There is a good argument being advocated for legalising drugs so that there use can be controlled. That is not to say that people en mass agree with drug use but the fact is that they will be used whether they are legal or not.
Wife beating is common through out the world, until some miracle happens that stops the practise isn't it better that it be regulated so that if it is done it's done in a humane way.
I bet many muslim men would be as horrified at the idea of beating up their wife's as many western men.
I don't know what the situation is with those muslims who do beat their wife's but maybe they obey the regulations and administer what they call "a light beating" whereas as we know men in the "civilised" west beat the crap out of them.
Which is best?

I believe in equality and condemn cruelty of any kind regardless of the religion. And I did not say that a Jewish wife beater will or can get away with it...no one should get away with it. The law should be clear on that.
Even in an Islamic country..if a woman is beaten on her face or shows any bruising, thats illegal and she can go to court.
And just so that you know...since we are talking about beatings...The following is happening in Australia (not an Islamic country):

That is very sad to see this type of barbaric behavior in 21 centuries. But I believe the least we can do is to talk about it, and give awareness. And let's not forget about prayer, for I am not an atheist and I so much believe in power of prayer. People who commit heinous crimes use whatever excuse is handy.Sometimes it is religion and sometimes they will blame culture,video games,music or that mommy didn't hug them enough when they were little.

@maryrachelle yet, when a crime is committed by a Moslem, the media will say that its because Islam encourages it..but if it was committed by any person from any other religious background..then religion is not even mentioned.
We have seen this time and time again.
How many criminals and gang members who have no value for human life, are seen wearing huge crosses or have GOD tattooed on their bodies and they commit crimes...yet you dont see such a huge emphasis on their religious backgrounds.
