Visitation Dreams:

It's claimed 2/3 of the widowed have had dreams in which their deceased spouse visits them. (Hence the term roll eyes )

These dreams differ from ordinary dreams in several ways...
They are very realistic - usually devoid of fantastic & absurd qualities.
They are very lucid - having a feeling of reality & immediacy.
They are easily remembered, and remembered for a long period of time...
more like a the memory of an actual event.

This subject came up in another venue, the CS Poetry Corner. (CSers are a talented bunch, are we not. grin )
The poem, "Was It Really You", by Abby1963, can be seen in the "poetry" area.
For those unfamiliar, it is a quite realistic portrayal of the phenomenon.

So...
Have any of you had such an experience?
What do you believe is the origin/cause?
What was your feeling about/response to the dream?
Have you experienced any other similar phenomena?

BTW- This is not exclusive to the widowed...
Others report such visits from parents, grandparents, siblings & such.

And, before you ask...Yes, I'm in that 2/3 group.

Thank you, Abby!
As you know Mic I could write a lot on that subject but it's past my bedtime ..1am here.

Maybe tomorrow. angel
Yep, happens to me all the time, only thing is she's not dead rolling on the floor laughing
If somebody is a strong powerful, ever-present entity for a substantial part of your life, then of course they are going to remain present, and your dreams are when you let your guard down and open to visitations.
Now there's an interesting twist, Z! laugh
Perhaps we should expand the discussion to include the divorced.
How 'bout it?
Anyone have visitation dreams from a still extant ex?
Pleasant? joy
Not so much? devil

What about the oft reported link between twins?

Hi Mic, wave I always thought dreams are part of our conscious or subconscious. I see him in my dreams, mostly when I think of him when I feel lost handling his matters. Or when my oldest daughter gives me mini heart attacks. laugh I don't remember most of my dreams, then I don't remember most of my daily appointments too.doh But I do remember seeing him and somehow see a message in the dream. dunnosigh
This isn't the first time I've experienced these kinds of dreams the one thing is it's always about my husband . It feels so real it's has me doubting myself wondering if it was a dream or did he come to me in spirt form . sometimes I can smell his cologne as if he was here ,on the other hand I've had dreams were I'm begging him not to leave and he turns his back on me. This kind of dream drains me the next day because I feel the pain of being rejected .Ive also had a sweet dream where I wake up smelling him and feeling loved by him .its all new to me dunno confused heart wings
Hey Mic hug Yeah, this is an interesting but also dangerous question as it could touch on religion. I believe the deceased do have contact with us... but we are not well enough developed in the third dimension to 'see' them... Dreams in itself are manifestations of our fears, desires and realities... but one could not exclude the possibility that the deceased are 'present'... It happened to me also... but in a different way... I would smell my grandma and no one close to me would wear her perfume....I also heard my granny saying that I need to drive slower... only to find 30 seconds after that a car accident happening right in front of me.... My feeling... great... as I know granny is looking out for me and most probably will accompany me on my way between life and death...teddybear
Usha, Abby, LFA sad flower...
Yes...While it's happening it's at least as real as anything in the waking hours.
And things can come up...and come out.
Shortly after wife died the dreams involved anger...mine...and quite a bit of it.
Like...What the HELL were you thinking?? very mad
Didn't make much sense...It surely wasn't HER idea.

I've heard something similar from a buddy about his widowed Italian aunt...
It wasn't dreaming...she'd just flat out say it, "The only time that man did me wrong is when he died!"
Quite a compliment, I suppose. In a way.

I've not personally had the smell or other sensory experience, but I know people who've grown up in houses very pleasantly "haunted" by a grandparent.
They're take on it was essentially the same as those mentioned.
Contentment that Gramps was still rocking in his chair, enjoying a cigar, and watching over things. grin

And then there's Capt. Annie Green of the Delta Queen riverboat...
Back in the day, the first/only woman Captain on the river.
Crew & passengers relate stories of her benevolent...and sometimes overtly protective presence on the boat.

I can be a bit wary of stories such as that...might've been encouraged for publicity.
And bookings.
Still...the stories ARE out there.
And if someone's Granddad can keep watch over a house...
a captain watching over her boat isn't really that much of a stretch.

But yes, LFA...there is some involvement with religion...
As to their reality, and if real...their nature of and origin.

