Occassionally when I have a few minutes, I'll look thru the women's profiles on here (mostly in my state) and if I see a pic I rather like I'll rate it a 10 and leave a flattering photo comment... if I don't like, I just move on. dunno

I just happened to pull up my own photo ratings and comments a minute ago, and while I only have 2 or 3 comments total I was suprised that 1 of them was a pretty ugly comment from some person I never heard of before on here! WTF?

What's the point of being ugly to a stranger on CS? confused

Well at least I know why THAT person is single and on CS no doubt. If you have nothing good to say to somebody, how about keeping it to yourself and moving on... life's too short, I swear. sigh

Single Representatives... are you represented at any level in govt.?

Could be... we got alot of religious nuts in this country unfortunately. It's funny, the nation was founded by people who wanted freedom of and FROM religion, and ever since we've pretty much regressed back into religious intolerance of others. This new "Tea Party" that's been in the news here lately proudly proclaims it's beliefs are based on the Christian Bible... doh

Now we also have legal firms on TV running ads proclaiming that "We're Christian Trial Lawyers!" and "It's not wrong to get what the law says you deserve!" (ie. God wants you to sue people... that's the message they seem to be sending IMHO). dunno

It's nuts, and it seems to me that those least qualified to lead are the only ones with "electoral appeal" (ie. married with 2.5 kids typically). Sarah Palin (also in the news way too much now) has a teenage daughter who got knocked up (abstinance only really worked well there!) and now has a child... and can no longer stand the child's father. Brilliant that! mumbling

But I digress...

RE: Too overweight to date?

It's not a matter of being too fat to find somebody to date, but a matter of what kind of person you're wanting to date. I presume there is such a thing as BHM (Big Handsome Man)... idk. dunno

However there is absolutely no downside to working out and eating right, trying to be fitter. It only makes you a more attractive person overall the longer you keep at it... and it makes you healthier, too. I fail to see the problem here, or why so many women go year after year after year being well... uhmm... fat. confused

In a dating book for men I once read, the author put it very plainly... "join a gym, workout and eat right and get rid of the spare tire... then join ANOTHER gym and go there where the women don't know what you looked like before and meet-n-greet and try to get dates with the ladies". dunno

Regards and best wishes. hug

Yeah at least you couldn't criticize single elected officials (if there WERE any!) for sleeping around. We wouldn't have to lie about it, unlike John Edwards and other politicians... Just thinking... ever notice that only married people get elected to office? Usually they're married with 2.5 kids in fact... so, who is representing the population of SINGLE people who aren't married with 2.5 kids? confused

Why do you have to be married with 2.5 kids in order to hold elected position? Shouldn't this qualify single people with no kids as a legal minority group? dunno

Obesity

Whats with the "WTF?"? Ever watched a friend who can barely move their body 1 foot, from a wheelchair seat to a vehicle seat and in almost total agony at that, because they're so obese they can't stand up? Ever worried about somebody like that? Ever spent hours trying to talk with them about how badly they need a weight loss surgery, only to be told that they don't want to do it because they like to eat steak and stuff and don't want to "live like that" (ie. eating very small very healthy meals and taking vitamins and such, or else vomiting that STEAK back up)? Ever had a friend tell you with a sudden pained expression on their face that "Mike, I gotta go to the bathroom RIGHT NOW.... oh never mind, it's too late." uh oh

I don't see how his wife manages to deal with it. Other friends of his have worried (and mentioned to me) that she'll give up at anytime now and just leave him... what that'll mean, I have no idea but it can't be good. dunno

That's WTF.

- Michael

Obesity

Let's be realistic here now... at almost 1/4 ton and unable to stand up for even a few seconds, just eating "healthy foods" isn't going to cut the mustard here! He's a big man and he has a big appetitite I can assure you after seeing how he regularly eats!

Besides, haven't you ever heard of pizza delivery before? You can't lock the man up in a cave somewhere... if he wants fattening foods he's going to get them. The only possible way to make him eat better and less is a gastric bypass surgery where if you eat fattening foods or too much food at once you get sick and vomit... THAT, would force him to eat right and make him start really losing weight. I figure 10 to 20lbs needs to come off this guy each and every month for almost a year to get the results it'll take to turn his life around... he isn't going to achieve those kinds of results any other way that I know of. I believe he said that the last time the hospital was able to weigh him (eating only hospital food then!), he was dropping maybe 2lbs a month.

If you know something I don't, let me know! His entire family, wife and 4 sons, and all his friends have made it totally clear that WE would ALL love to see him have a gastric bypass surgery... pick 1 of them and go for it! There's like 4 or 5 different types available to him now, 1 doesn't even involve actual surgery they do it thru the esophagus (sp?)... but no, he's dead-set against it. Says he's afraid of throwing up if he eats too much or wants to eat a steak or whatever, he doesn't want to have to take the daily vitamins required (like taking diabeties medication and all doesn't count somehow?), and fears dying during the operation (didn't die during the emergency back surgery, so I fail to see how that remains a sticking point but he's admanent about it).

