Bashir because he remains the president of the country, U.N. spokeswoman Michele Montas said in New York.

In the Sudanese capital of Khartoum, the government denounced the warrant as part of a Western conspiracy aimed at destabilizing the vast oil-rich nation south of Egypt. "There will be no recognition of or dealing with the white man's court, which has no mandate in Sudan or against any of its people," the Information Ministry said.

Several thousand people waving pictures of al-Bashir and denouncing the court turned out in a rally in Khartoum. Some waved posters of chief prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo's face with pig ears superimposed to chants of, "Cowardly pig, you will not get to the Sudan."

The decision by the court lays the groundwork for potential indictments of other heads of state who have been mentioned as possible targets of war crimes investigations, including leaders of other African nations and Israel.

Crane said the principle could even extend to former U.S. President George W. Bush over claims officials from his former administration may have engaged in torture by using coercive interrogation techniques on terror suspects.

Congressional Democrats and other critics have charged that some of the harsh interrogation techniques amounted to torture, a contention that Bush and other officials rejected.

The prospect of The Hague-based court ever trying Bush is considered extremely remote. The U.S. government does not recognize the court and the only other way it could be investigated is if the Security Council were to order it, something unlikely to happen with Washington a veto-wielding permanent member of the council.
