I love lockets, I have two regular ordinary oval ones gold and silver. I have a mad handbag shaped one it is red. I also have a wee silver handbag locket. You have set me thinking....they are all empty...
How many things have we all learned and never needed to use? I learned to play the tin whistle...amazingly enough I have never needed to use that either...probably just as well as I am not very good at playing it. I did however enjoy it at the time, I also learned to paint but will never be a world renowned artist...that career choice was plain to be seen as not happening around age 6 but again..I enjoyed it.
Not meaning to be offensive to the OP but when I hear people expressing their opinions on how learning Irish is a waste of time I get annoyed as sometimes it seems to be their only argument against the language. I have had people tell me that it is a useless language..." where would it ever get you ?" etc. Well I am proud to say that I can speak Irish at a basic level. I was once fluent to the point where I thought in Irish. I think it is a much more magical language than English. It has a much nicer turn of phrase. I think that Irish is the reason that we as a Nation speak English the way we do. I heard a quotation once.." The English made us take their language and when we handed it back to them they didn't recognize it" ...well it was something like that
I spent years in school learning a language I have never needed to use and feel that Irish should not be compulsory for primary school children but left as an optional subject along with other languages on the post primary curriculum. Just wondering what other peoples views are?[/quo
I think it is great that children learn Irish at National School. I think it is also taught very differently since I learned it at school. I was however lucky enough to have great teachers who gave me a lifelong love of the language. It is after all a big part of our culture and identity and it saddens me to see a lack of interest in it.
Why cant we turn this into a slagging match Just joking.... I dont see why men and women whether unemployed or employed should get caught up in the money side of dating. I think that women should always pay their way, we are often,if employed earning the same wage or sometimes more than men. If unemployed I am sure we are on the same income. While I believe that it is nice for a man to make the gesture of taking a woman out, I dont believe that money should be an obstacle. I think that it is unfair of a woman to expect a man to pay for everything. We have wanted to be equal so lets bloody act like it and not just say that it is what we want. This is just my opinion and not a judgement on anyone else. I sometimes just like to chill out, watch tv and spend time with someone. Damn...I am argumentative this evening..sorry everyone I personally believe that the idea of dating is to get to know someone and that it does not matter how that happens...one of my best dates was at a lap dancing club..oops I was working...not Is there a CS cut off button...as in..shut up now
I understand safety concerns about leaving children with people you dont know but within a group of people who know each other well and trust each other it might work. I was quite friendly with a girl who was a single parent. I used to babysit for her on a Saturday night. She used to laugh at me cos I would stay over so that she could have a lie in the next day and not have to worry about bottles or nappies til her hangover was gone...she said the next day was nearly better to her than the night out I did it as a favour to her cos I knew she was on a limited income and I wasn't going out anywhere anyway so it was no skin of my nose to give her a break
No....not the soap The Social Welfare thread set me thinking... ... I grew up in the country in the a**hole of nowhere. We used to all help each other out..babysitting,helping with farm work etc. (yes I am a culchie with the wellie tracks ) We used to help each other out for free and do each other favours. I suppose what I am trying to say...(and making such a bad job of ) is that I dont remember people sniping at each other about dole/welfare/taxes etc. Do you think that this could ever work again? People are strapped for cash now and maybe if we all just within our own groups of friends took turns babysitting and pooling resources we could save money and help each other out? Can we go back to Waltons Mountain and support each other as friends and neighbours instead of looking at what the other person has and being resentful? Is this a silly thread? Do I need more caffeine? Is there really a full moon? Is the earth round? Oops...men in white coats...gotta go
R.I.P. Stephen I dont know anything about Boyzone...was living outside of Ireland when they came on the scene so my first vision of them was that ghastly appearance on the late late show I hope that the media has the decency to let him rest in peace and accept that he died of natural causes. I think it is despicable when raggy tabloids try to dredge up dirt and speculate when a celebrity dies. They seem to forget that the deceased has a family who are grieving and cannot let them do so with dignity... Damn.. I am crabby this evening ....must be the full moon..or the rumours of a full moon
lmao...I am showing my age everywhere, under my eyes, round my middle...all over the place.....luckily there is botox in Coors light so at least my beer belly is wrinkle free
Yeah but have they not abused us enough from years ago with all the "faith and begorrah stuff" e.g. Darby O Gill etc.? Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in "Far and Away"....they should have been far away from anything that was supposed to even remotely resemble an Irish Accent. Why also cant people recognize that Ireland is not part of the UK apart from having six counties that are governed by it? It's like...Oh yeah, Ireland is over there somewhere sure we will get someone from nearby to give a shot at the accent...wonder is Gerard Depardieu available? Isn't he from near there Sorry for rant, going to get my coffee now and see if I can find a nice sweet sunny disposition to go with it Oops...no sun in Ireland..despite being so close to France
Just realized that my last post was offensive and not funny. I do actually take all kinds of mental health problems seriously. I sincerely apologize to anyone who suffers from or who has family members who suffer from any kind of ill health. I cannot take my post back but please know that I feel like a pratt for posting it. Sincere Apologies
