DRONEon episode 5...

I went for a few months without flying drones. The model I purchased a few years ago, uses GPS guidance with the ability to shoot high quality 4K video. My intent was to study and pass the FAA Part 107 test and be certified to fly drones commercially... as in making money legally doing aerial photography. While it's on my list, other things keep getting in the way!

Three weeks ago, I connected with friends who fly for sport in a huge public park with a section off to one side for us to enjoy model aircraft. I did 10 minutes of flying but for some unknown reason, the video I recorded had a green tint. I suspect there could be some corrosion on the connector to the camera that needs attention.

Checking YouTube to see if anyone else had the same trouble, I came across a video with a drone that uses a ducted fan design instead of the conventional propellers.
While ducted fan technology isn't new to airplanes or drones, the inventor believes his design and shape of the propulsion tubes is unique. Therefore, he has applied for a patent.

His idea came about for safety as drones can be dangerous if they strike someone. The development of large scale quadcopters (drones) used to carry people also shares the same drawback. Some of the prototype designs I've seen all have blades in locations that could be strike someone nearing the airship.

Hey Chet with green tint in recording maybe you don't have a 4k sd card or have you used a newer pc for viewing this image. I had the same issue with 1080p while viewing on wins 7. But when on a different pc it was fine.laugh
Lojac, I'm not sure what to think. The images appear normal now.
I downloaded them directly from the drone!

This photo was taken a few months earlier - it's a view of East Hollywood about 200 feet in altitude.

If you get a green screen when viewing directly from the drone it is usually because the radio signal is not strong enough or too much interference from other sources, if you watch the video from the Micro SD card it should be fine.
If you have a DJI drone, watch out for the controller not charging correctly, this is a known problem that materialises when left for a period of non-use.
riz, I'll check some older videos (that are somewhere stored on a portable drive) as I believe some had some green videos directly on the SD memory.

Thanks for the tip on the batteries, I'll cycle them tonight and go flying tomorrow.
Hi Chat those images are fine @ 200 feet in the air not zoomed or sunny. Check out Matecam's web site but if your buying buy from Amazon. Also check out Drone footage shot with mate cam great clips. I have this cam paid $65.00 from amazon {Matecam X1 4k H1 camera}. This is not my pic.

Live Drone footage with the Mate cam.
This is my first video using the Phantom 4, and the first time I have posted to youtube.
The quality is not as good as the original, due to my poor internet connection here, took 2 hours to upload!!
Next, I need to learn how to edit etc but that will come later lol. Especially how to trim unwanted bits, like the long pause at the beginning
Hi Chat, glad people here are helping you. That video did my heart good seeing such a young man working so diligently on improving the safety of technology.

Maybe you can deliver packages for Amazon with your drone in retirement.
Well I have been visiting The Philippines twice a year every year for the last 10 years, I prefer to take notice of my eyes not what the media reports.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BODY LYING ON THE ROADSIDE SHOT BY THE POLICE or anyone else, however, when I lived in Chicago, it was almost a daily event, so maybe your views are coloured by the type of media you read?
When you retire, 3 ways to make good money with drones are;

#1. High end real estate. Take flyover shots of the area, the roof, the yard, etc.
Sell to realtor.

#2. Flyovers of construction sites, before, during, and after construction.
These can be sold to construction companies for website ads.

#3. Weddings. Flyover of service & reception. Sell to bride or photographer.
