The UN---enormous waste of money?

The scandals are well known, from food for oil, childhood prostitution via UN soldiers and the UN's gift of Cholera in Haiti. Often, after screw ups, rather than owning up and offering compensation, the UN effectively claims "immunity". Run more like a feudal society than an effective bureaucracy, less than half of the member states qualify as democracies, and decisions/policies often seem to more reflect styles of dictatorships. Many find the jobs and employee compensation quite on the lavish side---I can attest to this from my experiences with these folks in the field. It's said that almost half a trillion dollars have been spent by the UN since its inception. Lots more. Pet peeve of Manhattan residents is how cars with UN/diplomat tags park anywhere---fines errased. But what should replace it, if anything, and where to relocate? Aa.

DEATH.

The great mystery, savior, enlightener, solver of seeming dilemmas, contributer to the biosphere, ultimate recycler, and so much more. But for the few who chose her, she is so often really merely a permanent solution to temporary challenges. Glad simeone convinced me of this way back when. Of course, some have regrets. ;-----)) Aa.

Nervous habits.

Sitting here in a big box eatery, using the free WiFi, as is my tightwad curmudgeon wont. Guy next to me is eating a huge toxic breakfast of about a million over sugared (with high GM fructose) pancakes. Hardly the more diet friendly EU style variety (ca veut dire des Creppes, mes amis). Anyway, this poor chap spends several minutes turning the morbid mess over, numerous times, using the plastic forks, not one, but get this, four, alternating between utensils, right and left hands, ostensibly to distribute the fake maple sirple. ( I tried "em once and asked for honey with only limited success, oh ye healthy bloggerteers.) The hand movements closely resembled the so called "square meal" those of you familiar with some military academies will know. All the better to ward off the anxious fears, and restore temporary equanimity. Far easier with the right agent, when it works. Nuff said.We can all sympathize with the poor slob's dilemma? God bless him. Aa.

Lev 18:22

In some countries, many actually, most indeed by population, it's even illegal. Jail time or worse. Don't walk down the street holding your same gender tomatoes' bottom under Sharia, if you get my drift. Then there's the live and let live take on things, hard for some who were abused as inocent kids by some degenerates. And some in the middle of the spectrum, as in OK with me as long as they don't claim it's somehow normal, and want it in our schools and faces. Where do you sit? interesting. Aa.

Repressive lands.

Just heard a story on radio. Western reporter interviewing some brave former coal miners, who were losing their jobs. Don't know what we are going to do, they said. No government welfare here. Just want my kids to get government jobs, since they can then get rich by corruption. Reporter asks if not afraid to talk like this on camera. No, for every one of the secret police, there are millions of us. But next day, goons show up at reporter's hotel, demanding his cameras, threatening him with expulsion, and on hard search for those miners, whose shit now is probably pretty weak. Aa..

How unclued are regular medical docs (DO's and MD's)?

Sure, they have their place. And they do learn a lot in school and thereafter. Same with NP's. And if they really care, aren't shameless money grubbers, and take time to actually LISTEN to patients, families and their nurses, they have a role in health care. But there is so much about health that they typically overlook, although the younger grads are improving. Diet, lifestyle, socialization, spirituality, and so much more are really where health lies. In many cases, the side effects of many treatments, forget the costs, are worst than the illness itself. And when some non MD's and DO's , like chiropractors, claim that the former only deal with symptoms, they are really speaking as the marginally educated. Thousands of counter examples. But what are your thoughts here? Once an old surgeon during my visit to her, had little good to say about acupuncture, just by way of one example. But she was surprised when I returned after TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine-acupuncture) with my issues gone, while her medicines helped, but only some. Over a century ago, the famous doctor, Sir William Osler, advised his students to simply LISTEN with kind interest to every patient. After a while the correcct diagnosis always comes out of the patient's own mouth. Aa.

Just rather avoid them.....so we say....

Many of us group others by personal/group characteristics. It's pretty strong as a drive in most, if not all of us, and so it probably became ingrained genetically via Darwinian and other types of natural selection (olfactory, s*xual, aural, etc.) during even early prehuman evolution. It probably payed big time to recognize the "other" and take action before the guy down the hall could, no? For instance, Philippinos are perfectly wonderful folks. And their food and martial arts are world class. But while visiting family in paradise, and sitting within earshot of a group speaking Tagalog in anything but the softest tones, I have to leave. Just grates on me, as being neat=r cigarette smokers, or religious evangelists. "We know what God thinks and wants for us". Same with those click languages in south America and the dark continent. Call me honest, but perhaps intolerant. It seems to get worse with the years. Wish it got better. Aa.

Noam Chomsky.

White guilty, self loathing member of the tribe. New evidence tends to discredit much of his linguistic babbling on syntax,---especially the vapid insistence that such complex human actions can be somehow based on one gene locus. JFC. His USA hating politics go downward from there. Aa.

Women in the military....

with MOS of land combat arms. Lets face it, oh ye brilliant bloggers, sure, any wench can fly a fighter jet, sit in the con seat of a modern submarine, and command a missle destroyer. perhaps even drive an M1 Abrams or an Israeli Merkava. But come on, your squad is cut to pieces in an ambush after typically questionable Army Intelligence (an oxymoron, if there ever was one), you and some fat little six stone minority affirmative action hottie are all that's left of the unit, and she must drag your shot up tuchas back to cover, while the Seals get the Marine jets to lay their worst day down on the heads of the rag tops. How truly weak is your shiite, corporal? Same with police on dangerous calls. Aa.

We all know nice, decent Muslims.

But there are some terrorists, and the nice ones should help to suppres these. Plus, the Holy Khoran would be better if a few passages commanding killing infidels woud change. Your thoughtss here? Aa.
