Does Your Boyfriend Take Advantage of You?

Does Your Boyfriend Take Advantage of You

It isn't only the weak who allow their boyfriends to take advantage of them. Every day, independent and strong women fall into the same kind of relationships. If you wonder if you're allowing your boyfriend to take advantage of you and your good nature, ask yourself the following questions:

1. Does he expect you to pay for everything?

What started out as you offering to pay for every other date has suddenly become you paying for every date. Your boyfriend doesn't even pretend to reach for the bill or head to the counter anymore. Instead he stands back and let's you take care of paying for everything. Some men take advantage of the fact that their girlfriend is willing to pay for things. You'll be able to tell a lot from his reaction when you stop paying for things. A man who is intentionally taking advantage will not be happy about this change and won't be afraid to show it. He may become nasty and accuse you of being selfish.

2. Does he only call when he needs something?

He will make it seem like he's simply calling because he misses you. Soon enough you'll be hearing how he doesn't get his pay check for another three days, but he and his friends have been planning a boys' night out forever. Now he needs to borrow money from you. Or he'll claim to want to meet up with you and then you find out he needs a lift somewhere. He doesn't even offer you any money for gas. Maybe he only calls late at night when he wants to be intimate. In this case it's important to ask yourself if you are a girlfriend or a booty call. If your boyfriend seems to need something from you every time he calls you he is taking advantage of you.

3. Does he let you clean up his place?

You don't live together, but he doesn't mind you cleaning up after him. He makes no attempt to stop you from cleaning up his messes. He might even have the nerve to ask you to do his laundry because he simply doesn't have the time. A man who is not taking advantage of you will not let you take care of him in such an inappropriate manner. Cleaning up after him is not your job. Remember that he's a grown man who can take care of himself. If he's too lazy to do so, that is his problem.

4. Does he blow you off to hang with other people?

You and your boyfriend have plans to see a movie, but he gets a call from his brother before you're set to leave. His brother and their friends are going to the pool hall and want him to come along. Instead of asking you if you're okay with the change in plans, he tells you that you'll go another time. People who do this assume that everyone else's schedule revolves around them and that no one else has anything to do. The only way that you can make him see that your life doesn't revolve around him is to go to the movie as planned, even if it's alone. You can also be busy the next time he tries to schedule a date for you so that he knows you're not always free for him. He might think twice about blowing you off.

Dating a man who takes advantage of you because you're nice is never fun. You only end up feeling used because that's exactly what's happening. It happens to all kinds of women, even those who think they'd never get sucked into a relationship like that.
