Planning a vacation...
I'm planning a vacation for sometime in April to see my brother in Dayton, Ohio.If I do the scenic route and go by car, part of me says catch a few winks every 4 or 5 hours and drive through. Maybe when I was single and younger that was a good idea. I'll allow 2 days travel with a hotel the first night. It would be convenient as I can bring lots of clothing, laptop and some model helicopters.
My stay in Dayton would be as short as 4 days because I'm using 4 days travel time.
There is a possibility to do a few stops like dinner in Atlanta or a stop in Nashville to see a museum with something related to music.
With tolls and current gasoline prices, I estimate the trip to be approximately $1,200 to $1,400
There is merit in that thought...
The other option is to go by plane.
Uber to the airport is about the same as parking. I prefer the parking.
Most flights have 1 stop and travel time of 6 hours.
My brother or niece would be the chauffeur during my stay.
I estimate the trip by plane to be around $1,000 and the helicopter(s) would stay at home because of the hassle getting them through security.
It's possible to buy something and have it delivered to my brother's house.
Two more days in Dayton, add $400 for the new helicopter.
The timing isn't great as I'm overseeing 3 new projects and they will all be in that time-frame. Early in May would be a better choice for my work schedule.
Decisions, decisions...

the trip you are doing which is about 1600 kilometres i have done in europe many times and is much more pleasurable than flying ,
in reality the plane is a lot quicker ,but it would still be the best part of a day gone ,if you take into account travelling to the airport ,then the check in which has a time limit plus the flying time ,then check out the other end, that alone on a 6 hour flight works out to close to 10 hours ,,
after 10 hours driving you are virtually half way there ,and stress free ,,,i say go by car and make it a trip to remember ,,,

I'm guessing there would be some rapid-covid tests required before getting on a plane.
My calculation has 1,200 miles one way plus another 200 miles running around.
2,600 miles = 4,460 kilometers
5 or 6 stops along the way for gas, hotel, has me around less people than an airport. I consider that much safer.
My car currently has 9,000 miles so I'm not concerned about issues with transportation.
Crazy drivers...? Yeah, always.
NO MORE... Got it?
It primes the immune system, so that it more rapidly destroys the virus before you get the disease. It is a way to MORE SAFELY and MORE RAPIDLY achieve herd immunity and decrease the spread of the virus.
Sanitizing, hand washing, masks, etc.
I avoid crowds as best as possible. Limited trips for grocery shopping.
My son-in-law had to go to Italy 3 months ago to settle the estate of a family member who passed away. Several hundred dollars were spent on rapid tests including one at the airport. On his return, he had to go through the same process and quarantined in the spare bedroom of this house for 2 weeks.
My brother is currently having dialysis 3 times a week. He was hospitalized in January.
Is it essential to see him?
Visit only.

On this side of the pond people who are vulnerable due to underlying health issues are still shielding.
They get groceries delivered and neighbours help out with milk, or newspapers day to day.
Visiting is not an option.
