It would be far more beneficial that raw materials are kept within your own borders and support your own home production - this way you can maximise your own economic activity with the same base of material. This protectionist stance on raw materials makes even more sense when you consider that the supply of many raw materials is dwindling globally.
Depends if that country will be buying your exports? It's very doubtful that the rising economies in the east will require imports from the West - why would they when they can produce domestically, both more efficiently and at less cost? Couple this with the fact that the new generation of Oriental intellectuals and technical people are superior to our own, then as sure as soon enough they won't need our education and technology neither, and with this we'll be almost completely frozen out of their markets.
So anyone who believes we can rely on the East as economic partners has not really thought it through.
Hey Leigh, it's all the worse when you consider that despite this your economy is still flatlining(or thereabouts), which is a worry. Still, at least it's pissing the Chinese off, so not all bad news.
It's hard to say what may happen, this uprising has failed to capture the support of the Egyptian poor - it's a rich kids movement - and if the Democracy that(may)come about fails to tackle the economic woes of Egypt, or indeed makes them worse, then you could very easily be looking at a fundamentalist future or another militarist police state.
For thousands of years mankind has raised children, why would there now be a need for 'education'?
As for old school methods, what merit does modern British society have to criticise the traditional? Have you seen our economy? Have you seen our city streets? Drugs? Binge drinking? The dispossessed white working class, we sneeringly call "chavs"? Have you ever been to a council estate? Are you aware of our rate of literacy? - where business is even complaining that we produce graduates that can not even spell.
Why do you support 60's esque, dated ethics that have only brought failure to these shores? Sure they sound very nice and lovely, but surely the state of things calls for a reality check?
Society today is the creation of the parent/older generation. If society today fails the younger generations, it can only be because the parent generation has failed society.

CS, to me, seems much more of a social filler in people's lives than it does a means to find love - I don't expect many on here to get to know each other in any more than the most superficial of ways, chemistry doesn't really enter into it.

This bombing could quite easily be a Muslim reprisal for all the anti-Muslim protests going on across Russia of late - the NatBol's being particularly vicious. The Russian protests make the European protests look small fry, inevitably there would be a backlash.
You only need to look at European media today - and how increasingly Anti-zionist it is, to be shown what the populists think about Zion. Many people do feel incredibly sorry for the Palestinians and in my experience more so than they do for the Jews of Israel, especially amongst my generation, the one that ultimately counts.
I actually disagree with SB much of the time, I'm more pro-Zion than not and I prefer the average Jew to the average Muslim - but aside from my political views, I just don't like seeing the individual being pushed around by the herd.

Me personally, and seen as you're referring to a thread about politics, I'd expect alot of lies and mistruths anyway. Infact I might even find it reassuring - if I'd caught them lying, then they mustn't be very good at it.
The kind of people in your tea party movement would wipe the floor with 'em. Not saying it would come to that, but if things keep getting worse, then you'd probably not be that far away from it.
The Left of today is far too bourgeois for that, and the bourgeois rarely fight for anything as they have too much to lose - just look at which kind of people fight your wars for you.