From my point of view, I may be his friend but once he loses his limbs due to the diabeties and gets institutionalized in a "care home" or hospital somewhere, I'm NOT going to visit him anymore! I will not be pulled down by this man who's been given every chance to take care of his problem but doesn't want to take care of his problem!

I have more than enough problems with depression on my own, I don't need somebody dragging me down because they can't get over the fact that they need a gastric bypass surgery to save their life. He could get help, with all the costs covered by health insurance since he's mordidly obese, but he doesn't want to... well, I don't want to go visting somebody who let's themself get to the point he's nearing!

- Michael

RE: Would you date the person above you?

For a "dating site", there sure seems to be very little actual dating going on around here. confused

Talk's cheap, real dates speak louder than forum posts asking "would you" do this or that or the other.

Obesity

He could still drive a year ago, before the paralysis from the crushed disks started to set in. ie. With help getting into his vehicle and back out into his power wheelchair again, he drove himself to Denny's that night. He took himself ergo.

The choices my friend makes are not the responsibility of the rest of us. He did not have to order the most fattening dishes on the damn menu. dunno

Don't assume that any of his friends or family or fellow club members have been encouraging him to do this to himself, it's all been HIS choice. I don't claim to understand it.

RE: Should it be against the law to text and drive?

I'm not arguing your point there... but these "banning" this and that laws, they're throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Everybody is being penalized for the sins of just a few. dunno

I don't agree with this business of stacking laws on top of laws on top of laws. If you want to protect EVERYBODY from traffic accidents, then ban automobiles and everybody can just walk. Problem solved!

Otherwise, there will always be somebody causing a traffic accident because of poor driving. uh oh

Cell phones don't cause traffic accidents, people do. Regards!

- Michael

RE: Should it be against the law to text and drive?

Funny that there was a report released just today that a study conducted by some group (I forget the name) found that laws against using cell phones didn't reduce the number or severity of traffic accidents in areas that have passed such laws in recent years.... the accident rates have remained the same as before the laws were passed. confused

Everytime somebody get's hurt in an accident, there are calls for MORE LAWS... life's not safe by design people, and you cannot micro-manage life by laws piled on top of laws. The law of diminishing returns comes into effect. Ironic that! LOL! rolling on the floor laughing

Here in Texas they recently passed a statewide law banning the use of cell phones entirely (no handsfree even) in school zones... now what if I'm on a call driving, and enter a school zone and in my haste to get off the phone and put it away run right over some kid who's crossing the street? Just the very act of having to get off the phone and put it away is distracting to a driver, perhaps even more so than the phone call itself. The law, could actually cause accidents. Brilliant! dunno

Ergo I think it's a bad law. The law regarding driving already mandates that drivers must pay attention to their driving BY LAW. Piling more laws on to of that just makes a mess of things IMHO.

ps. I was in an auto accident in 2003 where the other driver was distracted by her cell phone and made an illegal left turn 20 feet in front of me on a divided freeway and I T-Boned her vehicle... she was at fault, not her cell phone. I blame the driver for not paying attention to her driving, not the cell phone for being in use. Bad drivers are bad drivers, no matter what else they may have going on inside their vehicle. Kapish?

- Michael cowboy

RE: Should it be against the law to text and drive?

Well isn't it also harmful to be trying to eat fast food while driving? How about yelling at your kids in the backseat while driving? What about daydreaming about a tropical island full of naked women while driving? Oops, but I digress.... uh oh

Point is, there are ALOT of things that are distracting to drivers which can cause them to have traffic accidents... should we outlaw EVERYTHING? If not, why not? confused

idea Idea! Why not just outlaw driving itself? If everybody is forced to walk then that should eliminate ALL traffic accidents, right?

This is the same issue as trying to ban guns... guns don't kill people, people kill people, so why not get to the source of the problem and just ban people? Cell phones don't cause traffic accidents, piss-pore drivers who don't pay attention to their driving CAUSE TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS... so make piss-pore drivers illegal, and leave the cell phones for responsible drivers who know when to say "Hey I can't talk right now traffic's getting bad I'll call you back when I'm in a better area" and hang up!

