RE: did you like your first car/bike/vehicle?

I still have mine... a 1978 Camaro Z/28 black with T-tops. Got it when I was a Junior in high school back in 1987. Still nice and shiney and parked under my carport beside the jetboat. It's no longer a daily driver (I have a pickup truck for everyday now), I only use the Camaro to tow the jetboat to the lake.

RE: Mr. Obama shame on you.........................

In President Bush's and our own defense however, we were grieviously attacked in the 1st year of President Bush's term and the "sleeping giant" awoke. As a nation, we were well within our rights to go into Afghanistan and take out the Taliban who were providing safe haven to Al Queda, and we had good reason to seek out Al Queda anywhere and everwhere they tried to hide and destroy them! very mad

But of course then President Bush lied to the American people and the world, claiming Iraq was the real threat with their "weapons of mass destruction" and he turned our nation onto the wrong path invading Iraq (mostly unilaterally) under false pretence... for that, I predict history won't look favorably on his Presidency!

Not that Saddam and Son's didn't deserve it mind you! But America had no legitimate reason to give it to them. I too was all for invading Iraq intially, until we had full control of Iraq and month after month passed without a single "weapon of mass destruction" being found there... then Secretary of State Collin Powell resigned and the deceptions started to unravel. Later Powell did a very telling interview a little while later, saying how upset he was when he learned the administration had sent him to the United Nations to make our case for invading Iraq with false information... very mad

So anyways, what started off on the right foot went terribly wrong IMHO. Even though President Bush was from my state, I hold it against him and his administration for lying to us all... but history will be the ultimate judge.

9/11 set the tone though of our nation for most of this decade. You need to keep that in mind!

RE: Mr. Obama shame on you.........................

Interesting that a recent poll reported on ABC National News the other day showed that President Obama has a 59% approval rating overall (+ or - 2%)...

His Health Care approval rating was 49%... not great really, but considering how much propaganda has been injected into the health care debate by people and companies who stand to have their profits decreased, this is hardly a suprise to me. If you're going to cut health care costs, somebody's going to see their profit margins drop at least a little and they're going to fight it tooth and nail as a result. Profit's are more valuable than lives, obviously. frustrated

This letter posted by the OP though is terribly offensive to most American's I'd hazard to guess, given that President Obama has that 59% overall approval rating! very mad

Overall, though I didn't vote for President Obama, I do approve of his job in office for the past 9 months so far... he's not perfect, but so far he hasn't granted amnesty to 10+ million illegal aliens in our country and he hasn't started any new wars in foreign countries and my taxes haven't gone up any so... I can't find any actual serious fault with his performance. Could do worse.

RE: Mr. Obama shame on you.........................

It's a chain letter put out by the Republican Party... I got that in my e-mail over a week ago already! Big deal, NOT.

What do you expect from the party of the sore-loser and
hypocrit? rolling on the floor laughing

I too resent that it's signed "Every Real American"... that's the biggest lie yet! Evidentally the author thinks that only Republican's are "Real American's" I guess, and that's why they aren't in the majority in Congress and don't have their man in the White House! Republican's lost big time in 2008 because of themselves.

The way the Republican's are conducting themselves, they won't have a chance when the 2012 elections arrive I swear. I've never voted Democrat in the past, but I sure WILL never vote Republican now or in the future! This sorta crap isn't the way to win votes. doh

The only good looking, hot, fit gals I ever saw at the Bally's Gym I used to go to (to play racquetball) where there with their husbands/boyfriends. It was NOT a good place to meet single gals at all unfortunately. Plenty of single guys there, virtually no single gals though.

RE: boy in balloon

They said on the news tonight that the balloon was big enough to lift a small child, but I find that hard to believe. I'd be suprised if it could have lifted as much as 5lbs. It just wasn't that big of a balloon honestly!

And I can't imagine how anybody could have thought the kid was inside the balloon, didn't anybody notice that the bottom is sealed shut? There's no way to get inside the thing to begin with! confused

I'd bet it was a hoax for publicity. Convienent he was recording everything when the balloon unexpectedly got away... and interesting to note that after calling the FAA, he immediately called the local news station and THEN he called 911! What does that tell you? thumbs down

RE: Is Arnold Schwarzenegger getting power hungry?

It takes more than just a State Governor to get a state law passed... apparently alot of the legislaters in California must have agreed to pass that law on ammunition, silly though it sounds.

And as you said, people will just drive to neighboring states to purchase ammo in bulk, so nothing is really accomplished by that law anyhows... ergo, why stress over it?

If California voters don't like it, they know how to vote against all encumbants and replace them. dunno

I'm pretty sure all the states need a complete replacement of their elected officials... everytime anybody get's a boo-boo, the blasted state legislature's rush to pass a law to make something else illegal!

