RE: The things that are visible but in reality do not exist.

If you think about it, what you see is always real (unless you are on drugs, or dreaming). A rainbow is impossible to catch, as it is always relative to the observer's position. Thus, a rainbow can be chased over a bridge, or can chase/follow you over a bridge, but it cannot be grasped. The double-rainbow, and the extremely rare and elusive triple rainbow are all very similar. But, you can often tell the fakes on the Internet just by knowing a little physics. Then when you look at supposed rainbow photos on the Net, it is amazing how many are fake.

The mirage you spoke about is real too. Differences in air density over any heated terrain or landscape will give this effect. It is real, it is just that it looks like a really messed up telescope, or pair of binoculars.

The sky does meet the earth, in many many respects. Space is considered to be "empty", but it isn't. Sunlight impacts the earth continuously, as do meteors, comet dust, etc. But no, the little green men haven't arrived yet, but I am quite certain that they do exist (maybe not green, but different than us, and definitely extra-terrestrial).

Sunsets are real, although the sun never literally sets, just one's particular view of the sun changes, relative to time and the seasons.

Shadows exist. etc....

So, I'd say examine the things that you're talking about more closely, and you'll see more than just what meets the eye. (Stick your arm in the water, and don't be surprised when it bends in an impossible place and direction!)

RE: Being authentic...

I don't watch TV, but do watch old VHS movies, and the occasional YouTube (videos on electronics), when google doesn't censure it and kick me out. Yes, I live the life that I outlined above. All Observant Jews walk away from their cell-phones for Shabbos, for 25 hours, every week. It is "normal" to us.

RE: Being authentic...

It is my humble opinion that many people cannot define themselves in any way. They are strictly the product of their environment, and cannot go beyond that bounds. Culture plays a part in that, as does media--since the invention of social systems, radio, and printing presses. There is a compelling need, within some people, to conform to society at all costs. Many of these people can function normally, until you throw a live chicken into their backyard. Then they fall apart. Prejudice, then, would seem to be a result of such inexplicable behavior (though there are more reasons, to be sure).

So, take the test. Go one day, in your normal environment, without "social media", without TV, without telephone, without music, and see if you nearly go out of mind. If you do, you are excessively compelled by external social pressures, and you cannot resist them--or to steal a line from Patrick Stewart, in a synthetic Borg monotone, "Resistance is futile." If your eyes, ears, and mouth, cannot stop the constant flow of external input from the outside, it is likely that it is due to the complete absence of anything on the inside that will take its place when those other things are gone. Even reading a book, might be considered social pressure, unless it is strictly scientific (ie, containing no hint of Atheism). If you fall asleep when attempting such things, you are certainly in the "danger zone".

The "live chicken" mentioned above is metaphorical. No chickens were harmed in the writing of this response. (If you are comforted by this last paragraph, you have failed the test.)

RE: Texas school shooting

Notoriety is what this is about. The media publishes these horrible acts, and the next sick mind is thus prepared to make it on the "big screen". They know, or have been told, they'll never become anything in life. So, they chose to "go out with a big bang". It isn't about guns. It isn't about treating people right. It is about the media publicizing horrible acts without any contrition of their own. This is worth repeating: It is about the Media publicizing horrible acts, without any contrition of their own.

People wonder why these blogs are so contentious. It is the same sickness. The compelling need to be recognized by the entire society. Many people want to be "stars", but if you don't have the genius or the looks, then all you are left with is notoriety. It is a mental illness perpetrated through the mass-media. Mass-media, mass-hysteria. There is a link. (And tellingly, many of the biggest mouths, don't have photos, which seems to indicate that they too are ashamed of what they are saying, and hide from their own words.)

I don't watch TV, and I avoid these blogs as much as possible. I'm an amateur author, and I'd love to get published again. But, it is not worth my soul to do it. Thus, I try very, very hard to make my few comments have meaning and applicability. I would offer the cure, but I hope that I would never contribute to the disease.

So, if you want to know what is actually going on in the world, turn your TV off. Then, look out your window. Is it peaceful, serene? If yes, then please report it to everybody! That's the stuff I want to hear!

None of the above.

RE: We need to make more babies or civilization will End.... The biggest threat to mankind?

Yes, I agree with everybody Galrads, you've gone off the deep-end. You have a long-stick in the outhouse and are stirring it just to cause more stink. I'll not be reading any more of your "blogs", a very rare distinction that you've earned.

RE: Could it really be "back to normal", now that Covid is no longer a serious threat?

I've been talking to a real nice Filipino lady in Hong Kong. They just got hit real hard. My lady friend even got it. Of course, she was "vaccinated". She's better now, but I still don't hear from her as often as I did. And she's in her mid-thirties!

RE: Has every topic worth discussing been discussed in the cs forums and blogs.

No, but every worthless topic, not worth being discussed, has been discussed, yes indeed.

Just cut-n-past the link. The following should do the trick:

RE: Can you think about the future without being sad? Where will you be in 12 years?

Galrads,

Did you really say galaxies? The distances between stars is difficult to imagine. The distances between arms of our own galaxy are almost unimaginable. The distance to the nearest Galaxy, Andromeda, is almost beyond all rational belief.

And you're talking about galaxies that are, "far, far away"? Oy! You're talking about distances that light takes millions of years to travel, traveling at the maximum speed limit of the universe.

The reason that Aliens aren't invading, is that by the time they build their invasion force, jump into their ships and head out towards the stars, even if they don't run out of food, warmth, fuel and whatever type of air they breath, after the centuries of travel to reach the nearest system, they'd have completely different political objectives, and would likely either turn around and go back, or stop at the very first survivable planet and stay there, never to return nor invade anywhere.

