RIOTS IN CAIRO AGAIN

A good friend of my son in law Ali , died last night , he was one of five who died by being shot during a protest outside the presidential palace in Cairo , A bright young man , married for only one year , with his wife due to give birth next month.

A good friend of mine, a Syrian Scientist and professor now working in Abu Dhabi , but been in the UK for the pat 30 years ,disappeared for a while when he went to Homs in Syria to deliver the ransom the kidnappers of his brother had demanded.
His brother was not delivered alive , after the ransom was paid , but thankfully his body was delivered whole and not mutilated .
It is known that often under these circumstances the bodies are mutilated of opposing religious or political factions . I am talking about factions within the islamic faith...

How far would you go to fight for a regime ? Do you feel safe in your part of the world ?

Does any of this Middle East crisis affect you at all ? Are you interested in the crisis ? Or do you think it is so far removed from your own life that it does not affect you ?

Do you care ?

Have you ever known anyone killed like this in such a brutal way ?

I think our problems are very small beside the problems of some people in some places in the world.

I often wonder how many people feel gratitude for their blessed lives .

nowere is safe in the world.
Their seems to be an illusive Oppression in the world of late.
You cannot see the fingers but its chocking grip can be felt.
Revolution, social unrest, and civil disobedience are all of its manifestation. I hope it gets no worse before it gets better dunno

Sas my Condolences to the family who are mourning
i feel blessed and not a day goes by that i'm not thankful for everything i have. Life is not without struggle and everybody has a battle to deal with. I think it is best to approach life with a dose of humility and gratitude. wave
yes and be thankfull for what you have
Lgs , it is the loss of my friends that I feel sad about , it is not anyone I personally knew myself . I feel sad because this mania feels close to home now , all of a sudden you realise how just by one or two persons removed you too have a personal link .to this madness ......... This is frightening . Saskia
Saskia,
Years ago, a man name Munir was poisoned in a flight. I did not know him in person, but he become our hero for he has been fighting for an institution that work for missing people (people who were kidnapped during 1998 chaos).

Couple of months ago, a friend of a friend (I did not know him personally but we work in the same circle) burned himself to death because he was desperate working for law enforcement which he felt was useless. This has come as a shock to all of us. Though we were sorry for this is our loss to loose another camerad, we believe his death will also bring other participant to work on what we have been fighting for.

And just days ago, a football player form Paraguay, Diego died in hospital. He's been sick for months, but did not have enough money to pay for his medicine because the club that hire him has not paid his salary for months. He even asked for a ticket home as he wanted to die beside his mom, but the club did not give him his last wish.

They may not seemed to be killed in a brutal way, but the lost is the same. Ignorance, power, money, has taken so many lives. I often feel frustrated seeing all these, but then what I can do is (at least) being grateful for the life I have, no matter what.
Dear Sas , You might be aware of my preference for peace and harmony . I don't just do these things because they seem like the right thing to do or we all should join hands and sing uplifting songs . I'm a veteran of the Viet Nam war and I know first hand what these things are about . You just can't immagine the horrors that one human can inflict on another .

It was amazing to me to find that verry few belive me when I tell of the real version compared to the movie one . I suspect that this desease we call war is a virus that we haven't found a cure for yet . Sadly we may never find one !
And I offer my condolences as well!

Sassy, you asked a very good question. "Do (I) you care?" My dear friend, that goes without saying. I care alot about this and all the wars raging everywhere.

I pray that all people come to the understanding that we are all different and we don't deserve death just because we all think differently. These people that try to force their ideology on others, and I definitely speak religion here, are just simply wrong. Whatever the difference is whether it be religion, politics or what the tarnation ever! We as a human race have to understand that we are all different!

Excellent blog. It really raised my hackles. Keep them coming!
Thats all so true Bsooner ...... we cannot imagine .... I am happy Ali , my son in law ,saw his friend when we were in cairo a few weeks ago , he cannot believe what has happened to him of course.... When the original revolution happened they were both together protesting in Tahrir square . sas
Franki w, metal , ed , thanks for your comments , i agree peace has little chance in this region . Has it ever had a chance I wonder. sas
Parti , nonsmaker , bungers , you all make very relevant points here ...sas
Metaloona , I can imagine your worry .... Cairo's bad enough at the best of times let alone when there is stuff going down... sas
Saskia.
I become sad to read about the accedental you narated in your blog.
Condolence to you and to the decesed family.
GOD GIVE PATIONECE TO YOU AND TO THE EFFECTED FAMILY.
I want a peaceful all over the world and don't like Crices.
Stay Blessed.
I say they turn the entire middle east into green glass and put an end to it wink
People forget that we are all on the same planet, what happens in the middle east will affect us all. Maybe not instantly but over time certainly. Borders are temporary.
Saskia,

Sorry to hear about your son's friend and your friend's family sad flower

It must be horrible situation I can imagine, the only experience I had was in May 1998. There were demos and riots in Jakarta and other towns in Indonesia; malls burned down including one close to my parent's house. Neighbors and my family didn't sleep for a night and we carried on something with us to fight against who I didn't even know dunno

I could only hope that the conflicts in Middle East region would be solved by the involved parties soon.

Thank you for reminding us to be grateful to blessings we have in our lives teddybear
i am sorry
and when ever one hear the die he loos all other feeling and like to share his feeling with other to make him good and dont still sad all time
i wish he feeling good tody and wish good second life for Ali
low intensity conflicts, apparently there things never change, and when they want to change them can only do it that way
So sorry for your loss Saskia! And for the awful things that happen there... It s not too far from Bulgaria, but in any case, it s dangerous for the whole world. We are all connected in a global world...hug
