I need HELP ! ! !
I've been doing some research, but seem to be no closer to knowing what I need to know. Some of you might have more experience in the field of HEV, or plug-ins. (actually, I'm sure most of you do)
The options are very limited in SA, but I want opinions on what you have experienced, personally or via friends on the different models.... just some basic feed back.
If you are an enthusiast, your input will be appreciated . . .
Thanks

Then later get the el.for all when its fully where it's supposed to be at.
Horse and carriage is best.
ermm .. she says: 'options are very limited in SA' n she sounds disappointed bout it. Definately not Hepatitis
I dunnno i give up.
But seems a brilliant option to moving towards the future with the prices of fuel sky rocketing the way they do
i think HEV stands for Hybrid electric vehicles .... at least that's the first thing that pops in da head
100% el
can buy it for a 100.000$ used in norway
and we are expensive
LMAO
OMG, and I thought I had limited knowledge
Thank you 10K and Silver, Tang,Morg . . .. the rest of you, I shudder to think what advice I would get
Thanks for the laugh
(hoping to get some useful input)
What I have been able to determine is that there are currently only two makes available in SA, namely the Lexus and Toyota. Prius being the most commonly known, which needless to say is obviously out of my price range. However, there are a few other options, such as the Jazz and the Auris, which is also on the market, however I am not sure if ALL these models are hybrids or if it is only specific models.
Perhaps someone could help me on this????
First u gotta determine of u want a cord to come with it that u can put in the wall at home for charging.
you are hilarious
Thankd goodness for CS bloggers
There are several now... offering significant efficiency gains for short trips 'around town' ... on long drives ('highway miles') they don't do too much better than regular small cars. I consider the technology to be rather new so personally I'm not ready to make a change.
I know one couple with a Prius they've had for several years (and well over 100k miles). They still like the car.
One gent I saw over the weekend recently bought a Camry Hybrid and took a trip to visit the kids/grandkids in Illinois. He said they got about 41 mpg average... and my 10-yr old (gasoline) Hyundai would probably average about 35 mpg for the same trip.
I think any car should go about 10 years without significant repairs... personally, I'm not sure if these are "10-year" cars yet.
I'm also certain that others view this quite differently.
If you haven't visited the Consumer Reports web site yet, if might be worth reading a few articles there.
Good luck!
Just so you know, I have a VERY old van and while the hybrid technology might not be impressive with later model cars, the difference compared to mine is quite significant. Since I need to upgrade sometimes sonn, the most logical move for me is to go that route.
from what you say, the people whom you know are happy with their hybrids?
Best option -cheapest- IMO is:
1. small petrol engine
2. Mind your driving -i.e. the higher the acceleration the more inefficient.
3. Remove unnecessary weights and drag-causing devices -roof carriers and such. Also ... if u can drive with closed windows, you increase the slip of your car; hence less drag, thus efficiency increases.
4. Of corse ... walk more. :P
Adding perhaps regenerative braking to that will prove the most efficient feasible solution atm.
Guess shell and exxon fig. this out also.
I think their idea that thay convinced the politicians about in closed rooms is: let's use up the oil first, cos by then the technology will be top notch, henche win-win.
Thing is, we could always use abit oil stored away for a rainy day, so to speak. Nice to have longh term.
What we gonna offer the alians when thay land in 2090 and wanna refule for the trip back home?
Do we have the heart to tell E.T. he can only make a call back home but never ever agian be able to hug his mother and see his brother? Maybe he has a girlfriend back home... no that's just heartbreaking!
one last thing... deflated tyres decrease efficiency too ... that is silicon implants can be helpful too!
Buy a small petrol car like 10k sais.
U will save 100.000R on the stupid meaningless prius (that uses more or the same amount of gas) and for those 100.000 u buy ANOTHER gas friendly car for your daughter!
So she don't have to pollute like teenagers with old volvo 240' do.
I couldn't do the Prius if I tried
Which is why I was looking around for other alternatives.
So far I haven't got much feedback in terms of models which are most feasible.
Besides, my daughter needs to buy her own one
But at least this way I can advise her on getting somethig which will benefit her in the long run. Fuel guzzler JUST DON'T WORK ! ! ! !
Good points (but not as funny as the earlier comments )
10k makes good points about the economics. That's my thought as well. It's nice to have a fancy car with new technology but not if you're facing more expensive repairs.
That's always the challenge with every sort of machine... they all break eventually and the more parts needed to make it go, the more there is that can break.
If the economics (and a chance to short-change the oil industry) works for you, you should do it. (but pay extra close attention to the warrantee)
Some day I will too ... solar panels on the roof charging a car and electric motorbike in the garage... something like that would really make me smile!
but if there are no hills a hybrid car or fully electric car might be ok , at least no one would car jack you ...just remember you are going to get huge power bills charging it up ..
there have been many recalls on some models of toyota's , so check on the faults on the net ...you dont want to be like alot of people who brought a land rover discovery and have it break down and not be able to fix it ..
My challenge is tha twhen i buy a vehicle now it has to be a long term buy, so I've got to consider more than just my immediate concerns But your input is valued, it helps in creating a balance. Gives some food for thought
It would probably look so funny . . . I'll send you a pic if i do it . . . unless you beat me to it
we bore em
Don't worry, I only knew it because I've been researching it the past few days
