RELIGIOUS HAIR COVERING

The reason, particularly in Islamic beliefs that women should cover their hair, is to prevent men from succumbing to a s*xual desire at the sight of a head of hair. If women believe in this and the possible outcome, then why do they in most cases make their faces look as attractive as possible with make up, including lip stick etc, but still cover their heads? Do they wish to look attractive or not?

Being beautiful and being publicly sexually provocative are not the same thing.
Tecnically, they aren't supposed to show their faces either. No use nit-picking religions; they are always inconsistent. Besides I remeber when Catholic women were supposed to cover their hair in church. Only Italian women still did it when I was young (they'd come over after WWII). Then, too, there was meatless Friday, but fish didn't count, so that was fishstick day for us.
Appearing beautiful is sexually provocative and that is the intention of all women who wear makeup.
Bravo Sierra.. beauty is deeper than sex or lust. Sexiness and sexuality have many sides, you might ask yourself what may have contributed to your feeling less s*xual than you would like..

I would be less attracted to a woman who was not beautiful, but I would give her the opportunity to impress me.
wow
I am in awe of some who think that women do things specifically for men only...hair covering is a man made religious requirement for women as mentioned...wearing makeup and dressing up is something for themselves...
When a salon (reported in the news) was closed down due to some religious reasons...women were upset because that was one place they could go and be themselves without the eyes of man looking at them and being within earshot of their conversations...
Perhaps you need to look at this situation with a different lens...

The only reason women put make up on and pay attention to there attire is to be appreciated by men, unless they are of the LGBT community. You don't honestly believe they do it for themselves? Why would they go to all that trouble unless it was to attract the opposite sex?
wink
I am female and know...lol...I guess you think it's about you... laugh

As I said you cannot assume that it is for men...as they dress up for their own desires and needs...not just men...but if you insist you are right...carry on...wine
Not only in the Islamic religion is hair covering the law, also the Jewish law. But not very logical, as the women shave their ( head) hair, then in public wear a (beautiful) wig scarf/hat and stay bold at home for their husbands. I will never get that one!
That's what I was suggesting.. laugh

How do these women ever attract men if they cover their hair? They have to wear makeup to compensate and get round the law that way. But that is being false to the religion.
You need to be more invested in finding out about the religious dos and don'ts of women, if that is your concern...I am limited in my words regarding any man made religion but from what I understand...women are able to do this (regarding hair and makeup and dress) when men are not in their company...as men are creatures that cannot help themselves...laugh
Wearing modest dress and coverings in places of worship are also part of many religions...not heard about the make up part though...or having hair done underneath the covering...

I think the rule is: as long as the hijab is on, then they've done their part.

The rest is women beng as free as they can withing the limitations.
Me I often find a hijab to make her more attractive and not less.
Especially whe she is hot and her makup is to a tee. heart1
Well, I suppose not having to show their hair is one less thing to bother about and the focus can then be on other means of attraction, hence the concentration on make up and fancy designed head gear. I wonder if wearing a mini skirt would be okay, as long as the hair was covered? That would certainly be eye catching.

I'm glad we agree on something.

Yes, me too. cheers
Daphne... yes, he needs a different lens. Just as those, primarily women, enslaved by ridiculous religious restrictions, this woman was not allowed to be herself. Finding a man is not the answer, she must first find herself..

We freed a slave from a Russian village and took her to the city.

You can see her self confidence increase as she's trying on clothes. She had really opened up by the time they got to doing hair and makeup. She really does look beautiful and elegant after her transformation..

How can wearing a head covering be man made and religious? Which one is it? If the woman accepts the religious belief, then she wears a hair covering and accepts the reason behind it, which is to not be appealing to men. Then she applies make up to make herself as attractive as possible. A contradiction, yes?
What's the point of going to a hair salon and then covering your hair up?
Some women shave their eyebrows off and then paint them back on. What's the point?

If an Islamic person was bald, would she still cover her head? Or wear a wig, and then cover that up?
confused
What if men were attracted to hairy eyebrows. Should they be covered? I always notice attractive eyebrows.
wow
Is it the case that religious middle Eastern men are not capable of looking at a woman's hair without swooning or being overcome with desire. If they can't resist the sight, then they are not practising their faith correctly, and should be punished themselves.
Women should have their right to go to a salon and appear with a fashionable hair style, even to walk round in curlers if they wish.
It is not just the Muslim faith (fundamentalism) that requires women to be modest in appearance...so lets get that out in the open...
Yes, why not let the women decide what they want to do...
If this practice has been going on for ages...far be it to me to tell them how to dress...it is what they are comfortable with...
When women can be free of this burden of being responsible for their appearance concerning men's conduct...then maybe women will not be concerned for their safety...but so far history suggests that many women have been blamed/shamed for the bad behaviour of men...
Yes, but women encourage men by swinging their hair as they walk and wearing clothes that are revealing, and making their eyes look bigger with huge eyelashes. Also it is quite common to see young ladies with skin coloured spray on tights walking round town. It's tough for men to be faced with this type of fashion.
wow
You have control over yourself...so it should not be a problem...
I doubt men want to be perceived as weak minded...
Criminals will use anything to prevent going to prison...like the case in the 80's in New York...it is a good example of how the court system failed a young woman...
A documentary was made about it...Robert Chambers the Preppy Murderer...Here it is if you want to view it...
I have control, but there are some who don't. Which brings us back to the reason for hair covering. The religious leaders don't believe men have control.
tongue
Nor do some men who are looking for an excuse to behave badly and not serve prison time...

Do these religious ladies ever get 'turned on" at the sight of male features? If so, perhaps this type of attraction should be identified and concealed to avoid putting these women in such an uncomfortable position.
conversing
Yeah they cover their hair but at the same time they plaster their face with a shit load of makeup so to look attractive roll eyes laugh
I view it as insulting to men to assume they are animals who will jump any female they meet. Covering the head is as old as time, in many religions. And it goes for women and men in some religions and countries. It is a matter of control by the leaders and religious zealots. I dont understand why the hair or top of ones head is considered offensive to some god. But, then there are many ideas in religions that dont make sense. Most lead back to a small group of people, mostly men, who took control of the masses and said GOD wants it.
The total covering of woman who may not be seen other than by her husband is about possession and control. Like the harems of old. Ownership and fear that she may get away.
Yes. It's all down to male possession. Nothing to do with pleasing the gods. The countries that practice hair coverings etc are those that suppress the people and are male dominated. Why would a god wish someone to hide their hair, or face, or body. Did the gods create people to hide their physical features?
Instead of all the paraphernalia that is required to be worn, wouldn't it be better to attach a tracking device. A constant bleep would reveal the ladies movements.
thumbs up