As a very poor example, take all the sands of the biggest desert on the planet Earth, then spread each grain of sand anywhere from 1m to 1kilometer apart somewhere between here and the nearest star. The result would be and oasis in space, but it would be just a tiny, tiny blip on the way to the nearest star, which according to NASA: "Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our own, is still 40,208,000,000,000 km away."

Galaxies that are far, far away? Like, really?

RE: Cain and Able...........?

Perhaps you should endeavor to find more accurate reading. It clearly says in the Torah they were both male. Ivri/Hebrew is a gender based language, and nowhere in the Torah is gender ambiguous. Anyone reading in the Hebrew would know this.

RE: Cain and Able...........?

In Lashan Hakodesh (The Holy Language, Ivri, Hebrew), Qayin is (mis)translated into English as Cain, and Hevel is likewise (mis)translated as Abel, and Chavva as Eve:

"And the man knew Chavva his wife; and she conceived, and bore Qayin saying, I have acquired a manchild from Hashem. And she again bore, his brother Hevel. And Hevel was a keeper of sheep, but Qayin was a tiller of the ground. ..... and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Qayin rose up against Hevel his brother, and slew him."

There is much knowledge in this section of the Torah (first five books of Mosheh, Moses). A wise man would read it, but with as accurate translation as possible, or, even better, in the original Ivri, Hebrew. Jews believe that G-d is indeed the author of the Torah, but Mosheh was the one who actually wrote it down, excluding the Ten Devarim (Ten Commandments), which G-d wrote with H-s own hand (twice, but the second time Mosheh had to provide the tablets for G-d to write on, after breaking the first set ).

G-d told Qayin that sin was at his doorstep, but that he could overcome it. But, Qayin instead chose to murder his own brother. In telling us this ancient story, G-d demonstrates H- graciousness in granting us freedom of choice. G-d could have just killed Qayin, and saved Hevel. But experience is a teacher. It wasn't just Qayin that would learn. So would Adam and Chavva (Eve), and all the world. And in re-telling this sad story, those of us that hear its lessons, still learn today, as generations have in the past for over five millinia.

This is just a very brief glimpse into this episode of the Torah. It is actually very different than what many people belief or lead others to believe. Observant Jews read the entire Torah (at least) once a year. I've forgotten how many times I've read it. I've even translated over 97% of the words of the Torah. I was starting to translate the actual sentences when my wife of blessed memory was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I lost her the day after Simchat Torah, the day when the new annual reading cycle begins, so it has been difficult for me to resume them. But I will this year.

RE: Name something women do that men find disgusting.

Karen resembles that remark!

RE: Name something women do that men find disgusting.

You're sure are you? Then you know which men are attractive? Hmmm.

I'm guessing there's a reason you don't have your photo posted. Even most of the women here have the where-with-all to post their photos. Too bad you don't. You ask a question on a blog, then dare ridicule those that reply? What people have been saying about you appears to be true then: you are the slime a maggot wouldn't touch. But that's just an observation. I'll do my best to avoid all of your blogs, until you evolve.

Besides, I wouldn't want you pondering my attractiveness anymore.

RE: Name something women do that men find disgusting.

I would have to agree, that the only thing they do (generally) that is disgusting, is the piercings and tattoos. Of course, men do it too, now. I haven't found a woman, yet, that looks attractive with permanent holes or ink added to themselves.

I prefer little or no makeup or hair coloring, but that doesn't bother me, as long as she doesn't wear it 24/7. I've talked to a couple of asian makeup ladies. I guess they tattoo on some of the makeup now. Eww.

Just my opinion, of course.

RE: Would you get married to an atheist partner?

Name one time a Jew has walked up to you, or anybody, and mentioned that H-word. We don't believe it in. It is, to us, a figment of the church's imagination. Why is it that all religions are put into the same barrel? Yes, I do see atheists do that. You already have. To quote you, "We are better." Any religion that see's themselves as better, is always "speaking down to others'", especially if they're not of the same religion. Whether the religion is polytheistic, or atheistic, when they say or think, "We are better", it is still a "sect" that looks down on others. You are part of that. What is that place, other than the place people who are "better" place those who are not? Yes, Ms. Atheist, you are as guilty as those that carry a banner. You just pretend your banner, that you proudly wave, doesn't exist. Nonexistent banner, nonexistent god. Seems like a pattern building, if you ask me.

And don't confuse pacifism with atheism. If you lived in the WWII era, when Germans rolled into your town and started killing everybody that disagreed with them, what would you have done? Proudly claimed you were an atheist? I suspect you would have died right where you stood. So, even atheists had to choose a side. Pacifists often stood and died, or ran and lived; brave death, or life as a coward. It was the only choice. So, you don't have zero wars. It is another false claim of your zero-god religion. Better, indeed!

All that Jews ask of other people is to just leave us alone. We're only 0.2% (or less, I don't remember exactly) of the world's population, but get blamed for like 90% of the world's problems. We don't want your wars. We don't want your religions. We don't want your blame. We just want to be left alone. You do your thing, we'll do ours.

Is that such a crime?

RE: Would you get married to an atheist partner?

Religious nut-cases? Who are they? 1) People who are fanatical about their religion. 2) People who denigrate others that aren't part of "their" religion. 3) People who believe they are "superior" because of their "religion".

Atheists. Who are they? 1) A religion of zero gods. 2) People who denigrate others because they are religious. 3) People who claim they are better than all "religious" people.

Hmmmm. So, the religion of zero gods isn't all that non-fanatical after all, are they? Just sayin....
