Seriously, has anyone ever heard of these jeans? I stumbled across an article about them a couple of days ago and I have been curious since. I see that Pamela Scott stocks them, I dont know if they are available in Culchieville yet, there are no Pamela Scott stores in these here partslaugh

RE: Do you think a woman going abroad on holidays alone is....

I agree that it is probably safer not to travel alone. Have to say though that I had a great time when I went away by myself. People were really friendly to me when they realized that I was travelling alone. Will admit had one incident when I was halfway up a mountain and ended up on a dirt road lost for a few mins but I had mobile phone coverage and my doors locked and kept going til I reached a wee village. That was probably stupid on my part, stayed on main roads after thatlaugh
Overall I believe that life is for living and not being afraid of what might happen. I do not want to live my life thinking about being robbed or stabbed or else I would never do anything.wave

RE: College Grants

A hotel employee in Killybegs told me the Chef Course is still done the same way but maybe she meant as in placements etc. and not the actual funding. I knew there had been some changes. Sure it was probably way too good to last lol. I was speaking to one of the lecurers recently too and he said the same thing again though he possibly meant the course rather than the funding.wave
Sorry if I am posting twice, damned internet connectionvery mad

RE: College Grants

Oops out of date page but people around here tell me that cert is still running.dunno

RE: College Grants

I am such a stubborn witch, thought the blue rinse had finally killed all the brain cells but here ya go

Hope you find this informative there is no age limit to get the grant and they do offer a course in Sligo.wave

I know another chef who trained here and went on to win young chef of the year, nearly fell over when I saw him on RTE lol.He now owns a fantastic restaurant in Cavan, never thought you would get Carpaccio in Cavan but he was serving itbanana

GMIT is also covered by cert and I would almost guarantee that if you make your application through cert your course is paid for and you will also get a training grant.

RE: College Grants

Maybe it does not exist anymore but I know a lot of chefs who trained in Killybegs and they were funded by CERT. The courses were offered in Colleges all around the country and it was a world wide recognized qualification at the time. Nice while it lasted, going to college and getting paid for it.
From what I remember the applications had to be in early and then there was an interview process.
Conrad Gallagher trained through CERT in Killybegs.

RE: College Grants

What about CERT?. I dont know how it works now but they used to train you and give you a training allowance while at college and then on placement the employer paid you. It is or was at the time a certified city and guilds course two years Professional Cookery course. You could then do a third year more specialized course.
Good luck with itwave

Ireland's New Blasphemy Law

Hiya J, you are looking wellwave
As already pointed out by Singlegalway (I think, sorry if I got name wrongblushing )
On the first day of 2010 (note: not 1310), Ireland's new blasphemy law came into effect, making statements about the folly of religion punishable by a 25,000 euro fine. Specifically, the law forbids "publishing or uttering matter that is grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters sacred by any religion."

Blasphemy was already a crime in Irish law; the new legislation merely extends the right not to be offended to people of any faith at all

From what I can see (purely my own opinion now)it appears to be a bit extreme. I mean I totally believe that we should all be respectful of anothers religious belief (well if my neighbour is performing human sacrifices I would be a bit concernedblushing especially since with Christmas weight gain I could be a prime candidate for sacrifice :( ).
I think that it just restricts our own expression and we will all have to be extremely vigilant and pc in our choice of humour and speech.
Then again it could be a money maker, I might take major offence at any derogatory comments made about my religion and the offender would be subject to a massive fineconfused

Ireland's New Blasphemy Law

Do you understand it?
Do you agree with it?
Does it effect our freedom of speech?
I am going to watch Miriam O'Callaghan to see what it is really all about. It is on at the moment.
I am just curious as I do not really get it.dunno confused

RE: advice wanted

Well in a perfect world we would all love to spend time with our parents and everything would be great. We would appreciate how much they did for us and the sacrifices that they made for us.
We would like to make all the time we spent with them matter so that we could remember it when they are gone.
Unfortunately that is not always how life is. I have known people who just could not have a close relationship with their parents and in order to maintain any kind of relationship they had to move on and set boundaries on demands being made on their time.
I lost my parents when I was very young. I was very close to my mother(my father too but I only have childhood memories of him) and yes, I would love to have Sunday dinner with her again.
I could never understand how someone could not want to spend time with their parents and some of them saw it as a chore.
However, having said that I have seen friends through the years who did not have that close relationship with their parents and I would never say...Oh you are lucky to have them.
I would say JH, that you have to do whatever it takes so that you do not feel obligated to call up whenever they want you to.
I do not think that you should feel you have to move far away but just make it clear that your home is your space and that your time is precious to you and that you need to have your own life.
Of course I would still think that it would be nice to respect that they are still your parents and make some time for them on your terms. From what you have said it appears that talking has not worked so you will probably just have to make certain changes in how you allocate your time and hope that in time they will come to see that you have your own life and accept that you cannot be a full time part of theirs.
I am sure it is hard to try and deal with but at the end of the day it is your life and I would think that it is better to spend less time with them rather than resenting the time you do spend with them.
Hope it works out for youwave

RE: Is it human nature to always see the negative

I think that because of our age group,, just speaking for myself here....
We were never encouraged to promote ourselves..we were never allowed to say that we were good at anything or that we looked nice..so we tended to put ourselves down in case that we appeared to be big headed...
Maybe not totally related to your thread but...maybe we did not have the confidence to believe in ourselves and in good things happeningdunno
