Trump pays $2 million to charities in foundation case, admits misuse of funds

President Trump has paid $2 million to eight charities under a settlement reached for using his now-shuttered foundation for personal gain, officials announced Tuesday.
A judge ordered Trump to pay the money as part of a settlement reached with the New York Attorney General’s Office last month.
Former Attorney General Barbara Underwood brought the case in June 2018 claiming the president and his three oldest children, Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump, allowed the foundation to be used as “little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump’s business and political interests".
The Donald J. Trump Foundation — which was forcibly closed in December 2018 — allegedly abused its tax-exempt status and violated state and federal campaign finance laws, according to the suit.
Trump paid $250,000 to the nonprofits Army Emergency Relief, the Children’s Aid Society, Citymeals-on-Wheels, Give an Hour, Martha’s Table, the United Negro College Fund, the United Way of National Capital Area and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the AG’s Office said.
And Trump had to repay the foundation $11,000 after he used the funds to buy sports paraphernalia and champagne at a charity event, according to the AG’s Office.
The $1.8 million left in the foundation’s coffers was given to the charities on top of the money Trump was ordered to pay them, the AG’s Office said.
As part of the settlement, Trump also had to acknowledge his misuse of the funds, and agree to report any new charities to the AG’s Office. Eric, Ivanka and Donald Jr. all had to undergo training, as they were longtime board members of the foundation, according to the AG’s Office.
“Not only has the Trump Foundation shut down for its misconduct, but the president has been forced to pay $2 million for misusing charitable funds for his own political gain,” AG Letitia James said. “Charities are not a means to an end, which is why these damages speak to the president’s abuse of power and represent a victory for not-for-profits that follow the law.”

What a lowlife scum, stealing charity money to be used for personal & personal business expenses.

Is that something he could put on his resume?
Surely that will make his public opinion numbers jump in the polls!
It's no wonder why the the demonrat party has to try to eliminate their competition unconstitutionally.
They can't ever uphold a whole story or any type of truth. Much like their supporters.
However, that article does mention;
.... in addition to other unlawful activity over more than a decade.
"Scarpulla noted that the $2.8 million raised by the foundation had ultimately been delivered to the veterans’ charities for which the funds were intended. But she ordered Trump to pay $2 million, which would have otherwise gone to the foundation if it were still in existence, as damages in the case.
Notre Dame Law School Professor Lloyd Hitoshi Mayer, a tax-law and election specialist, said that such a large settlement is “highly unusual, especially when the funds at issue ultimately did go to veterans charities.”
OK so President Trumps foundation brings in $2.8 million and that money went to where is was supposed to go and he gets fined $2 million dollars.
Somethings wrong with that picture and it ain't with President Trump.
It doesn't state any where that it was after the extra fine. That's speculation. Odds seem and read higher, that the judge played politics and fined over and above simply because something was brought to court against Trump.