I'll never forget the time I was tracing my father's ancestry and one of my sis in laws had sent me a black and white photograph of my father and I.

The night before my father had came to me in a dream dressed the very same way he was in that photo. He also spoke to me and told me to always treat people the way I hoped people would treat me in return. The dream was like my father was actually there talking to me.
Miclee. Shortly after first my grandparents on my dad side died 3 months from each other and then first my dad and 10 years later my mom died, I dreamed about them regularly. Not anymore.
The brain is like a muscle, it will need rest to resupply with nutrients. Dreams are remembered when going into deep sleep or coming out of it. Unlike when you are awake, when you are asleep memories flow randomly. No control, no order, no meaning.

As much as we would like our lives to have some meaning beyond the minuscule part played in evolution, inventing explanations for the unexplained doesn't further our importance. gift
Sorry Mic, I didn´t hear your call?

Well, I haven´t had visits in my dreams, not from deceased people anyway.
My mother has had visits from my father - both in dreams and also when awake.

The visits I have are from my spirit guides, and they have been lucid. angel
By the way, if anyone needs their "lucid" dreams interpreted, I can offer my services free of charge.wave

Do you believe in coincidences Mic?
Or maybe in telepathy ?
Ok..what else would you like to know ? I am up at the moment.
applause
Coincidences...
A somewhat related question.

Perhaps the most significant I've experienced...
Late at night...driving home...as I did pretty much daily...

Once...and only once...got an urge to go around the block, past my Dad's house. No reason. Wasn't going to stop. He'd be asleep anyway.

In the time it took to drive 'round the block, a high speed chase was roaring through the village...led by a nut blasting anything he came across with a shotgun. wow

But for the urge to round the block...

wave~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~angel

@ LFA...That story of your granny telling you to slow down sounds very similar. I didn't hear a voice/sense a presence...just felt an urge to go 'round the block.
Perhaps if I'd ignored that urge, I'd then have heard my (deceased) Mom yelling at me? dunno

cowboy
I've also had some kind of urges like that when suddenly I felt I had to drive on some other road for some reason only to find that a man was sitting on the pavement almost unconscious with blood pouring out of his head.
Nobody was in sight at the time and I had to call the ambulance and do some emergency treatment while waiting.

I had other similar experiences.

There are NO coincidences Mic. Everything happens for a reason.
Perhaps one of the best-documented instances of warning of impending catastrophe involved the Sea Wing Disaster.
You can read the details by searching...

Sea Wing Disaster itinerant preacher Georgas warning.

Adding to the mystery...it has never really been determined where the gray bearded Greek preacher came from...or where he went...immediately after loudly & publicly pronouncing his warnings for 1/2 a week.

That he did so is beyond dispute...
It is acknowledged several would-be victims turned in their tickets prior to the ill-fated excursion which claimed 98 lives.

Would this conflict with assertions that all such phenomena are malevolent/demonic in origin?

cowboy
I have had occasions while awake, when I seemed to feel the presence of someone close I knew was deceased, once or twice I could almost hear their comment about this or that life situation. Sometimes my wife and other past significant others appear in a dream, but they are not the visitations or sense of presence I sometimes have had while awake.
Why should it be manevolent or demonic if he was giving warnings ? confused
Agreed, Min. handshake
It's a question posed to those who CLAIM such incidents are malevolent/demonic.

Also...The Sea Wing Disaster...
A young woman, Mary Leech, joined the excursion. Her landlady had loaned her a silver cup and umbrella for the trip.
Mary was late returning to the boat after a stop, and was upset that she had left the cup and umbrella aboard.
The cup & umbrella were lost. Mary lived to relate her story.
Coincidence?
Had she received an "urge"...which delayed her return to the boat?

Radina Olson reportedly had misgivings about going on the excursion, but did not act on them.
Her body was recovered three days later...on what was to have been her wedding day.

It was obviously not their time yet.scold

I know a few people who had had some kind of warnings in a way of delays or last minute cancellation prior to going on a journey as it wasn't meant to be.
They found out later on that there had been an accident on the road.
More recently...September 11, 2001.
Search -

Lucky and 9-11

More than 350 people cancelled travel plans or were no-shows on the four flights involved...including Robert Redford.
The number utterly defies any explanation involving "coincidence".
"Urges"?
"Luck"?
"If your number's up, it's up. If it's not, it's not."...?
dunno
