Grumble grumble

A floor installer is coming in a couple of hours to lay a floor in my entrance room which I also call my office. Although for the first time I do not need an office any more. I surprise myself looking back that I've required an in home office for the last 50 years. I am not sure why.

The room getting the floor today is a room the previous owner added on to the house. It is the coolest or warmest room depending on time of year. The only awful thing about the room is the floor. Someone poured a concrete floor then made it look like Terrazzo but it stained and looked like dirty concrete. Odd the rest of the house has either wood or tile floors which are beautiful but not in the entrance/office room. The entrance way is the first impression too.

I got most of the furniture out of the room with the exception of the huge beautiful HEAVY desk (which I no longer need either) I wish I sold it before I moved it and went with a much smaller lightweight one but I'm an idjit. Also the stationary bike is super heavy but it does have wheels. The installer can deal with that.

My last task and I'm dreading it is I have to take the desktop computer apart with the dual monitors - I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THAT WITH a gazillion wires. I've always had an IT department or was married to an IT guy. I don't know WTF to do so I'm trying to label everything (both ends of the wires) color code and take a ton of pictures as well. I'll be without a computer for a couple of days unless I want to dig out my laptop that I stored a few years ago- I'm sort of afraid it won't work. My Router is in the room with the needed floor so that is the only thing I'm supposed to leave.

For usually being a disgustingly happy person in the early morning, I'm quite frazzled but actually now that I dumped on you I think I may feel better but I don't feel courageous. heart wings

Serves me right for thinking I can take on any challenge. Guess I'll just adjust my attitude with some latitude and get the job done. Wish me luck folks - I have a whole lot of stuff I can screw up ahead of me.

Enough with the "likes"

We need the ability to turn off "likes" and be able to send an automated message to anyone who
attempts to send a like to us. Something like.....

How about composing a short written response that indicates your interest and explains WHY you
think we are a good match ?

Or perhaps you'd like a different automated message to be sent out to people who send you a "like". dunno

Another great change, would be a multi-question quiz about your profile, that they have to get correct, before they can send ANY contact effort to you. That would weed out a lot of the scammers, who blast out the same message hundreds of times. boxing

I was offered to apply for a job abroad.

Specifically in Ireland. I said no, purely because I have my sights set on my truck driving education in august, and because jobs like the one I was offered to apply for, is one of those call center jobs, that aren't really secure. The staff turnover in that job field is huge, because if people fail to go 110%, or if they fail to live up to their expectations, they are booted out. It happened to me in Portugal. I had accepted a job from a company called Staples, in their Lisbon office. Let me explain the entire process from hire to when they let me go.

On the phone, I was told the start date was two months away. All I had to do was send the flight info, and they would arrange pickup at the airport, an apartment in Lisbon and help with all other stuff. However, before I had the chance to book the flight, they called me again and said that the start date was one week away, and not two months. Alarm bells began to ring in my head, but I decided to go ahead and book the flight out, one week away. The day before I was due to depart, I had severe second thoughts, and I was VERY close to call it off, but my sister's ex-boyfriend's friend convinced me to give it a shot. So I did.

I wish I hadn't.

When I got to Lisbon, I had a wander around the airport, looking for my pickup driver, expecting the person to be there when I arrived. No luck. I even went to the place the email said to be at. I waited for about 15 minutes, still nothing. I decided to give it about 30 minutes, and if the pickup hadn't arrived by then, I would buy a ticket for the next flight back to Copenhagen, and abandon the job. 30 minutes passed, still nothing, so I headed over to the nearest airline, and asked when the next flight to Copenhagen departed. "Today is Tuesday, and the next flight to Copenhagen is on Friday".

Bummer.. I am not about to wait three days for a flight home, so I decided to head back to the meeting point. That's where I met a Belgian guy, who was also a new hire at the company. Ten minutes later, a French girl joined the huddle. About 30 minutes later, a full hour and 15 minutes delayed, the pickup finally arrived. "I'm sorry for being late, but I wasn't informed of your arrival until 15 minutes ago. Let's head to the car and get you to your apartment". Second alarm bell rang, but I decided to roll with it anyway. In hindsight, not the best thing to do.

