RE: Land Of Milk&Honey?.....But The Milk Turned Sour.......

Liberalism is not a banner that attracts the strong, it is in its own nature pacifistic and weak.. It's of no surprise to me that Arab Liberals lose to Islamists just like European Liberals do so.

I was always hoping that at best the Arab spring would yield an array of somewhat better military/Stalinist dictators than was there before. This, despite what we see in the vid, is still possible.

RE: Sad but true

And you do hear some Libertarians who sound like Anarchists, some that almost sound like hippies, and others that sound Republicans.

The only constant I do see in the implementation of Libertarianism in politics is that social attitudes are junior to economic attitudes.

RE: Sad but true

In terms of economics, I don't hold one particular view, that's right. One sector of industry doesn't warrant the same attitude from politics as the next. There is no universal economic politic in my opinion.

RE: Sad but true

Nothing, but it is allowing concessions to be made to those of lower means, afforded by those of higher means.

RE: Sad but true

There's a hundred different splinters of Libertarianism, what's yours?

RE: Sad but true

I agree with your approach, but tax relief for those less well off essentially demands those who earn do take more of the burden. So it's impossible to make it as "fair" a fair tax as it may sound, if you get me.

RE: Sad but true

Some do say, it's better to give than receive. I don't think everybody begrudges paying tax when tax money goes to a good cause.

Aside from that, you'd have to lower all tax down to a percentage the poor could afford, and I don't see how you'd finance a modern state within such meagre means. Obviously, you being a Libertarian wouldn't mind this, but I think you'd have anarchy or revolution on your hands if this were to happen, especially when the private sector is performing so poorly, the scale of chaos could be unimaginable.

RE: Sad but true

Ok, mate. I've got a tendency for babbling. laugh

RE: Sad but true

Oh it does get taxed, it's already been taxed through the business, but it is less than your personal income tax would of been.

RE: Sad but true

I agree, we should close the loopholes.

The greater problem though, as I see it, is that business is too closely tied to the international system of trade(the city). Which de facto holds no loyalty to any nation, it effectively plays nations against one another for corporate/individual gains.

If what was profitable in the West was factories and production, as opposed to banks and stocks, we could hold the business sector accountable to the community because we'd hold the means of production(the lifeblood of productive business)within the Nation, and so tax it fairly and ensure proper conduct.

In banking, you just can't do this, as we have seen. The banker will happily spin us all a lie, get fat in the mean time, then laugh at us when it all collapses, then they laugh even harder when we go crawling back to them like we are doing now. These vermin need stamping on.

RE: Sad but true

Receive**

RE: Sad but true

Essentially that is what i'm saying, you run yourself as a company; and say that company earns $100.000 in a year, you may pay yourself $15.000 of that in a wage and the remainder you recieve as an effective bonus, if you like.

It means that not one $ made recieves the top rate of income tax.

RE: Sad but true

And I agree with you, I do actually pay all the tax I should be paying, and I do so because my Dad was a steelworker. But I notice it a lot amongst young professionals, we seriously resent how the super-rich behave, and how they're sapping the middle as well as screwing the bottom. The attitude of "if they can do it then so can we" is creeping in.

RE: Sad but true

Here we call it capital gains tax. In the UK business tax is lower than the top rate of personal income tax (20% to 40%).

What is America's tax on business compared to the personal income tax? - which I gather will change depending on how much you earn?

RE: Sad but true

Oh yea, I'm not saying it's a very moral way of doing things. It's just an example of how it can be done, legally.

I know you'll find a lot of skilled people that will do this, especially when we have the super rich swanning off to Switzerland and Monaco to avoid paying their due entirely.

RE: Sad but true

I'm not suggesting cheating on tax returns. I'm explaining how you can circumvent the system, if you're clever.

RE: Sad but true

No, business profit is not subject to income tax.

But, the business is just you.

Effectively it means you pay a lower rate of tax on the money you make, with no need to lie about how much money there is made to begin with. It's perfectly legal.

Anybody who contracts themselves would do this if they were sharper in the head.

RE: Sad but true

#4 set just yourself up as a limited company and set yourself a meagre wage as the director, thus only ever paying Capital gains tax on business profts, then as the director, collect the profits. That's the way to do it.

RE: Feeling Vulnerable

Women don't need words to understand emotions, they can read much in people without the spoken word. Which is why Women often "tell" you how they feel, without literally telling you how they feel.

But you're right, this keener awareness, compassion and empathy that is inherent to Women does on the flipside make them more fragile and vulnerable. Just calling Women vulnerable though will promote a vulnerable response - being defensive.

RE: HOORAY; TEA PARTIES AND CAPITALISM ARE GREAT BUT ARE THEY WORKING FOR AMERICANS?

As far as I can gather, and listening to some Tea Party folk, they'd be happy building a giant wall around America(metaphorically speaking) and building a free market - for America alone.

No Socialism, no outsourcing to peasant labor, and an economic system that places the national interest above the foreign.

RE: the WORLDS WORST RECORD

Isn't it just laugh

That was the first single I ever bought, and on cassette of all things. Awful scenes!

RE: which age group of men do you think treats women better?

I'd say old Men. It can take a Woman years to trample over a Man's spirit.

RE: the WORLDS WORST RECORD

Flat Beat - Mr Oizo

RE: why older women dont accept young guy?

Because older people only believe the cliche that is "age is just a number" when they have something to gain from it.

RE: Paris allows women wearing trousers?

Discretion. Without it you could say that not following any law to the letter is justification for not following any laws at all.

RE: Why do we smoke ?

For me, it's a cross between restlessness and the severe dislike of nursing homes.

RE: RIP Amy Winehouse...

It's sad, but not exactly what you'd call a surprise. I suppose there's only so long one can survive looking like a neglected horse before it catches up on you.

RE: What teens want today?

A sense of direction, purpose and hope for the future.

Even the most apathetic of young people are still vaguely aware of how bad the future looks from here. So, with this in mind i'm not surprised many just "live for today" as it were, following that ever popular, ever tiresome cliche that did NOT begin with today's teens.

Young people are merely out-doing their parents in how to be backward, irresponsible, slothful and spoilt wrecks.

RE: The Aura of Female Mystery as it Relates to Communication

Women are better at getting a "feel" for something, their subconscious is more attuned to picking up subtle details than a Man's is - on average. This gives them greater intuition.

They've studied this effect in tests and from just a picture of someone's eyes, a Woman can tell the emotional state of the person in the picture with far greater accuracy than a Man, meaning they have subtler perceptions than we do. So a Man needs words to perceive things around him where a Woman may not. This would seem mysterious, but it's just biology.
