Twin Towers - A Tale of Two Rails

Underneath two of the tallest buildings in the world
We were a part of an extensive piece of rail
People coming and going – busy everyday
We were proud to be part of the world trade

It started out as a beautiful September day
The sky was blue and clear – not grey
Suddenly there was a tremendous roar
Then an explosion that shook every floor

The sound of the fire was deafening and loud
People were running down the stairs and out
Meanwhile firemen and policemen came in
Heroically risking their lives for all those within

Suddenly another roar hit the second one
Both were burning with heat hot as the sun
We saw horrible sights and will never forget
Terrorists had hijacked and hit them with 2 jets

Suddenly the Twin Towers caved in – all the floors
We were buried underneath listening in horror
Then there was a deathly quiet for a long time
Until the rescuers came searching through the grime

We were moved to an island and carefully stored
Thinking we were not a part of the towers any more
Sad and lonely we sat for 15 long years
Remembering each year the fear and crying tears

Now we are in the sunshine in this quiet peaceful place
We now sit on top of this beautiful granite base
To remind the visitors who come to never forget
The day that terrorists came and posed a threat

Others have also since loss their lives each day
To keep us safe from terrorists come what may
We are here to say – We will never forget
We were part of the Twin Towers that we represent

About this poem:
9/11/2017 Update: The Memorial is still there with nothing changed. I changed the picture because last year when I took the picture it wasn't completed yet. Now the flag is flying high and proud over the monument! It is now the 16th Anniversary. This event affected me deeply as that is when I started writing poems. I had never written poetry at all or attempted. The emotions in me were so overwhelming that it started to spill out into words as a release of the pressure.

9/11/2016: My town is in the process of erecting a monument to the Twin Towers/World Trade Center, Pentagon and the flight that went down in Pennsylvania. This year is the 15th Anniversary of the attack on 9/11/2001. Highlight of the monument is the two rails that were underneath at Ground Zero. I watched them weld them to the top of the granite stones and became very emotional thinking about what they had been through. There is more going to be done on the monument and I will change the picture when it is completed.

THE BIG BANG

Scientists say the Universe started with a bang
With a force that caused matter to expand
It came out of nowhere is what they say
Formed our planet Earth & Universe as it is today

Really this energy and matter came from nowhere?
Just popped out of the blue they swear?
I have my own theory if anyone really cares
To blow theirs completely (pardon the pun) out of the air

The Universe is full of light with the suns and stars
Their energy gives off light for miles afar
Where did this source of energy and light come from
You know I will say from our Father above

It’s true – God is Good - God is Love – GOD IS LIGHT
No stars are needed in Heaven - that’s right
God is the Sun and the Son is the Lantern
God made the Universe and all its pattern

The source of the energy and light are from Him
He is the Universe and made all within
Our minds cannot understand how big and powerful He is
Even the highest IQ cannot comprehend a grain of this

People will ridicule my poem I’m sure
But does anyone else really know for sure
Think on it and see if you can do a better riddle
For I know the answer to it without a quibble

THE BLUE SHIELD

It’s my birthday today
But my Daddy had to be away
He’s out protecting other families
To keep them safe from tragedies

I miss him but yet I understand
I know the meaning of the blue band
Our family is special in a way
Because Daddy does special work everyday

He is the protector of all children like me
So they can run and play and be free
Free from fear and terrible things
He is a special Angel without wings

If He did have wings they would be blue
Like the shield He wears for the world to view
Mommy says we should pray to God for Daddy each day
That He will protect Daddy and the people He saves

Please thank my Daddy on His special day today
That He protects everyone as they go out and play
Please say a prayer for all blue shields and families everyday
To keep them safe always and keep danger at bay

MARCO POLO

Embedded image from another site

You came to my door as a stray
Moved into my home and heart to stay
12 Years have gone by so fast
Thinking of you today and of the past

Today you have gone to your final rest
Your pain and suffering gone at last
I will miss your bright whiskery face
Chasing through the house at a fast pace

The heavy weight on my legs or lap
Curling in a ball for a nap
Much more than just a cat to tend
For 12 years you were my best furry friend

So I lay you to rest today
Knowing I will see you on my Resurrection Day
Welcoming me with your furry face
Again laying on my lap in your favorite place

MOODS OF THE WIND

Blowing softly like an angel’s wing on my cheek
Oh that feels so lovely and sweet
Like a lover’s light kiss to my ear
Whistling softly sweet words of honey and dear

Roaring in anger and beating rain on me
Screeching and screaming loud as a banshee
Dark clouds looking like the end of the world
Racing across the sky in angry swirls