We arrived at the apartment, which was excellent. Maybe they had redeemed themselves, with that. We got situated, picked out bedrooms and had a wander in the city. Lisbon is a beautiful place, for sure, with a lot of great food. The following day, we were picked up and driven to the HQ. We all worked for different clients, so we had to go to different offices. I was told, that I had to head to the waterfront, and there would be an office building, where I was going to work. I asked for the address, which they provided. When I got there, it wasn't the right building. I spent a whole day looking for this stupid office building, and when I finally found it, I had 30 minutes left before I was off. I did find it, which was a relief.

The training, which I was going to be receiving, was all over the place. I was promised an intense training period of three weeks, but the training was three days only, because they needed agents on the phones. I was assigned my own workstation and thrust into the job, after three days worth of training, that was mediocre, at best. I was not trained in procedures, which led me to give incorrect information to clients. When I asked for more training time, they replied that there were no time for that. After the three weeks, the manager told me that I had been unsuccessful, and that I was let go, even though I specifically told them, I wasn't ready to be put on the phones. Long story short: I should have gone with my gut, and called it off before I left.

The reason why I declined the Ireland job application, was 100% my bad experience in Portugal.

Job hunting, cleaning, helping people and sleeping in.

So today's Sunday. If you live a life according to the Bible, Sundays are for sleeping in, right? "Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made."

I interpret that as allowing myself to sleep in on the seventh day of the week, which is Sunday. So I did. Well, until the alarm system here howled because SOMEONE had forgotten to turn off night mode. I want to make it clear, that it wasn't me. It was my roommate's girlfriend, who opened the door to the balcony, in order to smoke a cigarette. I stayed in bed for about an hour after that, just relaxing. However, I haven't just been relaxing today. I went on a job hunt, again. I spend more and more time looking for a job, which I can keep for about 4 months, until my education begins. So far, I have found five I have applied for. We'll see what'll happen with those applications.

Next on the menu, was a bit of cleaning. I busted out the wet wipes, and got to work. Now, I know what you might ask: "Philipsen, why do you have wet wipes in your room? Are you doing something you are not supposed to do?" No, dear reader. I keep them in case my fingers get greas... Wait.. Let me rephrase that.. I keep them in case I need to remover spillag.. Wait, no.. That came out wrong.. Let me try again.. I keep them here in order to remove dust and other things from surfaces. Yes, that.

Once I had finished cleaning, I sat down in my chair, and booted up American Truck Simulator, just to play for an hour or two. I was almost finished with my first drop, when..

My mother called me to ask if I could assist her with some tech stuff. She wanted to open a link, but she had a hard time figuring out how to do it, so she asked me if I could come by and help her out. "Sure, I'll be over soon". Luckily it wasn't super complicated, and I solved the issue within two seconds, literally. My mother isn't good with computers, and my brother is a lost cause as well. He knows some stuff, but he's not someone I would trust with buying a new computer by himself. Anyway, successful help achieved, so I went home. Before I could head home, though, I had to buy some food and snacks for next week. I picked out a Black Angus ribeye steak, that I will fry up tomorrow or Tuesday, depending on what I am in the mood for. I did get some frozen kebab as well, so I could make that tomorrow, and then the steak Tuesday. I have potatoes in the fridge, so all I need is some sauce. I am thinking bearnaise. Oh boy, that steak is gonna be legendary. I also need something to craft into a salad of some sort. I might just go for the classic stuff: Lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes. Someday I will look into salad recipes.

