Veteran CBS journalist Lesley Stahl told a story about President Donald Trump that likely surprised few
of her media colleagues at the Deadline Club Awards Dinner in New York on Monday evening.
According to Stahl, Trump told her that he continually “discredits” and “demeans” the press
for a very specific reason: to sow uncertainty about the media so that “no one will believe” negative stories about him.
The “60 Minutes” reporter recalled what happened when she and her boss met with the then president-elect
at Trump Tower after he eked out a surprise win in late 2016. Trump eventually started bashing the press in front of them.
“I said, ‘You know, that is getting tired. Why are you doing this? You’re doing it over and over.
It’s boring and it’s time to end that,’” Stahl recounted in a talk with Judy Woodruff of “PBS Newshour”
at the Deadline Club event, which honors excellence in journalism.
“And he said, ‘You know why I do it? I do it to discredit you all and demean you all so that when you write
negative stories about me, no one will believe you,’” she continued.
Stahl emphasized her amazement: “He said that.”

Last week Thursday 16th July 2015 my island home was shaken by earthquakes at 07:01am, 7:52am, 11:16am, 11:29am, 11:36am and 12:23pm local time. The strongest was felt around 11:16am and measured 6.4 on the Richter scale. Our office building just started shaking and swaying.
These earthquakes were reported felt throughout in Barbados, St. Vincent, Grenada, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. No damage or injuries were reported. Thank God!

On Thursday, July 23rd from 1:25am to 3:00am local time, a strong continuous signal was observed on instruments monitoring the Kick ‘em Jenny submarine volcano. Signs of elevated seismicity (earthquakes) began on 11th July and continue to present. For the period since the 11th July a total of more than 200 micro and small earthquakes, of varying magnitudes, have been recorded, with the largest, prior to the strong signal, less than magnitude 3.0.
ORANGE Highly elevated level of seismic and/or fumarolic activity or other unusual activity. Eruption may begin with less than twenty-four hours notice. - All regional governments alerted - Local radio stations in Grenada, St. Vincent, barbados and Trinidad placed on alert. - Public listens to local radio continuously for updates and visits the Seismic Research Unit website if possible.
RED Eruption is in progress or may begin without further warning. - Measurements within the exclusion zones as permitted by activity. - Aerial reconaissance whenever possible. - Vulnerable areas prepared for immediate evacuation. - All shipping stays 5km clear of summit (i.e. out of the first and second exculsion zones). - Public in all vulnerable zones should listen to local radio stations for updates.
We are currently still on Orange alert!

DUBAI/WASHINGTON
A U.S. journalist and three members of her camera crew were detained in Bahrain on Sunday, Reporters Without Borders said on Monday, urging Bahrain to release the four American citizens "rapidly and without harm."
In a statement, the group described Anna Day and her three colleagues as experienced journalists, who had most recently worked on virtual reality documentaries in Egypt and Gaza.
Earlier, Bahraini police said they had detained four foreign nationals on Sunday. Bahrain's interior ministry said in a statement the four were "suspected of offences including entering Bahrain illegally having submitted false information to border staff, and participating in an unlawful gathering."
The U.S. State Department said it was aware of reports that U.S. citizens had been arrested but declined further comment, citing privacy considerations.
A spokesperson for Day's family rejected any suggestion that the four were involved in any illegal behavior or non-journalistic activities.
The Arabic-language Mira'at al-Bahrain (Bahrain Mirror) said the four were detained in Sitra, a Shi'ite village east of Manama, on Sunday while covering clashes between local demonstrators and security forces.
The demonstration was meant to mark the fifth anniversary of widespread Arab Spring protests in 2011 mainly by Shi'ite Muslims demanding reforms and bigger share in government.
Those protests were put down violently by Bahrain security units with help from security forces from Gulf Arab states including Saudi Arabia. But the kingdom, where the U.S. Fifth Fleet is based, continues to see bouts of unrest, especially in villages where Shi'ites are a majority.
Day has reported in the Middle East, northern Africa, India, Brazil and Mexico and her work has been published in the New York Times, CNN, Al Jazeera English, Huffington Post, CBS, Daily Beast and other media.
