come together, right now ... let's buy a place?

The link below leads you to an article on villages for sale in Spain. Yup, whole villages, and while few of us (any?) could afford one on our own, CS, this is our chance to turn our global on-line village into the real deal for returning to a simpler, happier life, or even just time-share holidays rolling on the floor laughing We could squabble in PERSON! yay

For those who don't follow links, $230K (negotiable) will buy us 100 acres, 6 houses, 2 farms and even a stand-alone bread-making kitchen ... a nice little starter village, plenty of room to expand.

okay that's Northwest Spain, not many of our resident bloggers in that area (actually probably none) and even the article doesn't rave about the weather. Still knocks holes in Scottish weather, mind.

But it isn't the only village, probably just the cheapest. There are hundreds - even thousands - in lush fertile areas left abandoned as rural Spaniards move to the cities. We could be onto something amazing here.

In the first comment I will put the description of the village in question. Oh boy.

So that's today's Sunday dream. daydream

i would love to own a bread making place. i love bread more than cookies or cake.
unfortunately, i don't speak spanish.
Free, neither do I. But first step, we buy the village. Second, we buy the area. Third, we introduce our own language, laws ... laugh

Never realized I was a frustrated empire-builder before rolling on the floor laughing
i can think of a blogger here who would want to be Chief of Police
rose Eleg thumbs up
rose Very Nice I want to by One rose
rose Tell me more rose
Happy Sunday bouquet
Yes yes count me in. I want to own the art gallery please
Biff I hope you do end up buying something in Spain, there are some really nice towns on sale. There is a propierty I like on the Canary Islands, 4 houses, great views to the valley and not far from the beach. Amazing price

fantasies are good!
Yuniksha, yes, art gallery! You will make us a centre for culture and the arts, cooooooooooool yay
I have 33 Hectares in Aragon to sell if anyone is interested.
Timotie, I don't know very much more rolling on the floor laughing But my imagination is leaping and bounding and ROARING ahead wow
Morning Ish, which Canary island, and is it in my price range? under 10K euros? wow

Actually it's the village thing that appealed, more than just buying a single place. Must be the Scot in me coming out, INDEPENDENCE and shaping a community our way rolling on the floor laughing
Yubba, wow - but what do you have on there? Ideally a few houses, a little pub, a village green? rolling on the floor laughing

I suppose we could bring our own. There are amazing 'kit' houses on the market, and some caravans and campers are more luxurious than a house anyway. Post pics grin
Take a look at a site which sells some village propierties, you can see it in any language. I'm sure you will find the Canary Island one.

You might like the medieval castles, I saw one on sale in a great touristic area for like 250k.
Z, I need an army first. Organizing CS is like herding cats rolling on the floor laughing

And I prefer to rule from behind the throne grin
Ish, only 250K? I might have to give up smoking to cover the mortgage moping

Now listen, we need you on board for this. Fact-finding missions into the countryside, because I'll tell you what we want, what we really really want, is a nice little village in your part of the world. Imagine having a whole bunch of CS members as neighbours? daydream
Don't scare me Biff, having certain CS members living in Spain doesn't excite me,.
haha Ish conversing
It won't happen if you don't want it to. When you have your best seller you could buy one of those luxury villages and invite me.
That sounds like a great idea! A small community living...wow

I´ve always fancied moving up north where it´s a bit cooler. smitten

Of course, it will have to be all energy saving, with solar panels, windmills etc. - remember my blog about the electricity blackout?
We need to be preparing for that and building our own self sufficient community.

As for CS members joining us? Well... we need to be selective for that... not only the ones who can afford it, but also who can bring something useful and be productive.

I see you´ve already got me signed up for Spanish lessons? How nice of you comfort

Don´t forget that I´ll also want to rescue a few horses and we could offer some lessons and equinotherapy---my dream!smitten
Daniela, are you suggesting that a member can't pay for a home and not retire? they must be a cog in the wheel?
A whole village confused we'll need loads of materials, 1000 litres of white paint, spray guns, a drawbridge for the moat, half a dozen cannons..........
I guess Z is in charge of fortifications rolling on the floor laughing but back off with the white paint, mister, that's Forth Road bridge stuff, making work for ourselves. Natural stone is the way to go, no maintenance - well, unless you're taking on the repainting every year laugh
Free, Daniela, I'm seeing an idyllic community with enough to do to keep us occupied and engaged, not so much that we start to hate the load of daily chores ... la dolce vita, I don't know the Spanish for that!

Horses, oh yes. And I really do want to get into the whole alpaca thing. My cousin breeds them and is becoming something of an authority on them, and they are just gorgeous. Plus alpaca milk is the best milk I have ever tasted. yay
Ish, that best-seller could be as much of a dream as the never-never village moping
I'm in Biff....got no skills to bring to the village....but i make anice quiche....grin .....
a drama department is a must. we can have plays in the park
cal quiches did I here someone likes breading making.
Now who will spread muckgrin scold roll eyes for planting veggies. We need a goat, a sheep scold ONE oh you can see my mind running riot.peace peace peace
Cal, nope, quiche ain't gonna cut it. Unless you and Free set up the bakery as a small very laidback business so a couple of days a week the rest of us don't have to cook, we can buy something delicious from you guys to eat.

One concern - real men don't eat quiche, they say. Colour me fussy, but I'm rather hoping the village will be heavy on men. Sun-bronzed, striding round the place ...

I need a date. rolling on the floor laughing
Free, you and Yuniksha need to talk. We're putting the culture of the place in your hands. Art, drama - we're on our way -
i'll do the costumes! it's VERY important to measure the inseam of the men's pants professor
Biff....i might manage aday aweek, in the bakery...grin ....just want to sit out, with my sangria...watching all those sun kissed men......smitten ....
Free - rolling on the floor laughing thumbs up
Cal, that sounds pretty good ...

Sangria. We need a volunteer for sourcing sangria. Show of hands?
alpacas mmm very good idea, trees for shade and hugging when no men around.
I am sure me and Daniela could do some vegiescheering cheering

doh should I have said Daneila and I grin would not make hash----indoh of gardenpeace peace

Believe me I would love it. banana banana banana
Are we talking 'free love' here as well.....laugh .....
No Spanish village would be complete without the old boy, normally with walking stick, sitting on a chair in the village square watching the world, or women, ok mainly women, go by, I'll volunteer for that professor
And Red, as we would want visitors only by invitation, not stumbling into the little paradise taking shape here, I thought of you when I saw this sign to put up on that track. Shades of Nessie, eh?

Just while Z is sorting out the fortifications ...

Joke, people. We WANT to attract visitors to the art gallery and the plays - handy income.
Cal no no no from me, had my fill of that in my last communedoh

Just joking i am not into free anything, but everyone is free to do as the want. But help
Cal, I for one don't charge roll eyes rolling on the floor laughing

I think as a village of singles, preferably heavy on men, we should be okay. This is a dream, remember. Dream away!
