I suppose that we have no choice....again...to take what the government throws at us. I am an auld wan I actually remember a time when kids did not get x boxes etc. for Christmas. I grew up in a rural area where everyone was poor, so luckily there was no stigma attached. Neighbours helped each other etc. You did not have to pay the kid down the road up to 30 euro a night to babysit, it was what you did for a neighbour.. Do you think that we are going to have to go back to that? I think that maybe it is no harm if we all have to go back to times when we actually did things for each other...sense of community etc. Dont get me wrong, I am pissed off that the budget is putting all of us and some more than others in such a horrible situation. I am just wondering if we all as a community can pull together and go back to the old ways of helping each other out for no financial gain?? Not a recommendation, just a question...are we capable of giving to each other?
Hi, just thought this might be interesting for anyone who has kids. I made a demo lol. You can put in pics, and say what is on the kids santa list etc. I used a pic of someone that you will all recognize. I am sure that a lot of you have seen this already but I sent it to friends who loved it. Merry Christmas everyone
....Northern Ireland? You are probably right I am sure they have way better services however we poor plebians in Donegal have the same type county council as anywhere else
....Not...... The Last Word with Saoirse.... Jeez....Do I kill every thread???? It is not even that late on a Fri. Night yet I have the last word? Damn....I wish all arguments ended this way.... Dont even think of coming home from the pub and posting
Watching John Kenny ( D'unbelievable's) He seems to be a very funny character who it seems has battled cancer. He said that people would say " Ah he had a bit of a knock" Then when he had to go for treatment, behind his back " He's gone to Dublin" !!!! as John Kenny said...." you go to Dublin, you dont come back" So I suppose we all sugar coat things Do we just ignore things rather than face up to them?? Very funny man though, IMO much funnier than Pat Shortt...
I was standing outside a local community centre, There was an auld fella standing over a bit having a smoke. He took a fit of coughing and the girl with me said " Another Clean Shirt will do him" I had no idea what she was on about....She meant he hadn't long left.. Like your story just having a laugh, he was a neighbour of hers and is still on the go..
No... we just notice the less thoughtful mean people more because they sometimes can make themselves heard by being loud and obnoxious. The truly kind and generous people are in the background getting on with it and just appearing when they can genuinely help or support someone else.... C'mon people....positivity....we are surrounded by good people
Delighted to hear your good news Sativa. Glad that you will get to spend Christmas with family. How generous of that person, I am sure that they enjoyed doing that for you. I have often had people be generous to me.. again when I was spending holidays alone or working. I like to believe that truly kind people outnumber those who can sometimes be nasty. In bad weather this morning as I was dreading leaving work a neighbour offered to drive my car down to the main road for me as he knew I was nervous about driving home. I managed it by myself but I was comforted to know that if I got stuck he would help me out. I dont even know this man. Hope you have a lovely time with your family
Think it is probably an Irish thing, I have heard both those sayings used where I come from (Cavan). I love this one, Was chatting to a fella from Armagh one day, my brother asked him was the pub he was in the night before busy. Yer man said..." Jaysus it was that packed you couldn't turn a sweet in your own mouth" Another one in Kildare...about a bendy road... It is that bad you will see the back of yer own head going around it.. Donegal Version, again about a bendy road...you will meet yourself coming back I love all the different sayings, they have to be confusing for Non Nationals though.
RE: things you hate/dislike....
Ah sure we let the men keep on saying silly stuff like thatI am grand, How's yourself?