How about requiring all laws to have expiration dates, such that they have to be renewed every so many years... give the elected officials something to do besides think up new ways to micro-manage the citizens lives! That really is the underlying problem you know, every politician wants to introduce a new bill to become law that makes something illegal so they can claim they DID something during their term in office as justification for asking to be re-elected! mumbling

Eventually the current system of adding laws on top of laws is going to lead to anarchy. You cannot micro-manage life for Pete's Sake!

RE: Boy Thought To Be In Runaway Balloon

Some people really shouldn't breed... yawn

Ok make that MOST people shouldn't breed! But I digress.

There's no way that balloon had the capacity to lift more than 5 lbs or so... a 6 year old kid, no way ever! Couldn't somebody with some brains have realized that early on? The bottom of the balloon was even sealed shut it looked like to me, so how could any kid have been inside it? Silly silly silly all the way around. mumbling

I remember an episode of MythBusters where they tried to figure out how many helium balloons it'd take to lift a 5 year old... I don't think they ever managed to get the 5 year old (stand in manican) more than a few inches off the ground. It was funny. This was ridiculous though!

RE: Health Care in the US

I'm hardly poor, yet $800 or more a month just for health insurance premiums is too big a chunk of my monthly income... I could be buying a 2nd house for that much a month! $200 or so a month I could and would pay gladly... but that's not where health insurance premiums are at these days and they're only going higher.

So I haven't had health insurance now in 4 or 5 years. What am I supposed to do, just die if I get sick? help

My mother is just barely managing to make a $1200 a month health insurance premium now (5 years ago it was only around $600), and if it keeps going up (and that's what it's doing!) what then?

You don't have to be poor to be unable to afford health insurance or health care in this country, and there'in lies the problem.

I'm paying more and higher taxes than ever before this year, yet what do I get for that money? Hundreds of Billions in foreign aid given to other countries? Oh that's just Prime! mumbling

You who are so angry at the thought of Americans being given anything, why is it ok to give Billions to Pakistan and India and Israel, 100's of Millions to The Palestinians, but not insure there is affordable accessible health care for every American citizen? I think you guys have your priorities all messed up! scold

Why do we give so very much money to countries that can afford active nuclear weapons programs, yet I'm told we can't afford health care reform? Come'on, explain this to me I'm all ears!

RE: Russian woman

I got another one just yesterday... said she was from Florida, but currently in South Africa caring for her sick mother. Like I haven't heard THAT one a thousand times already.

The thing is though, it took 5 days of messaging BEFORE she got to the "I'm actually in South Africa caring for my sick mother" part... I kept asking how the weather was over there in Florida, and kept getting no answer... the scammer had no idea, obviously. mumbling

It's very annoying and frustrating is all. They lead you on for days. I have no idea why they keep running these scams, I guess somebody must ultimately fall for it and send them money IDK. dunno

RE: is the threat of nuclear war greater now, than in the cold war era?

If some smaller countries decided to host and give safe haven to a terrorist group that attacks a certain superpower... you betcha! It'd suck to be them! scold

- Michael

RE: is the threat of nuclear war greater now, than in the cold war era?

There's only 1 such airborne laser weapon, a prototype mounted to the nose of a 747 jumbo jet the US Air Force has been testing. The thing is huge, taking up most of the plane's vast inner spaces with support equipment... it isn't going to be on any fighter jet anytime soon!

I doubt there's much threat of a nuclear war, but I'm pretty positive there is a very large threat of a nuclear incident occurring! Terrorist groups have never had as much access to nuclear components as they have today... there's nuclear material unaccounted for all over the Asian continent, and it's only a matter of time before the right combination of components fall into terrorist hands. Al Queda wouldn't hesitate to set off a nuclear device in a western major city, since there's no 1 place they can call "home" that would be vulnerable to retaliation... the threat of retaliation is what kept the cold war cold for all those years! Whithout a home base and population to risk, there's no reason for terrorist groups not to detonate such a device... it's only a matter of time I suspect.

RE: FOR PALESTINE

Where do you get that?

I mean I'd be happy as a lark if the Israelies and Palestinions blew each other into extinction! That's the only way there will ever be peace in the Middle East, if both sides wipe each other out. Till then, they're going to continue killing each other's small children and pointing fingers at each other claiming "You killed our children 1st!!!". As an American, I've had my fill of that mess. It's just not that important, they're just not that important IMHO.

- Michael

RE: FOR PALESTINE

Sorry, I just never went back to that thread to see where it'd gone.

I'm not sure on the timing, but President Obama was not silent on the brutality going on over there during your demonstrations.... he condemned the violence pretty much like everybody else did at the time. What else can a foreign leader do without making matters even worse? dunno

It often feels like everybody in the world wants America to fix their problems... the Palestinians want America to make Israel give them the country they want. I'd like to see the world try to solve some of it's own problems for a change... cause we're damned if we do, and damned if we do not. confused
