THE LITTLE VIOLET

Far-Far away in a dark forest so deep
A little violet awoke from its long winter’s sleep
Slowly lifting its head up towards the sky
To see all the migrating birds fly by

Thinking and wishing wistfully at times sighing
To be a bright yellow beautiful dandelion
Basking in the lovely warm sunshine
Instead of in the deep dark shade of the pine

To be bold and out in the open for all to see
Instead hiding in the forest under all the trees
Then suddenly it heard a great powerful noise
Peeking out it saw a machine pushed by a boy

Moving across a lawn cutting all in its path
And suddenly the little violet was feeling very glad
That it was in the forest hid away from all
As it watched the beautiful yellow dandelions fall

THE SHELF

Placed away on a shelf out of sight
In the darkness – not a speck of light
Only taken out once or twice a year
Hanging around to always be near

The years go by one by one the same
Sitting there hid as though in shame
Only taken out in the dark of night
To be still hidden even in full sight

As time passes by waiting there
Worn – ragged – with lots of tears
No longer waiting but resigned despair
Knowing eventually the time will be near

Again the time comes to bring out to see
But behold - no longer there – now free
Gone forever – not sitting there
Reaching out – but meeting nothing but air.

STARS IN MY SOUL

My soul belongs to the Stars and Heavens
It is captured inside this earthly abode
It struggles like a bird to be free
So that it can fly carefree to its star home

Not meant to be weighed down here
It strives to be happy and carefree
Needing to join in with the stars above
Where it is free to twinkle for eternity

Free to follow its dream without any care
To do what ever it wants without fear
For my soul was born in the Stars above
It yearns to return to twinkle with love

SILENT SENTRIES

I salute you as I walk by
Silent and still against the sky
Day after day all through the year
Standing tall and without fear

Through the hot sun of day
Standing in your dress green or gray
And the cool dew of night
Greatly admiring your height

Through winter and frosty times
And the crisp cold sunshine
Glittery swirling snow all around
Or the dead stillness not making a sound

Very impressive I must say
Looking at you as I walk by each day
Handsome - silent - appealing to see
Only swaying slightly in a breeze

I'll always see you as I walk by
As you stand highlighted against the sky
Guarding over the park each day
Watching everyone walk and play

HEART FEELINGS

HEART FEELINGS

Can love be dangerous to your health
Taking deeply to heart all that is felt
Year after year absorbing these feelings
Keeping them hid and not revealing

Years of the stress and pain
Absorbing the shocks again and again
Like earthquake waves rolling inside
With no way to release other than cry

The feeling of being shutout and alone
Dealing day to day with the unknown
Trying to smile and be normal to others
When inside loneliness always hovers

Worrying and helping those you love
Holding inside what your feelings are
What happens when you feel too much
Can your heart give out from such

Can the heart take the continuous beating
Without harm being done from all the feelings
No one can be sure if this can be true
It’s something I think about – do you?

MY SOULMATE

Mine heart and spirit doth weep
For its soulmate it doth seek
Ages and ages it hath roamed
Seeking for its forever earthly home

Always being hid in the dark
Wishing for its love upon the stars
The moon comes and leaves again
And the sun shines and sets on the glen

Fog hides the shadows by night
While dewdrops glitter in the morning light
Like little diamonds and pearl strings
Delicate and lacy like butterfly wings

Waiting and waiting for the one to come
The one and only true love
The pain at times more than I can bear
Heart aching and eyes wet with tears

Forever being told when the time is right
When the stars are aligned in the night
I will know when I will see my loved one’s face
That my heart and soul is in the right place

OUTSIDE LOOKING IN

Standing on the outside looking in
Still a stranger after all these years
Of striving to become a friend
Realizing things are not as they appear

Like a wallflower at a dance
Standing on the sidelines hoping
Staring at others as in a trance
But instead with sadness and coping

Going away to lick the wounds
Of disappointment as once again ignored
Moving off to a different room
Striving for emotions to be restored

When all else fails slipping far away
To escape the rejection once again
To come back and try another day
Striving once again to become friends

WHITE PICKET FENCE

Just a small wee cottage for me please
With wind chimes blowing in a gentle breeze
Rainbows of roses climbing a white picket fence
For me a mansion doesn’t make sense

With gorgeous colorful flowers around
Birds singing a glorious sound
Butterflies kissing flowers with promises of love
Oh what a wondrous place it will be above

Garden paths of precious stones shining
Dripping rubies, emeralds and diamonds
Even the raindrops made of jewels
Glistening rainbows of magical pools

Sound of crystal water running cold
Moving in ribbons of blue, silver and gold
Beautiful green lawns and flowering trees
The most wondrous sight ever seen

No not a mansion for just me
I wish for a wee little cottage please

If I

If I should die tomorrow
Weep tears of joy – not sorrow
For I will be with my Father above
Basking in his unconditional love

Walking the streets of silver and gold
I am no longer wrinkled and old
But moving easily and pain free
Do not worry about me

I am with loved ones who have gone before
Thus separated by death no more
It is so wonderful and beautiful here
You too will see it yourself my dear

We will see each other again
Live your life knowing that you too will ascend
Until then be happy and carefree
Your guardian angel is watching over thee

MOM'S 80th BIRTHDAY

Mom is 80 years old today
So I would like to take this time to say
She has had quite a fulfilling life
Even though some of it was not without strife

Back in the 30’s entered the depression
But being thrifty proved to be a very good lesson
During the 40’s WWII came around
She was an enemy plane spotter and took care of her son

Along came the 50’s with 2 more kids to raise
But with this added challenge to her it didn’t seem to phase
In the 60’s all her children graduated from High School
The boys were off to College and I became a work mule

The 70’s and early 80’s were rough years indeed
But she managed to pull us all through with a positive lead.
Now the 90’s and early 2000’s have been the best years yet
With many more to come so let us not forget

She maybe 80 years old and has become a little slow
But this little lady is the same Mom we all love and know

DEALING WITH A LOSS

How did you deal with your grief and fear
When you lost someone so close and dear
I’ve been asked this question time and again
There is no easy way to deal with that pain

You put one foot in front of the other is what I say
Trying to get through each minute, hour and day
Breaking down frequently does occur
As you face the future with your fear

Fear of never seeing that face maybe forever
Grief is not a timed schedule endeavor
Some struggle with it for years and years
While others go on after a brief time of tears

There is no way that one can prepare
Even with a lot of faith and prayer
Your life changes and will never be the same
A new normal will develop through all the pain

About this poem:
Someone whose mother is in her 90's keeps asking me how I dealt with the death of my mother. You don't - you just go on the best you can. August 5th will be the 9th Anniversary of my mother's death.

You can grief also at a lost love or other losses in your life as well.

I get comfort through writing my poems as well as my faith and - of course my CS poet friends!

GOD'S CREATIONS

God created the Universe so perfect and right
Looking up at night at all the star lights
Billions and trillions of stars have developed since time began
And the Universe continues to grow with no end

Not only does God keep track of each individual star in the sky
He can also count each hair on the head of you and I
Stop and think how powerful He must be
Yet His Love is endless for you and me

At times when I’m having a bad day
I have to stop and remind myself and say
Thank God for His Love and Grace
Don’t get so discouraged with such haste

So when I’m frustrated, down and out
I need to remind myself what the Universe is about
Both of us are part of God’s Eternal creation
It will go on and on for all future generations
