My car is under manufacturers warranty and I'm entitled to some free oil changes. I booked an appointment about a week in advance and they confirmed by email.
The email also contained an advertisement.
The next day, I received another confirmation of the appointment and like the first, it contained an advertisement. The third day... you guessed it. Another reminder of the appointment along with an advertisement. Okay... Enough.

I clicked the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email and 2 more days of emails and advertisements. Obviously they are unaware I clicked the link to unsubscribe.

We're past the oil change. While I was there, I looked at one the the new models for 2022. It's not what I expected, nor am I inclined to pay $6,000 over sticker price, give a deposit and wait 4 to 6 weeks for a car to arrive. However a few emails came through from the dealer... sales rep and one from the sales manager. That unsubscribe button is getting lots of use so I actually replied formally requesting they stop sending me emails.

Sheesh!

Years ago I blogged about patenting a device that when pointed at a vehicle and pressing a button it would send a burst of energy knocking out the computer control of the vehicle.

My state of mind at the time was to fry the control making the car (truck, etc.) useless and the person would have buy a new computer chip.

Computer chips are very expensive and in most cases very difficult to replace when basically, all I want to achieve is a simple 'don't cut me off' approach... maybe a more sophisticated jamming device would be suited for this purpose.

When would I use it?
Lots of places. Tailgaters for example. No matter how fast you drive, which lane you use, there are some people who will actually change lanes to follow you and stay 2 car lengths at 70 miles per hour.

One click and Zaaaappp... the computer in their car resets causing the motor to shut off! Good bye tailgater...

I should be in the way to the patent attorney's office, instead I'm heading to work.

(NOTE: For those who don't understand humor in a blog... creating, owning or using such a device would probably be in trouble with the law)

I'm surprised to see the clarity of highway cameras. In the video below a car loses control entering a highway and slams into a box truck heading for an overpass. The truck hits the rail that retains the vehicle from going over the edge but the bursts into flames (like a Hollywood movie) billowing black smoke until (about 8 minutes later) the emergency fire truck arrives to cool things down.

in addition to my abstinence from alcohol, i'm going to try to abstain from blogs i don't agree with. this is more of a challenge but i look to certain members for guidance and inspiration. this doesn't mean i won't engage on my own blogs, but i think in the future, i will again look to certain members for their guidance and inspiration and delete the unsavory. you know who you are.

Earlier this year, gas prices fluctuated a bit and were around $3.40 a gallon.
A week ago, they shot up 40 cents. By Friday they were $4.00, then $4.20 on Sunday.
Tuesday marked $4.50 and today, the place I normally buy from dropped to $4.18

I'm doing much less driving than I've done in past years so I'm not feeling the pain that others would experience with long commutes and lots of sales calls.

Running an errand to get new wiper blades and a cabin filter, the guy at the auto parts store remarked about me having an economy car. the computer shows I'm averaging 32 miles per gallon. The trip back from my daughters late at night with little traffic registers 41 miles per gallon.

I just hang in... it's all I can do.

The TPMS is a Tire Pressure Monitoring System that is standard equipment for all new cars. It's part of the tire valve stem located inside the rim where you add air to the tires. The sensors are linked to the car's computer and a warning light on the dashboard will come on to alert the driver when the tire pressure falls below a predetermined value. For my car, it's about 28 pounds of pressure when the sensor activates the low pressure warning.

I typically have my tires filled to 32 pounds of pressure.
We've had some cold weather this month with morning temperatures in the high 50's. Tires normally filled when the weather is in the 80's will have much lower pressure at 60 degrees Fahrenheit and the warning light comes on.

After 15-20 minutes of driving, the tires have warmed up and the pressure is back into range. The warning light goes off.

This weekend, I'll add some air to each tire enough to keep the warning light from coming on, but not so much that it's above specification when the outside temperature is back to the 80's
