Hi Hazella I agree that it can be annoying and I am as big an offender as anyone. I think that it is like having a real life discussion and somebody keeps butting in with unrelated remarks. It is frustrating, and there are other threads,( usually silly ones if I am the poster ) for people to be social and have light hearted banter. Not meant to be offensive to anyone and like I said I am also guilty of it.
Obviously Philadelphia cream cheese with chives, smoked salmon mousse cream cheese, Banana, or just plain butter....... ......that's if we are still talking kitchen stuff here
I agree that some people do suffer from illnesses such as alcholism or depression which makes it much more difficult for them to work. I do believe that these are genuine complaints which thankfully now are more recognized by society.
Well they could be networking I dont think that all benefit receipients spend their days in the pub though. Some are working hard bringing up children etc. and others are really trying hard to get work. I think that a minority of people who choose to be long term unemployed have given other people in receipt of benefit a bad name.
That is what galls me most is that the Government are prepared to hit the less well off. Let them take a hit themselves. I agree that we all have to take a cut but I think cutting the bigger Government salaries and getting rid of unnecessary posts would be a better start than cutting minimum wage. This thread was not meant to be an attack on anyone and I apologize if any of my posts have come across as being such. I do not condone benefit fraud but I do not believe that the lesser well off should be singled out as the bad guys when our ministers are laughing at us while claiming expenses. For now I would rather see my taxes going to the people on benefits than to a padded toilet seat for the tanaiste
In an ideal world we would all contribute to society. My point is that the government are worse offenders than someone who is taking a few extra benefits. The government might be of the people but I do not believe that they are for the people. When they adress their own abuses then yes I do believe that benefit fraud in general society should be examined but until that I say let them at it. The government does not even respect our opinion...Nice Treaty/ Lisbon treaty. JMO. I do agree with you to a certain extent but I just see our government at the moment as a shower of leeches. I do not have faith in any political party making a difference. Sorry, just a bit disillusioned and in need of coffee
Well this was a few years ago and since I am an auld one it was always kind of drummed into me growing up that if you are lucky enough to have a job you should try and keep it. I dont think however that it is good for any government to kill any work ethic a person might have by making it less productive financially to actually get a job than to receive benefits. I do see your point though it was my choice to work for less money the same way as it was my neighbours choice not to work and receive benefits. It was just annoying at the time to be labelled an eejit for my choice. Anyway I perservered and I finally got a better job(which I feel very lucky to have these days)..so Happy days all around
I am starting to do some volunary work next week. I have no idea how it works out regarding unemployment laws but I can find out. I work full time so I think that I am just going to be doing a few hours one morning a week after work. If I get any info I will pass it on
Does it piss you off when people claim benefits that they are possibly not entitled to or do you just think "Fair play to anyone that can get a few bob out of the Government"?
It has been suggested that there are too many silly threads recently. Well I really only partake in silly threads....create them even I just try to avoid topics that can become argumentative especially recently. Although I do enjoy discussing more serious issues, I prefer to do so in real life. I think there is less room for being misunderstood in a face to face conversation than on a thread. Differences of opinion on a written forum somehow become more heated I think. JMO. So what serious topics should we not discuss? Like...why is the banana icon not working?
Good for you T. I have had arguments where I was right. If your brother had lived you would still have been right. If someone dies it does not mean that the conversation the next day would have been different...does that make sense? Well I hope people know what I mean... I do not believe in taking back what is said just cos the person died...cos if they had not died I would have said the same thing anyway... I swear it made sense in my head
I just meant the people in your life that you love. You are never meant to love people that are not good to you. We can choose our friends but not our family... I think that is such a true saying. I have just been lucky enough in my life to have family in my life that love me and that I love...lost my parents who were people that I liked and loved also. I suppose I just meant this thread for a big hug to those in our lives that we care about
It is late at night Have you ever looked at facing losing someone you love? General question... Does it not make all of us think how we should appreciate all of the important people in out lives? We have arguments... but is being right more important than keeping a friendship?
This is a general question. I am not losing anyone.... a friend ofi mine is... I just believe in treasuring the people that we have in our lives
Hi LL I do have some memory of Sherkin, cos I thought of Gherkins and wanted a big mac Hold on....ah that's what the photo is...but it was very tastefully done...What the hell is their problem...I mean so you are naked... but the pineapple hoops are strategically placed and fuschia always makes such a nice background
Hey, listen here you lil upstart It is like Humpty Dumpty story all over again....did he fall? or was he pushed? Lets face it... you did shove Nuala down the steps and remember the bus etiquette... You should never push your granny of the bus OR... You should never push someone who looks like your Granny of the bus
Woo Hoo... I have danced on lots of bars in New York ....fully clothed now I would just like a beer anywhere in good company. No point in being in a great place with some misery guts Having said that...A Coors light in Desmonds in Manhattan...no not the nice one on 57th st. The dump on 29th street
