Truck Drivers Deserve a Little Extra Love These Days
Our truck drivers exemplify the drive that keeps our stores moving. We’ve always known this, but during these difficult and uncertain times, knowing we can count on them to continue to provide our stores, our communities and our families with what they need when they need it is even more reassuring. Their heroic efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. Our team members, customers and communities have rallied around these road warriors and shown their appreciation. Since we shared the story of one of our distribution centers providing meals for the over-the-road truck drivers who make deliveries there, we’ve heard even more stories from the road about ways our truck drivers are being honored. Here are a few stories that I wanted to share with you in the hopes they inspire you to show a little extra love to the truck drivers serving your community.

Meijer Truck Driver Gets Birthday Surprise

Don Pratt, a Meijer fleet driver for nearly 10 years, was driving down US-31 north of Muskegon, Mich. one morning in early April when a driver pulled up in the lane next to him and matched his speed. When he looked over, the driver rolled down their window to give him a thumbs up while the passenger cheered and applauded him out of their window.

Little did those customers know that their show of support would mean a little extra to Pratt on that day — his birthday. “It made me feel very proud to be a driver for Meijer,” Pratt said.

Those customers also couldn’t have known what a particularly outstanding driver they chose to applaud. As a veteran, Pratt helps Meijer support Wreaths Across America each December by delivering truckloads of wreaths for wreath-laying ceremonies at cemeteries across the country to honor fallen heroes. He is also an avid Cub Scout volunteer.

Team Members Make Goodie Bags for Delivery Drivers

Our truck drivers face challenging times as they travel across the Midwest without access to comforts such as dine-in restaurants. Knowing this, team members started making goodie bags for the drivers who deliver the products our customers need. For example, at one Meijer store in Kalamazoo, Mich., team members prepared goodie bags full of snacks, baked goods and energy drinks with a note of appreciation for the truck drivers delivering to their store.

Last week I read that Elon Musk donated ventilators to a New York hospital. I believe the quantity stated was 1,000 units.

Then I read it was 40 units and the hospital couldn't use the machines as they weren't ventilators, they were BiPAP (air pressure) machines used for obstructive sleep apnea.

Elon claimed he sent the exact specifications to the hospital. They confirmed they would be critical. He's now being criticized for sending BiPAP and not life-support ventilators.

Last week I did a blog about ventilators and CPAP/BiPAP machines as the FDA recently stated they could be substituted for ventilators if hospitals are facing shortages. Obviously the FDA and hospitals aren't on the same page.

From the sound of things, there appears to be confusion about bilevel non-invasive ventilators, commonly referred to as BiPAP machines and ventilators.

Elon stated he would deliver more intensive ventilators last Thursday.

Also in the news... Tesla engineers announced a prototype ventilator that is designed from many of their car parts. YouTube video below.
One story already has him delivering 1,000 units to a California hospital.

Why do I believe this is merely a publicity stunt?
All the other manufacturers have to go through FDA approval.
Something doesn't add up.

...I recall younger years, with terribly risky driving, and an automatic autonomic reaction on seeing any blue flashing lights behind me. And a sigh of relief when the cruiser passes to snag some other unlucky motorist. These days, in spite of having land vehicles doing 140+ before red lining, I now drive like a church lady, and don't seem to get these feelings. Funny, these changes with the years,--- but it took some time. Old dogs, new tricks. And such fears are common. They start in many ways and places.

Dear blog... I saw a blog yesterday morning with photos of an attractive woman. The blog was locked so members were unable to comment. By the afternoon, the photos were replaced with mudfaced images.

It was the best of times...

My prediction: we will feel the financial effects of the coronavirus by summer.
Factories in China are shut down. They supply parts to the world for automobile manufacturing. Demand is high and there will be shortages for both repairs and new vehicles.

It doesn't stop there.

Let's say that old washing machine of yours needs a new pump and none are to be found. If you cannot salvage one from the junk yard, you could be forced to buy a new washer... that is if your appliance store can get one from their distributor.