Brisk with crisp cold tones
Like a heart made out of stone
Dead still – not a sound at all
Silence making one feel very small

Playful swirling dirt in one’s face
Before moving on to another place
Racing around and around you go
Where you will stop no one will ever know

Wonder what your mood will be today
Angry - happy or just plain okay
Whichever mood it will be
I’m sure that you will always find me

MY SOUL'S SORROW

MY SOUL

My soul is weighed down in sorrow
For my loved one is not here for tomorrow
The days and nights blend together
In darkness the weight of a ton of feathers

Oh my soul cries a river of tears
And my heart quivers with fear
Of all the tomorrows to be alone
Facing the future and the unknown

O’ Lord please help me understand I pray
As to why my loved one was taken away
My soul wants to find peace from my sorrow
So that I may be able to face tomorrow

Please give me the strength to carry on
The courage to do what needs to be done
Please help me to accept your will
To know your Holy Spirit and to be filled

Open my eyes so that I might see
And feel your unconditional love for me
And that I might know when my journey is done
I will forever be in your arms and of Jesus - your Son

LADY IN WHITE

A gentle cool breeze blew across the water deep
Drifting over the white sandy beach
Up on a slight hill looking down at the waves
Then staring out at the horizon far away

She stood like a statute her white dress in the wind swayed
At a distance a certain wistful air about her played
What thoughts went through her mind to sadden her so
Were they memories of loves lost a long time ago

A hat shaded her expression so it was not clear
Just exactly if these memories brought tears
The sky was blue and the sun shone bright
Yellow flowers at her feet a beautiful sight

All the beauty around her but she still seemed sad
As the wind whipped her dress and tugged at her hat
Why couldn’t she see and be happy with the day
With all nature’s beauty around her displayed

How many times do we ignore nature’s gifts
Standing on our own ocean cliffs
Staring far in the distance horizon sky
Wanting and wishing for the past with a sigh

TRUE CHRISTMAS

Is a true Christmas really about Santa and Toys
Or is it about Angels singing with great Joy
Elves dressed up in bright clothes and tights
Three Wisemen following the Bethlehem starlight

Shopping elbow to elbow with strangers
Our Lord and Savior Jesus born in a manger
All about flying reindeer and sleighs
Or the promise of our sins being taken away

Lights, partying and food galore
Celebrating the coming of our Lord
A man dressed in red that’s a myth
God giving the World his greatest gift

Receiving a bunch of gifts and having fun
Thanking God for giving his only begotten Son
Is Christmas totally and completely material
Or about being forgiven and receiving Life Eternal

GOD'S LOVE

April 17, 2015

When we accept God, we accept Love
For He comes and dwells in our hearts
With His Joy and Happiness
To brighten all the days of our lives

When we accept His love, it extends to others
As a pure and bright selfless love
Sharing of ourselves, our joy and our happiness
His Spirit shines through to the world

Nothing here on earth
Can compare to His love
It is boundless and unlimited
To those who accept him in their hearts

Peace and the Love of God
Continue to Bless you in the years ahead
As you travel life's path
Basking in His love, joy and happiness

ALIVE AT 65

When I was age five
Fairy tales were still alive

Along came 15
Wow now I’m a teen

An aspiring adult at 25
Things are just coming alive

Not a young adult at 35
But still keeping my stride

Middle age at 45
Old age is a far cry

Oh dear now 55
Managing to still thrive

Today I will turn 65
Still here and am alive!

EMPTY SPACE

In my life lots of empty space
Forever missing that loving face
Empty spaces for the last seven years
Making for lots and lots of tears

In the car with an empty passenger seat
Always makes me want to weep
Looking at empty dining room chair
No longer seem able to eat there

Big piece missing in my heart
Memories seem never too far
Going everywhere all alone
Then returning to an empty home

Moonbow

Lightning flashed in the sky
Causing her to utter a frightened cry
Thunder followed with a roar
As the waves crashed upon the shore

It was night and very dark
She shook and her heart was beating hard
Feeling like a small child again
She could hear her heart over the wind

The storm began to wane
There was no more sound of rain
The clouds began to clear
Low on the horizon the moon appeared

But wait – there was a bright white arc in the sky
Looking up at the dark as a background with a sigh
She knew at once the arc was a white rainbow
Lighting up the sky with a bright white halo

Feeling blessed to have seen this rare gift
She went out and watched it from the cliff
Knowing she was no longer alone
For her Father’s love to her was shown
