So another color beckons me

Again while mowing down meadows yesterday my eyes noticed something ripening. The black raspberries were mostly gone by now of course. But plants that bore nothing of interest in mid June now attracted me with a splash of red. Could it be?

Yes, Red Raspberries. I resolved to pick some today, but alas although warm, it rained most of the day. Finally at 7:30PM it stopped raining and with only an hour and half of sunlight left I grabbed my coffee can and went picking.

I beat the deer this time as many plants still have immature berries. However, I could hear the deer walking around me and snorting hust out of sight nearby. Also heard were the clucks of a Tom turkey herding his flock nearby.

Sadly it began to rain again almost as soon as I started picking, so I retreated to the house with what I got.

Spice for my Cheerios. Addendum for my protein shakes.

Psst, don't tell Tomato Girl. She likes these more than she does tomatoes.

That's okay. There is a solid sea of them as far as the eye can see in that jungle.

No way to get them all 'raspberry girl.' Feel free, dig in. Race the deer and the turkey and the fox and the possum and the other birds and critters. I already got more than enough for my cereal this morning. laugh dancing
i've seen lots of them here not too long ago, but passed without trying. I'm not a great expert in berries and decided not to risklaugh
aisha00 - Australia has poison berries that look like raspberries?
Ken...Red or black raspberries...are there also yellow ones? They would be cultivated no doubt and not wild.....any color will do..heart1.love them! My grandparents had a big black raspberry patch in their garden and there is where I first found out about black raspberries! Getting them off the bush was a bit tricky but once I knew about their taste...I was definitely motivated! Enjoy your raspberry harvest...you lucky person!!!thumbs up
Hello Ken,wave My Grandmother had raspberries in her garden, and just loved them. It was amazing what she did with them. Delicious jams , jellies, toppings for ice cream, toppings for her baking,..... And in the colder winter months a jar of her raspberry preserves hit the spot. And Grandmother was always tinkering with making the occasional batch of wine, and I m sure she must of made some raspberry wine. Talk about a multi purpose berry.
Grandmother has been gone now for a number of years, but when ever I see raspberries ,I always think of her and the delicious treats she would make up with them.
Ken,

would love those raspberries on my cheesecakeyay
CH, putting some berries on your cheesecake might be fun. Come on by and we will experiment. laugh

Okay, this may confuse and sorry about that. The plant on the bottom with the red berries. That is NOT red raspberries. Those red berries are immature Black Raspberries.

The plant on top with the lighter green (and more rounded) leaves those IS a Red raspberry plant. With practice you can tell them at a glance as when mature one will have black raspberries and the other one will have red raspberries. laugh
