I saw a bit of that programme. Never seen it before. Food on the continent is delicious, although all that oil would make me wince a bit even healthy oil.

I am watching the programme after that one, about Ludlow. It seems a lovely place.

The food abroad is delicious alright but they do love that olive oil a little too much. Everything swims in it. Its off putting for us, so true.

Just been to the Tax office for the second day running. Had to fill in the company tax return online and since it's all in Greek went yesterday for some advice. Went back today thinking I'd got it sorted but it won't accept my version because apparently it should've all been typed in capitals, which they didn't mention yesterday. very mad Have just completed for the third time so fingers crossed it's ok now! Morning Wow....didnt see the programme about Ludlow, I turned over and watched a new drama series set in Ireland called Single Handed. Its a RTE/ITV joint venture I think and its a wee bit slow but for some reason I cant stop watching it...probably because the Gard, or whatever the Police are called over there, is a hunk lol!

Crystal29: RANT OF THE DAY:

Did you know that animal charities receive almost double in donations than childrens charities...???? Why for gods sake?

Hi Crystal... wave

I think you have to put things into context here. Our government and our society does more for children than any charity on its own could ever do.

My point here is that animals do not receive anything like that and totally rely on charity giving to function and provide the superb care and assistance that they do, not forgetting all those that help freely.. peace

Also, its hard to quantify charity directly to children, for I am sure that many local charities concentrate on the community as a whole rather than children specifically, though children will be the main focus of it.

If you think about it, the best known charity, imo, is Children In Need, probably followed by Comic Relief, though I'm not so sure where an animal charity would come, probably the WWF is the best known.

As to why animal charities receive such a large amount, Sail touched, on it, (glad you arrived back safely by the way), and that many leave vast amounts in their will. There are various reasons why people do this and it is their choice at the end of the day. And this is the reason why it is easier to differentiate animal charity giving from children, as it is very difficult to give leave your estate to animals.

However, you will find most families will leave the majority of their estate to children and family, though a small percentage will go to charity. Also, bare in mind that a lot of grandparents leave trust funds for children, grandchildren and so on.

So, its not a case of children do not receive more, (in fact its probably the complete opposite), just that we give it more directly to those within our family... The main thing is as long as the government gets no proceeds from people's estate, my taxes are enough!! mumbling grin

Also, think you should have come through to Auld Reekie this week, that way you could have fooled us all and told us you were at the Royal Wedding wow Or were you just picking your lovely frock last week? hmmm bouquet cool

Hi Yash, wave

Well Yash I'm taking the government out of the equation because Im sure the taxpayers dont have an issue with children being taken care of properly in our country and anyway I'm not sure the statistics are just UK stats. The fact that animal charities receive not 10% or 20% more but 100% more in donations shocked me....I had no idea that for ever 100 people who donate to a childrens charity, 200 donate to an animal one. Maybe I'm being naive but I cant understand how anyone in this troubled 21st century could stand by and watch children starving on their news bulletins, children dying of diseases because they have no clean drinking water, child victims of war, babies and children who are orphans of parents who are dying/died of aids, etc etc...and they pick up the phone and donate their money to animal charities. Okay it is their money and of course it is their right to do so......but I think its awful and its my right to say so!...laugh Oh and I also heard Oprah Winfrey has said she is leaving millions to her pets....whatever! confused
Auld Reekie?...crikey I was glad to get back to my hometown...I couldnt be doing with all those tourists, swarming with them so it was!!!...laugh
