Sold my van . . . farewell adventure. :(
Blog buddies may remember last August I packed up my whole life, bought a 2003 converted Citroen Relay, and drove from Scotland to Spain with a dog, a cat, and a lot of boxes and suitcases. Like it says in my profile, I’m a loon. And a dreamer. And now live in Spain.Never been interested in camping, never driven a van before, it was a means to an end and I never expected to enjoy the adventure, but I did, oh so much.
When it came to the time when I either had to convert the van to Spanish plates (not cheap) or sell it, I was in real denial about the whole thing, I kept wishing by some miracle I could get just a few months more with it even if I couldn’t keep it for ever and ever and ever, permanent adventure just the turn of a key away.
I even convinced myself Paddy the potential buyer would decide against making a 5 hour drive across Spain to see an old campervan, but he got here and turned out to be a loon too, a kindred spirit (albeit young and dreadlocked) and, like me, a former Saffer. In fact his real name is Bafana - and he arrived with two other guys to check the van, a team, that almost makes them Bafana Bafana.
I think the van is happy about it too. I was fiercely resisting selling, so two days ago it started making little noises to scare me. I don’t like noises under the bonnet. The all-knowing Zman said they weren’t expensive noises but that a 2003 van will start becoming expensive. When Bafana Bafana test-drove it, no little noises. The van chose them, and new adventures, and I must respect that.
But . . .
Will add a pic of it via the ridiculously complicated process in a moment. Then get a moody cup of coffee and feel miserable for a while, then get on with adventure-free life.

I am sure you don't know how to make Spanish plates out of a van. now at least someone else will have an adventure with it.
How’s Arty and MiMi gonna get around when we come and stay with you?
A never before seen pic of you and your van!
Lucky van, going on to adventure while I'm still stuck here but in fact I got a timely message reminding me I could hardly wait to move into the house, have a loo! of my own! and a shower! right there! so I'm not quite as depressed about it as I was
And Molly couldn’t do anything either coz she was having your dog?
By the way, how are both the pets adapting to the new lifestyle ?
It's on its way ...
Best time to visit south of Spain March or April, yes?
The many years you were there, is this year’s winter the worst? If I don’t like the heat, when is the best time to visit then? 17’C-22’C would be ideal
Thanks, biff, I enjoy a day in the life type blogs.
But you know how well that van looked after me, it was downright protective! Even down to starting those little noises to say 'let go, set me free again'
Thanks, Zman
It’d be nice to be able to visit again, just not very thrilled with the heat, that’s all coz I can get that here the whole year round!
You have ac at your place?
All will be good.
Hi Z
Mimi! Go in winter if you really want to avoid the heat. This has been a bad winter. But I have been out in a tshirt in December there.
I will get it for your visit. PROMISE.
One day at a time, one foot in front of the other
Something for the record books, that
(Speedo? really?)
I know, I'm pathetic
It would be very difficult now.
that is nearly as good as peter piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
No regrets. If I can still be saying that with my last breath, I will be content.
If you would like some summer acclimatization I can offer a course, mid to high 40's normal up here.
PS No one is getting kicked out due to brexit, false news, old wives tales or whatever
Apr/May sound alright, just before the summer holiday starts. Don’t like too crowded a place either
Now, to entice Art to come out of retirement.....hmmm...
That area never gets really really busy, not like the Costa del Sol.
I never go there in July/August. It is both the busiest and the hottest.
Art will do whatever you want him to do
MiMi you look ultra chic in that Hat in the photo.
Mimi I know you aren't talking about this April / May because you already have your plans made - right? Let me know if this April / May!!!!
GG - the animals are both surprisingly relaxed about the change in their lives, they adjusted to living in a van in about 3 days, took to life in a Spanish town instantly, and apart from huge sighs of relief when my furniture caught up and their favourite beds reappeared, both act as if life hasn't changed in any way whatsoever except that I no longer provide central heating. They think that's a bit selfish of me.
I'm not planning on leaving, but I'll only be staying until the winds change. That could be in months or never they don't change very often, I spent 17 years in the UK
