Botox....alternative treatments

I've only ever known of Botox being used for cosmetic procedures, so imagine my surprise when my dentist suggested it as an option for 'teeth grinding/jaw-clenching issues.

I've been using a mouth guard thingy off-and-on for the last few years, but it seems as though it's not enough. I'm betwixt and between....do it. don't do it. do it. don't. do. don't. Arghhhh!

I really don't want to put anything that synthetic into my body (especially at this age/stage of life), but.........:(

So you are a bruxom lady Didi and you say that you've been recommended botox injections, hmmm.
I'd say stick with the guard thingy, it can keep your molars separated and you can remove it in the morning. cool
Nah. If you're anything like your pictures here, you don't need botox. You look pretty firm to me.
If insurance paid for it I would do it but not out of my own pocket.
I did some exhaustive research on the subject so now with my Expert CS Dental hat on I can offer you my considered professional advice.
Try it once because it only lasts for about three months before you need a new one. At that time having monitered the side effects you can make an informed decision whether to continue with the injections or go back to the guard.
handshake hug
Thanks Teddy, but this is about my teeth/jawblushing
Sorry for the late response. Today was an out-and-about kinda day, and I got home a short while ago.
Thanks for the advice Merlot. I think that that might indeed be the best way to gothumbs up
Good advice...unfortunately I don't have insurance that covers such a procedure :(
What 's the risk for infection for this injection? Sounds like the jab will be deeper than cosmetic applications. By the way, i have seen botox applied to treat certain conditions caused by multiple sclerosis, my friend had spasticity in a leg, foot, and a chest muscle, i took her to the Cleveland clinic and held her hand during the botox injections in all three areas. I thought I would lose my hand when she squeezed it during the foot injection. wave
Oh my ...more scary stuff. Thanks much galrads. I won't bother with it, especially now that i've more info from CS (and online searches).

Have a great day:)thumbs up

Indeed Di you would laugh

Anyways, which did you opt for... if any?
Continue with my mouth/night guard, use Kalms, maintain dental care, monitor. No Botox! Told my dentist that that's a no-go for me.smile
I would of been tempted to go with the botox ....
used it as an excuse and ran with it ..... maybe roll eyes

Sounds like you done what felt like the right thing for you, long may it continue also wine
