Grinder...

Life has it's ups and downs and sometimes (on good days) I feel like the organ grinder where I'm orchestrating things to my tune.
There are days when my workload is too much, especially when I get BS calls like the guy who has water damaged kitchen cabinets and wants to salvage the doors and drawers and only buy new boxes. I told him it's not worth the labor uninstall the old boxes, take out all the old parts and inventory them, install new carcasses and install the old doors and drawers to the new boxes. It's faster at the same price to purchase new.
I'm trying not to be the monkey and getting involved.

He's stopping by the office to show me what the existing doors look like and explain his part in the inventory.

Some days I feel like the grinder... and some days...

So basicly, you don't want to monkey around with fruitless ventures. grin
Jim, you are correct. I sold 2 jobs that are at the 'field measure' stage for a contractor who gives me nearly $300,000 in business yearly, but I would need to take a day or so to order less than $3,000 in problems for the water damaged customer.

very mad
I understand. But perhaps a compromise would make the customer happy and not cause much additional work for the contractor. If he was allowed to retain the doors (but not the drawers) would that be easy to adapt ?
I have to see what he wants and price it. My initial feeling is new cabinets are about the same price as refurbishing and... it takes my people significantly less time to accomplish the installation.

For the same price, I can get you new boots or you can have your smelly boots and all the signs of wear.
Yikes. doh Maybe the doors are sentimental to him. laugh Or perhaps they are unique in some way that he fears something aesthetic will be lost. Who knows? dunno Well, apparently you'll find out when he brings them in to show you.
How much longer until you retire and leave all these annoyances behind you?
Davenita, the guy's kitchen suffered water damage and he's trying to get the insurance adjuster to offer a fair amount of money to replace the whole kitchen but they won't budge. They only want to replace a few cabinets around the sink and along a side where the floor was lower and the water puddled around there.
UnFayzed

My wife asked if I could retire at 70. I groaned and agreed... if possible.
I would need an income and either work a commission salesman to pick and choose my projects or do design work on a part-time basis.
