RE: Recycling in the home

I don´t agree about re-using cooking oil after reading something many years ago about a toxin being released which causes a number of serious illnesses including cardiovascular disease so I´ve never done so. I also only use olive oil for cooking and which I drizzle on toast instead of butter.

I think it can be done safely a couple of times but it depends on the smoking point of the oil so you have to be very careful.

This extract from an article about cooking oils is quite interesting.

Spanish researchers found that people whose kitchens contained any type of oil that had been reused many times over were more likely to have high blood pressure than people whose cooking oils were changed more frequently.
People who ate foods cooked with sunflower oil also showed a higher risk of high blood pressure, while consuming more olive oil appeared to protect people from high blood pressure.

Based on the findings, study author Dr. Federico Soriguer of the Hospital Civil Plaza in Malaga recommends that people cook with olive oil whenever possible, and discard any oils after using them up to two or three times.

When oil is repeatedly reheated, the oils begin to degrade, releasing substances known as polymers and polar compounds that can become absorbed by food.

Olive oil that had been repeatedly reused tended to show a lower concentration of polymers and polar compounds than other types of oil, suggesting that olive oil degrades more slowly than other types.

RE: Can Long distance relationships really work???

I had you in mind with my previous post. Hope you don't mind me saying that. wave

RE: Can Long distance relationships really work???

rolling on the floor laughing No, you can't convince me Ven. I only have to look at what I've seen here in over 5 years to know for sure that it just isn't plausible.

I can say though that those who did finally get together after mailing etc..only one or two that is.....then eventually broke up within a couple of years or less, have made me feel rather sad.

I really don't think online dating is what it's cracked up to be, and despite the fact that, in your words which I like btw, close up relationships fail too, I don't think they do for the same reasons.

RE: Can Long distance relationships really work???

Well let's be sensible for a moment. Girls (as you say)and boys, without responsibilities can very easily pack up and move to be with someone in another country, though dating sites aren't populated in the main with young people thankfully.

Most people here are older women and men who often have huge responsibilities and barriers of different sorts which prevent them from moving.

I received a long apparently heartfelt message today from someone younger than my son who lives in Australia. For goodness sake, what on earth could that ever lead to even if I did prefer younger men and chose to write to him?

RE: God made men & women to complement each other

Stereotyping, but as always with stereotypes a pinch of truth. laugh

RE: AM I GOOD LOOKING ladys?

Why are you asking this question Pedro_ And why do people set themselves up for flak by posting such questions.

Look, some will say yes, and that's clearly what you want to read, but some will say no. Most of those who think no will be too polite to say, so the question is silly really isn't it. dunno

Have a bit more confidence and pride in yourself.

RE: This is for mothers

No dfferent at all for me when I had my second baby, and the same for most women I would think.

That's the strength of mother love.

RE: we are so ingenius we can land on the moon!!

Ah but did we, or they should I say, really land on the moon? dunno laugh

RE: is there people to shy to post on the forums

Perhaps some are too shy, but I've met a few and they certainly were not shy so I think most of those who don't post on the forums are actually here to meet people, in the true spirit of a dating site, unlike many of us who use the forums.

RE: This is for mothers

It's an unbeliecble feeling of mixed emotions...indescribable really to those who have never experienced it. Such a rush of love, and sheer disbelief that this precious little bundle is yours forever.

That feeling never goes away either which is the most wondrous thing.

RE: Can Long distance relationships really work???

Of course it does. Life just isn't so simple.

Who really wants to waste an inordinate length of time wrting lovey dovey messages to someone a million miles away. It can work in a minute number of cases, and as others have said when one is willing to move, but even then there are problems like finding work, cultural differences etc etc, and I've seen longish online relationships here still fail eventually after they've finally got together.

I've been here on and off for a few years now, more than most here at the present time, and there have been very very few successful relationships formed. If you balance that with the number of members it's not too promising is it.

CS initially pulls most people in for the possibility of meeting someone, but it maintains its long standing members who know the score in general through the forum banter.

That was proven not so long ago when people were fretting about the forums disappearing and saying they would leave if that happened.

So, no I would say, long distance relationships do not work for the vast majority, but some still hold out hope, and they may just be one of the few lucky ones. handshake

RE: is it all about looks or whats inside?

I prefer this one

My mother phones me most days and always says have you met anyone? I tell her I´m not bothered and it´s true, but why do our well meaning family and hooked up friends ask this same old question. My single friends ask me much more pertinent and interesting questions. laugh

I´m going to buy a dog, then I can honestly say yes I´m connected. rolling on the floor laughing

RE: is it all about looks or whats inside?

Is that unachievable though? dunno I find it more so as I get older, or maybe I´m more choosy now. laugh

Frankly speaking I´m starting to believe nobody is good enough hence the reason I´m single I guess. laugh

RE: Best TV Adverts From Around The World

The IKEA ads are ace. My fave at the moment is this one.

I teach English at IKEA here in Spain and they love this ad too.

RE: R.I.P Pete Postlethwaite

thumbs up I was very sad to read of his death this morning and only 64 years old. Steven Spielberg described hom as the greatest actor ever. I loved his work and the characters he played. blues

RE: is it all about looks or whats inside?

Of course it´s all about looks, initially at least, for both men and women, but, and I´ve said this before many times here, we all have different tastes so everybody should get a look in at the end of the day.

As you imply though, looks may be the first attraction, but the staying power goes much deeper.

RE: would you ever consider being a polygamist

Hmmm, you´ve obviously thought about this in great depth. laugh

RE: People who wear glasses or used to wear .....

Yes, I´ve read many stories about the negative aspects of surgery such as this. The future ramifications of laser eye surgery is also under hot debate.

I´m very interested in this as I´ve had to wear glasses since I was a very young child, although I wear soft contact lenses now most of the time, but I really don´t think I want my eyes messed about with regardless of the perceived benefits. I also quite like my trendy glasses now, unlike when I was a child, even though I rarely wear them in public.

RE: would you ever consider being a polygamist

rolling on the floor laughing That would be a nightmare!

In reply to the OP, no, if I want to be serious with a man then he is the only one for me, and I would expect vice versa.

It´s hard enough trying to establish and maintain a happy and fulfilling relationship with one person. Why make life even more difficult with multiple partners?

This arrangement is much more often adopted by men in some cultures. I wonder why? laugh

RE: Where do you keep your mobile....while on the move...

laugh Me too, and I hardly ever get to answer the call in time after scrambling through everything to retrieve the damn thing. mumbling wave
