Jeepers, I too quit over 20 years ago. I had tried to quit three times and drifted back later. The last time was a charm because I was no longer "trying", I had decided I did not want to smoke any more. Big difference. Withing 6 months I could actually light a Cig for my wife and not even care for a drag. I would simply hand it to her.
I have an appointment on Wednesday with a stop smoking counselor and am going for the drugs regime - so in about three weeks I truly hope to be able to come in here and say that Ive done it - now, wheres that nail biting emoticon
hollandgirl: Emphysema. Just been told yesterday that I now have emphysema. I quit smoking in 84 and my doctor told me it takes 35 years to not have long problems of some kind.
Quit smoking I smoked for 20 years. Stopt cold turkey. If you make up your mind to quit, it makes it easier.
I personally know how right you are. I am surprise and sad that you have contracted Emphysema after all those years. It may be that there were other contributing factors that prompted the disease. For example, my Father never smoked in his life and died of Emphysema. that was many years ago and there are many more treatments now. I certainly wish you well and hope recovery is possible for you.

Good Going Amigo,,,,,
Thanks for the support. I feel now I have done as you...made my mind up to quit, that simple. I knew "the timing is now" when I did it. ( quote from a good friend of mine btw. ) I made up my mind, put them in the garbage, and that was it. done.

Good for you. For me, a big help was me to have a goal each day. That goal was to be able to mark one more day on the calendar each night. One more day for not smoking. Remember, when you think you need a cigarette, it's a lie. You don't need it at all.