Hello, here's your sign! scold

Obesity

It's not a question of the food that's in the house. The position this man has gotten himself in to, there's just no way he can burn calories from anything he eats. He tells me he's on a "special diet" now, and losing maybe a pound or 2 a month... but when you do the math, he needs to lose at least 275 lbs to be anywhere near reasonable for his height and build, and at a maximum of 2 lbs per month that'll take at least 137.5 months (or a little over a decade) to lose the weight. This assumes he keeps on the special diet and dosn't cheat by ordering a large pizza or box of fried chicken from time to time (and I know him well enough after 4 years to KNOW he is going to cheat every chance he gets). I don't think there's a chance in hell of his current strategy ever working. He'll die of a heart attack or a sore somewhere on his body going septic long before that. Plus his wife isn't getting any younger and she's struggling to take care of him already... I don't think she can manage to care for him like this for that long! His sons have no sympathy at all left for their dad, they sure as heck aren't going to help care for him. sigh

When you're morbidly obese, dieting is not the answer anymore.

It's frustrating watching somebody like this, knowing there is real help for his weight problem out there but he won't even consider it. It's enough to make a person downright angry at times.

IDK... last night after the meeting I just felt kinda sick seeing a grown man who could barely move his own body 1 foot from the wheelchair seat to the vehicle seat because he's insanely fat and won't do what it takes to lose the excessive weight. If he doesn't want to undergo the surgery for himself then he aught to do it for his wife and kids, because they've about had it with him at this point... then what's he going to have left, when they finally give up and turn their backs on him? dunno

I do appreciate your comments, however. Thanks.

Obesity

Hey, don't blame the messenger... it wasn't my idea to go out to eat after the meeting... I'd just as soon have gone home.

I could not believe what that man ordered and ate though, given his situation! dunno

Obesity

His wife told me last night (while loading his power wheelchair up onto the carrier on the back of their vehicle; it's not easy to load up either) that his doctor had advised him to see a psychologist/psychiatrist (I'm not really sure what the difference is)... but he won't go. She says he just gets angry and clams-up at the very mention of getting counseling or gastric bypass surgery. I can't figure it. dunno

How can somebody so smart be so dumb?

- Michael

Obesity

I have a friend who is morbidly obese. We belong to the same R/c flying club.

When we 1st met at a club meeting some 4 years ago, he was walking with a cane... now though, he's so heavy he has to use a wheelchair full time. Last summer he got so bad that his legs were becoming paralyzed... they rushed him into emeregency back surgery to prevent 2 disks in his lower spine from bursting! He's a smart guy, has a wife and 4 sons (all grown), but he just cannot control his eating habits cannot lose the weight that's killing him and will not undergo gastric bypass surgery! His wife can only barely help him to transfer from the wheelchair to a seat or bed now, and it's getting harder every year on her.

Due to his excessive weight, my friend has diabeties and high blood pressure... he cannot stand because his knees cannot support his almost 1/4 ton weight (yes, he's almost 500lbs!). He's in pain constantly from his weight, often he can't even tell that he needs to urinate until it's too late... and still, he will not even consider gastric bypass surgery. frustrated

At some point in the near future I expect that due to his extreme weight and the diabeties they're going to have to start amputating limbs starting with his legs... why on earth won't this man get over himself and get the gastric bypass surgery? Surely he doesn't ENJOY living like this! Once his wife becomes unable to help him transfer to and from the wheelchair, he's going to become completely locked in his bed... he's going to die a really ugly death the way he's going, yet nobody not his wife nor his sons can convince him to do what it necessary to lose weight!

What do you do with somebody like this?

We had a club meeting last night, and for the 1st time in a year (since the emergency back surgery he had to have early last summer) he attended the meeting with his wife's help... but trying to get back from his chair into his vehicle after the meeting, he almost was unable to make it and nearly collapsed to the ground under his weight (we put the power wheelchair right up against the vehicle's passenger side seat, less than 1 foot apart, for him to "slide" over to the seat and he could only just make it). It's sickening to watch him, I swear... I do not see how his wife manages to deal with it anymore.

In the 4 or so years I've known him, he's gone from walking with a cane (to help support his weight) to rolling around in a power wheelchair (which he can only barely manage to get into or out of now)... at times, I almost wish I didn't know him anymore. He has a serious problem that is only getting worse, there are treatments available that can very probably save his life, and yet he refuses to have the surgery... what the heck do you do with somebody like this? dunno

Can't force him to undergo the treatment, but who really wants to watch somebody killing themselves by refusing a treatment that could save his life? dunno

The last time, before last night, that he was at a club meeting everybody wanted to go out to eat afterwards at Denny's and my friend ordered a double cheeseburger with fries AND an extra bowl of gravey for his fries... the man is morbidly obese, cannot stand or MOVE really, has no way of burning off those calories EVER, and he's getting extra bowls of gravey for his fries? I'm active, pretty fit, and wouldn't even CONSIDER eating like that! Geeez! It was about a month later that he had to be rushed into surgey because he could not feel anything below his chest... wonder why? mumbling

I'm just clueless what to do with this guy, I swear. So is his wife and their sons, they're all sick of his weight problem and his refusal to get treatment that will reduce his weight. dunno