Tomorrow is another holiday, which means shops are closed. Then tomorrow will definitely be kebab. I like it, and it's filling, so why not

Loadshedding

Hello to you all !
Here it is loadshedding going on now..
Who is not familiar with this "loadshedding" thing , want to clear for them , it's actually temporary power cut..
Feel a bit frustrating though..
Specially when it's a thunderstorm outside and you can not open the doors or windows because of the huge amount of flying dust , and inside the house the temperature and humidity level going high (humidity almost 98%) .. Just hoping that after the storm temperature may fall a little bit..
Oh !!!! The power is back...
A bit of relief... Let's put the phone on charger then yawn

Trucking abroad? Could be fun!

I came across a YouTube video where a Danish trucker told about the time he went to Canada for a year to get work experience as a truck driver. That got me thinking: If the program is still there, once I finish my full trucker education, maybe I could inquire about doing that? Of course, it's still years away, so they might not have that program by then. But, what if they have? Trucking for a year in Canada? I wouldn't say no.

The guy in the video had nothing but good things to say about the experience. He also said, that every school, that educates truck drivers, sometimes have posters up, with advertisements for the program. If my school has that, I will definitely inquire about it. The video provided a link where people could read more about it - so I did. Unfortunately, the program has been put on hold because they are having a hard time getting work- and residence permits, no doubt because of the pandemic.

Hopefully they will have sorted it out when I am finished, because I would love to do that! Imagine a YEAR in Canada, driving a truck on the highways, with some awesome scenery.

The video, I am talking about, can be seen here. It's in Danish, but it's subtitled

I am going towards an exciting future, for sure!

Possible moving day soon? Maybe!

I have found THE perfect room for me, which isn't that much more expensive than the one I currently occupy. It is bigger, though, so more room to navigate.

I need to write to the landlord, but in order to do that, I have to have a paying subscription to the website where the room is being offered. However, there is an issue.. The payment will not go through. It just sits as pending, by my bank. I do have enough money on my account, so it's not because of that. I have written their customer service to hear what I have to do, but they can't see that I have paid. Maybe I will have to give it some time? Maybe 24 hours, or so.

When the payment goes through, I am going to write to the landlord straight away, and inquire about the room, since it's just perfect for me. It's in a more rural part of the city, which is perfect for me. The nearest supermarket is only 25 minutes away on foot, however, which I don't really mind.

Now, as a note here: It is not FINAL! I am NOT saying I am moving with 100% certainty. It's just in the very early stages. When that's all said, I am hopefully moving. It would be nice for my mental well being!

Daylight saving time is here - and you know what that means!

Spring! Spring is here! Although it doesn't feel like it at all. Right now, it's 11.35 pm, which means bedtime is creeping up on me, even though it is a Saturday. Under normal circumstances, I would be watching a movie, spend time with friends or just relax, however these aren't normal circumstances. We are living in a pandemic, and we are pretty much bored all the time. Anyway..

Tomorrow is one of those typical Danish spring days, with rain and cold temperatures. I really don't like the cold. It kind of makes me drowsy and tired. I prefer heat and a weak wind. Give me that, and I will be set.

My dad taught me a very neat trick, regarding daylight saving time. "In March, we put the garden furniture out, signalling we are turning the clocks forward, and in October, we put the garden furniture back inside, signalling that we are turning the clocks back. Remember that". Mind you, he said that in the nineties, when technology weren't as advanced as it is today. Back then, all clocks in my home had to be manually changed, but now we have smartphones, computers and digital clocks, that sets themselves. It wouldn't surprise me if humans some time in the future had a heads up display in their eyes, telling them the time of day, the temperature, played the news and showed if our bodies needed medical attention or not. Kind of like the T-800 from The Terminator, but without being a robot. Human evolution has come far, so it would not surprise me if some supervillain developed such a thing for ominous gain.

Anyway, now it's time for me to go to bed. It's been a long day with planning, reading up on stuff and so on. Tomorrow I will apply for a few jobs and maybe watch a movie, if I can be bothered. Sundays are a bit boring for me, but Formula One is on, so maybe I'll watch that. Or maybe I will take a walk, provided it doesn't rain, which the weather report says it will.. I'll figure something out.
