toying with "a letter from abroad.."
I wrote this poem for my nephew's eight year old daughter to encourage her to write poetry. She has an excellent command of English at her age. Writing this made me recall some of the poems I learned at school as a child. I hope I have succeeded, at least to some extent, in capturing the innocence and joyful feeling of childhood. I also hope it would bring out the child in some of you; I would like your comments from such a perspective since this is a children's poem. Or perhaps you can share it with children, get their comments and post them. Thank you!
I often feel that lost kindred souls are never far away.

True story. Kathy was fourteen and experienced. I was eighteen and green. Fortunately, she didn't get pregnant. Her mom came home later and Kathy walked me to the car, then I realized I had left my wallet in the bedroom when I got the condom out. She went back in to get it and after a couple of minutes her mom called out, "What color is it?" I managed to choke out, "Black." Kathy came out with it a moment later. I asked her what she had told her mom and she said that the kids were playing hide and seek with it. lol

Some call it an aphrodisiac. They say it gives a man a strong back. Like a good woman, turtle soup makes no sense; Can something so delicate be so intense? Like a woman, the flesh has several delightful flavors. Remember, each mouthwatering
this poem is dedicated to England, who makes simple words become gems for jewelry!

“If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same” (Extract from Rudyard Kipling's poem “If”) equanimity - a calm state of mind and attitude to life (Collins dictionary)
"Love is a decision, it is a judgement, it is a promise. If love were only a feeling, there would be no basis for the promise to love each other forever. A feeling comes and it may go. How can I judge that it will stay forever, when my act does not involve judgement and decision." - Erich Fromm - (The Art of Loving) "But let there be spaces in your togetherness. And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. And stand together yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow." Kahlil Gibran – (The Prophet)
Since I was a child, I have always admired the effortless gliding of vultures up in the sky. Among other gliding birds listed are albatross, eagle, condor, stork, frigatebird and seagull. It is a truly delightful to watch the marvellous gliding action of these birds way up in the sky as they ride the air currents. This poem is dedicated to them: the genuine avian sailors in the sky. (I have made some adjustments to the original to include some other gliding birds in the body of the piece).
I tried to write this poem in the style of some poems I learned and loved as a child. I have a special fondness for balanced rhyming poems. I think they are easier for children to learn. I believe it is important for children to learn the importance of honesty and I dedicate this poem to them.

Reflections on current state of Covid-19 pandemic.
“Strange, is it not? that of the myriads who Before us pass'd the door of Darkness through, Not one returns to tell us of the Road, Which to discover we must travel too.” (Omar Khayyam – The Rubaiyat, verse 46) Omar Khayyam was a Persian mathematician, astronomer, and poet. He was born on May 18, 1048 and died on December 4, 1131. The verse of his poem quoted was written more than nine centuries ago. The message of his poem still holds today. My poem, “The Other Side”, is in line with the quoted verse from Khayyam's poem and is not meant to disparage the religious beliefs of anyone.
The air we breathe is probably one of the most taken for granted things. It unites all living things. It levels the playing field. Some persons may consider human life to be superior to plant life. Yet, plants play a vital role in sustaining human life by replenishing the oxygen content of the air. They assimilate, into their structure, the carbon from the carbon dioxide human beings exhale and release the oxygen through photosynthesis, thereby replenishing the air's oxygen, which is vital for human existence (iambic pentameter).
