Today, March 7, Is My Anniversary!
Have you ever tried to quit smoking? Smoking had a monster grip on me for 20 years! I didn't think I could break the habit! Well, 42 years ago today, I quit smoking "cold turkey". I was in a bar in Cadillac, Michigan with my wife and another couple. I went up to the cigarette machine to buy a pack of smokes but I thought they wanted to much money....45 cents! So I didn't buy any. Went back to my table and talked to my buddy Bruce, who smoked also. We both wanted to quit smoking! So he proposed that we quit and the first one to smoke would have to take the other couple out for a night on the town! I agreed! He started smoking within a week of that night! I never, never smoked another cigarette in my life! My wife and I had a great night out with my buddy, Bruce and his wife at Bruce's expense!Healthwise....greatest decision I have ever made!
Have anyone of you quit smoking "cold turkey"? Or have you tried?
This is a friendly blog for anyone who wants to tell their story!

I have tried to quit many times.
I am glad you have up Smoking congratulations
Maybe you can try it if you have a plan! Here is a website that you can go to to try it out!
I wish you the best!
Congratulations on your resolve never to smoke again...
I have recently stopped smoking....only 9 days smokefree....I'm doing it with the assistance of Nicorette patches which slowly weans you off the nicotine.
Pray for me....
Very good for you. Remember my friend who has lung cancer? Not going to be easy even if a possibility of lung transplant is considered.
Try the 5 day quit smoking plan that I referred to Leony.
I wish you much success and I will pray for you!
When I quit, I did it because of my children (5) and my health! Today, none of my children or grandchildren smoke! Makes me very happy!
Oh yes, plenty of times.
Once I managed for five years without it. A few time I stayed without for about a year. Right now, I'm clean for about six months. I have a love/hate relationship with smoking. I never smoke for long before giving it up. Maybe three month or so. I normally start smoking again when I'm bored. I need to keep busy.
I had a guy who didn't smoke show me some medical pictures of a pair of lungs. One lung dark brown or black from smoking looked like a well done bbq steak. The other was white and clean from not smoking. That really helped me make up my mind!
Sometimes a picture is worth a "thousand words".
congratulations again.
On the other hand, my ex-wife had her lungs x-rayed about a year ago. Her lungs, the doctor said, looked like coffee bags. He would not believe that she never smoked in her life.
Those who have never smoked do not know the extent of power that smoking has over the smoker. It literally amazes me that it is legal for the tobacco companies to even have the ability to sell such a drug to the general public.
Congrats with your quitting. About 5 years ago, I managed to quit for 2 years, but one stressful event in my life and one cigarette changed that status real quick. Kinda nice it happen because I learned from that situation. Now, I am a little over 2 weeks in with no cigarette and for no reason will I touch another cigarette.
It was extremely tough to get to this point and have endure a lot of challenges. Thankfully things seem to be getting easier now. I will never have another cigarette for any reason. Trust me when I say, I am taking mental notes of the difficulty each of these early days were for me. Down the road when I want to just have a casual smoke, these memories will be ready to prevent me from even thinking about it.
Good luck to those of you in the process of quitting...and congratulation to those who managed to quit.
A couple of tips I learned and they work:
If you drink coffee and smoke at the same time, quit the coffee and go take a walk and breathe deeply!
Spicy food can and will bring on the urge to smoke!
I hope this helps everyone who smokes!
Nice You
