My yearly physical examination...
Yeah, it was time. Different doctor who unlike the others, this one had me in the exam room for nearly a hour. Blood pressure is under control. We discussed my medical history and my parents medical history as well.Currently, I'm taking two low doses of different medicines for hypertension that achieve better results than one medicine in a higher dose. While my hypertension is okay, the side-effect of one medicine is swelling of the legs. Not good for someone who is sitting at a desk 10-12 hours a day.
As predicted, out came the iPhone to see if there was another medicine in the same family that has less side effects. She sent a request to the pharmacy for a new one to try out.
My EKG was normal and some blood work will be scheduled within 3 weeks as I'm going back in 4 weeks for a followup.
The iPhone came out again to do heart attack risk calculations for my cholesterol that was well under the limit, weight, age and lifestyle. The number was 15% and though she didn't consider me at risk, there's a suggestion to start on a program of statins. I declined because medicines that make me sick outweigh their benefits. I wrote down the name of something to research that could work without so many side effects.
We shall see...

It's the ratio of LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) to HDL (High Density Lipoprotein).
The higher the LDL, the worse.
My suggestion is to slowly incorporate a form of aerobic exercise, that you enjoy into your routine,
at least 3 times a week and very gradually increase that exercise over time.
The key is to do a little at first and increase a tiny bit each time.
After a year of that, you will be in much better shape, including your arteries.
It would also be advisable to cut down on; sweets, enriched (rather than whole grain)
bread & pasta, and red meats.
I hope the above helps you. It should, if you do it.
fiorenza, while it would be nice to have days without plans, my savings would soon dwindle and I'd be on the side of the road carrying a sign "I'll design your kitchen for food"
Jim, the purpose for moving near my office was to cut down on those 90 minute drives to work.
We still have some repairs and furniture to assemble, but after that I'll look into the amenities that includes exercise room and pool.
Carson - "What do you do to take care of yourself?"
Burns - "I have two martinis & three cigars a day."
Carson - "What does your doctor say about that?"
Burns - "My doctor's dead."
There are simple solutions
Get your testosterone checked, it's the male hormone equivalent to women's hormones, it throw your whole system out of whack.
Morton makes a really good salt substitute, it's saltier than salt. It's potassium chloride. Read labels for high sodium, processed food are the worse.
I prefer my food without salt. Years ago I was caring for my father in his final years and he had a strict low sodium diet with many of his meals prepared by me.
My wife cooks with soy sauce. We have the low sodium version but I ask her to prepare my food before she adds the soy.
Maybe once a week we go out for restaurant food. Very salty.
I had to stop eating at Olive Garden because of all the salt in the food, especially the potato and spicy sausage soup. The all you can eat soup (and salad) as around 1,400 milligrams of sodium per bowl!
I'm finding it in bread and cookies now.
